Nashville Dopefest 18 Aug 2007

I just love you guys! Such a bunch of funny and adorable souls. Next time we’ll meet at my place. Cubmisstress will give you my business card. (wink)

Nominated for funniest line of the night:

“What would Thelma and Louise do?” – Missred (a kindred spirit!)

Nominated for cutest buns: Zeldar

I want to thank rainwalker78, as well. I had a wonderful time! There just wasn’t enough time to tlak to everyone.

fiver - That was bloated? You looked great!

Tuckerfan - Always a pleasure.

Brynda, Cub Mistress and Missred - We should get together for a chick flick.

Zoe - It was great talking to you. Your next rip should be Ireland - it’s a wonderful place!

StG

Great fun! I must admit I was a bit surprised when I began putting faces to names (someone really needs to bring a camera next time).

Fiver, I gotta admit you were a lot more subdued than I expected.

Zoe, you were a bit less “hippy” (in the 60s sense) than I expected, but the peace symbol earrings were something that I could have imagined you wearing.

drewbert, you could have stayed! I, or someone else, would have been happy to give you a ride home.

StGermain, Lehman’s Catalog. You’ll probably want to start making your redecorating plans now.

Hope we do it again soon.

I agree…this was a fun evening. It was great putting faces with the names.
StGermain, find a time with Cub Mistress and Brynda and we’ll do a movie (maybe even a drive in…).
Zoe, I wanna be you when I grow up!
Fiver, we all should have bloat that bad!
Rainwalker, thanks for making the arrangements…perhaps I will see you around town.
Drewbert, as Tuckerfan said, one of us would have given you a lift home.
Zeldar, you have a voice made for radio!
Tuckerfan, maybe I will see you around H’ville or G’town.
Great evening, y’all!

Ha! That’s why you don’t see many hipsters anymore. We grew old and our party clothes wore out and we got jobs. Geez, I might as well vote for Fred Thompson! It could happen…

You looked very much as I had imagined so it was easy to relax around you.

I wish that I had had a chance to talk more with your friends. Good folks! That was the best behaved baby I’ve ever seen!

Yeah, Fiver, when somebody worries about being swollen from lipo, I want to see a problem! Puffy lymph nodes or something!

St. Germaine, I think that I have about a 50-50 chance of making Ireland my next stop. If their economy keeps improving, I may not be able to afford it! I wish I could have talked with you more too. The night wasn’t long enough!

Many thanks to all.

This was great fun and it was good to get to know most of you better. I wish we had had longer to get together with each other since I missed chats with several of you. The acoustics made it hard for me to hear much more than what was close by, so unless I was near you I didn’t get much of what was said. Maybe next time (and I hope there is one before too long) we can arrange quieter surroundings so we don’t have to yell to hear each other.

Many thanks to Tuckerfan and rainwalker78 for taking the arrangements and organization details and running with them. The food was great and the location was ideal. And except for the seating arrangements and acoustics I couldn’t have asked for a better meeting place. Outside would be an improvement for the sake of acoustics, but not in the weather we’ve been having, so I move that we plan our next Dopefest for fall or spring conditions.

I do hope we can continue our interactions either in this thread or in another we set up for that purpose. It’s great to have so many clever and interesting Dopers in this area. I want to get better acquainted with all of you.

Now how did you know that!? There was a time in my distant past when I did work in radio. We’re talking 60’s, but still. Anyway, that’s nice of you to say.

Hah! Only Dopers would go home from a dinner and hop online to talk to the people they were just with!

I also had a great time. And so did my wife (I was a little worried cuz she isn’t on the board). We do need to to this again. At the very least, we could have an annual fest. If we want to be more ambitious, we could do it twice a year, or even seasonally.

We missed you guys that couldn’t make it. Tris - I hope your car gets better!

cosmosdan, there are so many dangling segments of the many topics we got into that I’m sure I can’t remember what else to try to look up online for the sake of closure, but here are a few I do remember:

  1. that music shop near Camden is Woodsound Studio in Glen Cove

  2. Halifax, Nova Scotia is the only listed filming location for Jesse Stone: Sea Change (2007) (TV) but Camden has been the site for these movies

  3. The Tennessee State Penitentiary was indeed the location for at least these movies including some scenes in The Green Mile

  4. the town further up the Maine coast that I couldn’t remember is Belfast and the town near the NH border is Bethel (not Berlin, which is in NH near the Maine border)

  5. Stonington was the place I couldn’t remember out on Deer Isle and Cushing is where the Olson House is located down south of Rockland.

  6. Isn’t Norumbega Inn the castle-looking place in Camden? It was Hodding Carter’s at one time.

  7. Atlantica Restaurant on Bayview Landing is where that jazz band was playing an open-air gig

What else was there? What all didn’t we talk about?

I had a great time! I didn’t quite get around to talk to everybody, and for that I am sorry, but it was really fun. Great people and great times!

the chick flick is on, ladies!

If you’d seen what I’d seen in the shower that morning, you’d have understood my apprehension. But yeah, it wasn’t nearly as bad as I’d expected.

I’d had a long day. Next time I’ll drive up the day before the Dopefest. I’m sorry I didn’t get to talk with you much.

Everybody, I had a great time! Thank you all so much for making me feel welcome.

Awwww, I am so sorry I didn’t get to make it. Next time…I am glad that the rest of you had fun – it sounds like a blast was had by all.

Pssst! The whole secret is…Don’t grow up!

This thread seems to me to be a logical place to start planning for the next Dopefest in this section of the country whenever and wherever that happens to be. Based on the responses to the thread I started 08-04-2006, 08:02 AM called Southern USA Dopers: Stand and be counted, please (which drew 201 responses in total), these were the Tennesseeans accounted for at that time (in the order they were added to the Notepad file I kept for summary’s sake):

==============================

If you compare the post counts from that era with recent ones, perhaps you can see who has been “active” and who hasn’t, but that’s less an issue than updating this list for potential attendees at the next get-together.

We might ought to include those Dopers who are within 100 miles or so of Nashville (or wherever we decide to hold the next one) and that ought to include southern Kentucky and northern Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi at the very least. The fact that Fiver made the trip from Atlanta and that others from as far away as the Smokies and Knoxville had planned to make it to this last one suggest we could move that driving range out even further.

This is just a starter for further discussion and planning, but I, for one, amd excited about the next time!

Welcome to VandyLaw!

Advice for the newbie: Go to Hillsboro Village on 21st Ave. and eat at Pancake Pantry. You may have to stand in line outside. That’s part of the tradition. You aren’t really into the spirit of Nashville until you’ve eaten there.

I can’t believe I missed this! The moral of the story is, I either need to spend more time in MPSIMS more often or I need to do vanity searches more often.

I hope it’s not too long before the next one! I’ll try to pay more attention.

Believe it or not, it was precisely for that purpose that I posted that list of Tennessee Dopers. Vanity searches.

Now that you found the thread, do you have some suggestions for where and when we might shoot for another Dopefest in this area?

Not Blackstone.
Acoustics were terrible.
I couldn’t hear a word anybody said.

I’ll agree there, Bosda, and I was the first one to mention the place. It was a struggle to hear anyone more than a seat away. (Oddly enough I recommended Blackstone above Bosco’s because it had better acoustics, if you can believe it. I think it was mainly the room they had us in.)
