Made it through another day. Dogs are walked, beer is poured, dinner is simmering(Bachelor Food with shrimp and Old Bay:D).
FCM, go with the Froot Loops, it’s rugrat kibble.
Hope things get better for you, Pie.

**doggio **- I went with a sammich and some corn on the cob.
Yep, they’re all home. SIL has left for work - yoiks! The rest of us are taking turns getting showered. Dunno about the rest of them, but I’ll be sleeping like the dead. After I shower. I probably steenk…
Sheesh! I am having problems with my cable modem connection; the earliest someone could come out is Tuesday morning. So … I am currently on dial-up, on my former internet provider, which I kept as a backup. whew. So slow, but at least I can get online before Tuesday. ::knocks on wood three times::
So just in case anyone wonders where I am … I’m here, just much slower.
Urk. Spent all day doing homework. Damned unnecessarily complicated problems are the mathematical equivalent of flying from NYC to L.A. via Reykjavik, Iceland. Tomorrow shall be spent on homework and housework, cuz I didn’t get everything done today.
Tarragon - My sympathies on the dial-up. I live on the Series of Tubes and I’d die at 56kbps. And yes, I was at the Furry con - the next MMP is going to be all about my misadventures there so stay tuned!
FCM - What is French Toast Casserole? I love French Toast, so this recipe intrigues me. Also, thanks for making the six or seven hours I spent on Thermodynamics homework today look like a totally unproductive waste of time - I think you accomplished more in the last 24 hours than I have in the last 24 days!
Doggio - Besides Shrimp and Old Bay, what is this “Bachelor Food” you speak of?
**
Swampy** - “Yahd”? Are you from Boston now? Oh, and I can empathize with your drive-dreading driver - I really hate being on the road outside of my familiar “comfort zone” so I always have Google Maps directions and/or a GPS with me. GPS thingies have gotten really good at providing route-guidance, too - I strongly recommend picking one up for the nervous one!
**Rebo - Just be glad the problem was your remote and not the car itself. If you think $169 for the remote is bad, wait til you need to replace the car’s main computer. Between only paying for the lesser of two evils and getting two of the three auto-related expenses covered by warranty, I’d say you actually did pretty well overall!

Anyrose - No, I stayed at the Doubletree. The convention has arrangements with the Doubletree and Westin to set aside large blocks of both hotels for congoer reservations, in order to make booking as easy as possible for all concerned and to keep all the creepy people in one place so we scare the smallest possible number of reg’lar folks. Basically, there are a ton of rooms in those two hotels which, during the convention, only Anthrocon guests can reserve, or something like that. Whatever the details may be, the result is that when you call to make reservations you get asked if you want to stay in the section of the hotel with all the other attendees, so it’s real easy for us to find accommodations.
Why do you ask? Do you work at the Omni or something?
Man, I’m hungry… licks lips and begins slowly advancing on the crablike, Old-Bay-seasoned Pie
3:10 AM, ugh. Time for me to grab a snack and hit the sack, preferably in that order. Next week’s MMP is already written and I’ll probably post it late Sunday night, around 11PM EST, or early Monday morning, between 12:00AM and 3:00AM EST.
Later, all!
I don’t know if having a fairly consistent internal clock is good or bad, but I was up before 6 as usual. Critters are tended to, stuff is on the counter thawing, and mostly, the household is quiet.
**Moonie **- here’s the French Toast Casserolerecipe. The original used apples and raisins, but I prefer it with peaches. It’ll go in the oven in another hour and a half. I’m also going to cook up a ring of Polish Sausage to go with it. Breakfast will be yum!
**tarra **- ugh! When we visit the inlaws, all they have is dialup. Pure tedium!! Hard to believe that’s the way we all did it at one time…
Plans for the day? **FCD **wants to go sailing. I need to run by WalMart for some critter chow and something else that I don’t recall at the moment. SIL works tonight, so he won’t be here for supper. I’ve got a chickie thawing for its date with the rotisserie later.
Frankly, I just want to do nothing today, but I don’t think that’ll be an option.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’! Also brekkied cause I made brekkies for Ol’ y’all know who who shortly shall be hittin’ the road. I am waaaaaaaaaaaay to good to him!
Moonie my use of yahd comes from a friend from Boston. We were workin’ on what we called Southern Boston and came up with “pak the cah in the yahd y’all!”
Herbs what can I say. I cook good, so we eat good.
Ok, out of here cause I gotta go say goodbye.
Later Y’all!
I’m up too early this morning. Neither hubby or I slept very well last night, and we even went to bed early. He was up from 2:30 til now - so when he came back to bed I got up and fed the dogs.
Grocery shopping and the rest of the laundry today. Envy my exciting life.
Good morning all; I’m up and caffeinating and yes, it’s early for Sunday but I’ve got grocery shopping on my agenda too, Rebo, and like to get it done as early as possible. The church folk are too much in the Safeway on Sundays!
Well, my daughter and I were able to “fix” the cable modem by unplugging it and then plugging it back in. So I’m back on cable, but I was on dial-up for a bit last night and omg, it was slow. I am fortunate that the back-up was available.
