I’m surprised that Mr Pelosi isn’t properly armed and trained given the situation. He could have retreated to a bedroom and waited for the police.

Given that the attacker was able to wrestle the hammer out of Pelosi’s hands perhaps it’s best guns weren’t part of this, because I doubt the man would have fared as well if his attacker had wrestled a gun out of his hands and shot him with it.

This one is strange so far, an 82 year old is attacked by a hammer and is expected to make a full recovery. Seems that it would be very easy to attack an 82 year with a hammer and cause major damage no matter where you hit them.

You can be beaten within an inch of your life, require dozens of stitches, and spend the night in the ER, and still be “expected to make a full recovery.” Unless dead, or crippled. Assuming you get out with nothing but scars, bruises and stitches- you have made a full recovery.

The point of a gun is that you can use it at a distance(hopefully) before the assailant can get close enough to take it. An impact weapon requires getting within grabbing distance.

We don’t know what the circumstances were here. We don’t know if Mr. Pelosi attempted to retreat, what his options might have been, or what.

A source with knowledge of the situation gave a similar account to CNN. John Miller, the outlet’s chief law enforcement and intelligence analyst, said Paul Pelosi secretly called 911 somehow and left the line open. He said when dispatcher Grimes answered no one responded to her, but she could hear a background conversation and sensed something was off. She turned the volume up to listen in.

“Paul Pelosi is basically trying to tell her in code what’s going on: ‘Why are you here? What are you going to do to me?’ I mean you can imagine how he’s trying to not let the attacker know 911 is listening,” Miller said.

You can’t miss at short range. And short range in this instance is defined as a foot longer than your assailants arm.

Politicians are high profile people who naturally attract nutjobs. Nancy Pelosi is protected when acting in her official capacity. Her husband is not. He has the wealth and privilege that allows him the training needed for a person in his position.

The armchair quarterbacking starts with someone smashing his way into the house. Not something easily missed.
