Nancy Pelosi's Husband Violently Attacked at Home [28 Oct 2022]

Was walking thru the upper east side of Manhattan last week. Bars on first floor windows were pretty standard.

Yes, those are undesirable units

I did have to get bars on the windows when i lived in Manhattan and had a little kid. It was legally required. It sucked.

So the hammer belonged to the intruder. He also brought a second one. He planned on ziptying the husband and breaking Nancy’s kneecaps when she returned, among other things.

Even more so. There’s no traffic driving by to see a break in.

Yes, I agree they should have up-armored their house. It’s not hard and for them a non-expense. When I built my detached garage I made my own windows. And in 30 years they’ve seen 3 attempted breaches. One of them was with a bowling ball. It just bounced off.

Paul Pelosi is lucky the police got there when they did. From the information provided it almost sounds like he didn’t hear the break in at all.

There is much about this we may not know due to security concerns, like did they have some sort of alarm system that for some reason wasn’t used? You would think that because of Nancy’s position and their age that some sort of rudimentary security system would have been installed like at least ADT, Life Alert or a yappy dog. Many people get these and then don’t use them all of the time.

I see what you are saying. To clarify, I meant “mental” as related to cognitive deficits, not psychological trauma.

mmm

More than a little. I’m embarrassed at myself.

I’m thinking that the “skull fracture” was actually of his facial bones, and did not affect the braincase, which is still a big deal.

They said skull fracture in the news so it could have been a glancing blow.

Considering he was rendered unconscious on the floor, I’m guessing not a glancing blow.

People are routinely killed by falling and hitting their head on a hard surface. I would expect a direct hammer blow to be fatal.

No reason both the face and braincase can’t be affected. We really don’t know where the blow actually landed.

You might expect it, but it’s not always so. A lot depends on where the hit occurred and the exact damage caused. A direct blow might cause very localized damage, a “glancing” one more widespread. People have survived having their brains violated by nails, bullets, and in one very famous case a railroad tamping iron. What part of the brain damaged makes a difference, and in fact people have survived losing quite large chunks of their brain. Also, see Gaby Giffords for another survivor of severe trauma to her brain.

I do not expect we’ll ever know the exact injury and extent of it because that’s private medical information and the Pelosis have no reason to release it. As Mr. Pelosi is not a public speaker we are unlikely to ever know if he has long-term deficits as a result of this attack or not.

All we know is that Paul Pelosi had to undergo surgery for the injury and as of this writing he is still recovering in the ICU. Which is actually not at all surprising for any head injury. It could have been anything from surgery to treat bleeding under the skull and pressure on the brain to the hammer actually penetrating brain tissue. We don’t know.

Sad and relevant Atlantic article:

…In terms of actual damage, January 6 was far worse than one violent crime in San Francisco. Republican leaders… But a parade of Republicans somehow think that an unhinged, hammer-wielding intruder putting an old man in the ICU is funny.

We might expect such inanity from pathetic attention hounds such as Donald Trump Jr. and the usual conservative troll-pundits. …

But that didn’t stop people in both right-wing politics and media from laughing it up over the Pelosi attack…

One might think that it would be easy for America, as one nation, to condemn an attempt to kidnap the woman second in line to the presidency that resulted in the beating of her husband with a hammer. As Ernest Hemingway would say: Pretty to think so. Instead, we have seen the dark heart of the Republican Party, with a reaction so callous, so flippantly sadistic, so hateful, that it all feels irredeemable.

“New low”? “Irredeemable”? I fear we ain’t seen nuttin’ yet.

Good current description of events at the Pelosi house - in summary, a constellation of conditions and missed chances to stop things before and during the attack…

Threats against Pelosi are unique

While other members of Congress may face episodic threats, Pelosi is the subject of the most violent death threats against any lawmaker, and their volume is both high and continuous, a law enforcement official said.

Police attribute the scale of the threats to her being demonized by Republicans, being a woman and being second in line to the presidency. She has a protective detail of two to three diplomatic security agents of the Capitol Police wherever she travels, including inside the Capitol, as well as a police officer who is a driver, the official said.

and…

Pelosi’s house is also protected by a private security system, two people said. When tripped, that alarm is supposed to notify San Francisco police and, secondarily, the Capitol Police, one of them added.

On Friday, the Capitol Police never received an alert from the home security company, that person added. It was unclear if the system was armed at the time of the break-in.

Officials with the San Francisco Police Department repeatedly declined to comment on whether there was an alarm system at the house and if the department received an alert about the break-in besides the 911 call.

I use a one inch thick carbon fiber fighting cane as a mobility aid. The one time I had to use it for defense, I wound up like a baseball player and landed a mighty blow on the asshole’s head. If he hadn’t turned his head slightly, I probably would have split his skull open. As it was, I cracked his skull and gave him a concussion, plus my cane slid down the side of his head to impact on his collar bone which broke under the impact. I have since learned that skulls are amazingly fragile and tough at the same time and angle of the impact often makes a bigger difference than strength of impact.

Note to self: always ring @JaneDoe42 ’s doorbell and wait a few feet away from the door until she invites me in.

I can’t here to post the same article. It seems the Pelosis have lots of security, but they thought the that was to get, and a lot of it followed her when she left the house. There still seem to be questions as to why the remaining security wasn’t alerted by the break in.

Also, there’s security camera footage showing the intruder breaking into the house with his hammer.

Something folks don’t think about is that if one is using a cane for support while walking, they are supporting their weight with their cane arm every other step. We often have pretty good upper body strength.

I shared that story to kinda share how directed head blows can be deflected by a minor sort of thing. While I wanted to stop him dead in the heat of the moment, I’m really glad I didn’t have to learn how it felt to kill someone. But, I am not batshit crazy which I think probably makes a difference.

Uh-oh, an illegal! I guess that makes the attack ultimately Biden’s fault even though the suspect isn’t Hispanic/Latino.

BUILD THE WALL! BUILD THE WALL!

Ya know, I think Canada might actually pay for it, just to keep the crazy out!
