Last Dopefest I went to, the reservations were under the name of Mr. Cecil Adams. That was fun.
I’ve been to many Dopefests, dating back at least to 2001, and the reservations are always made in the name of “Cecil Adams.” It’s a Doper tradition!
It’s strange, the confluence of events in Nashville for me. After I made plans to come to this Dopefest, I somehow found myself with a foster cat that I’ll need to deliver to my friend in Franklin this weekend.
And over the weekend I was on the phone with my friends in Austin, and they casually mentioned they’ll be in Nashville this weekend. So I’ll be seeing them as well.
I didn’t know that, so I made the reservation under “The Straight Dope.” I intend to call them tomorrow with the final numbers. At the time, I will see if the will let me change it to “Cecil Adams.” I will post by Friday with an update.
I’ll have to take a rain check on this one. When come back, bring pictures.
It is actually not entirely impossible that I will be there.

Is it hard to get a room at the last minute in Nashville on a Saturday?
I will be the guy who looks like Santa Claus doing his Jerry Garcia impression.
Or, I might still be somewhere in the Great Smokies, lost and hungry. And fighting bears, and running from Rangers. Or vice versa.
I might not smell all that great, either.

As I said, I get out at six and may have to spend a few minutes closing the place up. Then I’ll hustle directly to Blackstones. Yeee haahhh
Trisk, it shouldn’t be a problem getting a motel room. The big tourist draw events are over with for the year. And I doubt you’ll be the only one a bit “fragrant.” The temps are supposed to be 100F+ this weekend and with the kind of humidity we have here, all it takes is a short walk from the door to the car to have you covered with sweat.
To second this – my husband may be coming straight from drill, which would have him in uniform. A uniform that he had spent all day sweating in. You probably won’t be the only stinky one there, I will just sit upwind from you.

Better move my count back to one: my wife may or may not come, but it’s looking like NO enough that I should correct the count.
Nah, it is less stressful for us to give up some seats than it is to try to get more. I would rather keep the count inflated by a few. I put us down for 26.

I had minor surgery today. I had liposuction last year, and today I had a revision surgery in my abdominal area.
I’m just telling y’all this because I’ll be a little lumpy and swollen tomorrow, and will be wearing a compression garment that will make my belly area look a little peculiar. I don’t want to seem vain, but I didn’t want y’all to think I always look like this either.
Well, Obviously, I am no going to make it. Car trouble on the way. I will miss you guys.