Moonie, I am so looking forward to your tales from the Furry con! chuckles I doubt that I’d ever go myself but I like to hear about it. Does that make me … warped?
Of course you cook good, Swampy!
Good thoughts being sent to those who need them. Enjoy your Sunday all.
Wow! Everybody’s up early today.
I am much less crabby today, thanks. So Moonie, back off!
Not sure what this day holds yet. Probably pancakes and sausage for breakfast first of all.
Sunday blurfs, y’all.
Bambilance tale with bonus brag a comin’ Monday.
Up and off to work.
Moonie, Bachelor Food is my quick and easy meal. It is also astonishing similar to Puggy’s home made dog food recipe.
No, but that’s where I was most of that week - with the geeks (aka Mensans). I’m sure you and your friends have heard this, or worse, but some of the Ms were glad your con was in the same city, saying “We’re not the freaks for once”. Personally, I’m a live and let live sort of gal.
Do you know the woman who was “detained”?
We had our usual pancakes for breakfast and then a nap. Now I’m up and need to get working on a Weight Watchers menu (for someone else).
I’m home and deheatenated. Wonder how long that’ll last.
We sang Amazing Grace this morning. I can’t even remember the last time I sung that hymn in church except at a funeral.
CutiePie how appropriate and really strange to work on a weight watcher’s menu after a brekkie of pancakes and sausage!
Ok, need some N.O.L. and a nappy poo.
Later Y’all!
Ah! Heh, cool, but really - does anyone think Mensa are freaks? I thought smart people were cool these days! Related tangent: I’ve never tried to get into Mensa only because I would rather continue believing I am intelligent enough to do so without risking finding out that I’m not.
As for the woman “detained”, I was not present but I have heard stories about it. Alcohol and substances of suspect legality leading to life-threatening seizures, plus a belligerent boyfriend who wouldn’t cooperate with police and tried to punch a security guy.
I just made a reduced sugar neener puddin’ for the neighbors, since this is food fairy weekend. They will get a cheap sliced ham, maters, onions, watermelon, ear corn, cole slaw, brownies, and the neener puddin’.
So why is it a neener puddin’? VWife says, “I’m taking a nap, so you’re making the banana pudding. Neener neener neener.”
Time for a nappy poo of my own. When I get up I gotta go to the dump; the bears are circlin’.
Glad the crabbiness has subsided, Pie.
Heh. I like the sound of the crab on the driver’s license, snowbunny. By the way, how’s MamaT, these days. Seems like a long time since she last checked in.
Muppet and LiLi: gift certificate question for you. My cousin lives in Vancouver and I need to get him and his wife something as a wedding present. I was thinking that a gift certificate that they could use in Vancouver would be good (they’re getting married in Mexico and we really don’t want them to have to schlep yet another thing back to BC). Suggestions? They’re going to be in graduate student housing, if that helps, and may only be in Canada for the next couple years. They’re not as impoverished as the average grad student because both have had good jobs before going back to school, but also not rolling in the dough because he’s been helping out with lots of medical expenses back home.
Home from down south. Was able to catch the nephew’s appearance in a softball game despite a brief downpour. They kept playing as if nothing was going on. They lost big-time, so it only went 4 innings (if a team is ahead by 10 runs, the game ends after the fourth inning). But I saw him hit a really long fly that just missed being a homer. And, as an extra bonus, got to stay overnight so that I could go watch my niece be an acolyte. (I’m an honorary Whiskypalian today.)
Now I need to get approximately one million things done, possibly including finding a dress to wear to my cousin’s wedding. I leave next Saturday and will have a super-busy week at work Monday-Thursday, so today and Friday are pretty much it.
Arghhhhhh.
Back later, hopefully with accomplishments to list.
Hugs to all…
GT
Well, I supposed it depends what other, if any, conventions are concurrent - for example, Mensans, WorldCon (SF fans), and State Association of Psychologists all in the same hotel. We were mostly in jeans and t-shirts, the SF fans in assorted costumes, and the psychologists were the ones following the two groups around, scribbling notes, and muttering about book deals.
As for the detainee, I’d heard it was because she, um, “used” in public the object she carried around with her (namely a litter box). Were there more than one detainee?
Hai everybody. It’s been a lovely weekend at Chez Muppet so far. We rode our bikes to the farmer’s market and got there just ahead of a huge thunderboomer, which cleared up just in time for us to head home. 'Twas lovely.
After we unpacked our goodies, we went to meet up with friends near the lake to take in some heavy thumping bass beats, because there’s really nothing better on a warm summer afternoon. Bruce McDonald was there filming a movie during the Broken Social Scene concert… he literally walked past me so close I could have reached out and touched him (yeah, I know, it’s dorky… but he’s a Canadian icon and directed some of my favouritest films ever). If you look really really hard at some of the crowd shots, you might see me dancing and singing along.
Today is Catch Up On Lost Day with Crafty Friend, who is due to arrive anytime now. I’ve got some black bean and sweet potato burritos all ready to go for tonight’s dinner, and a rhubarb coffeecake in the oven. Needless to say, the house smells delish.
gt, I can think of a few options. To start, there are several US-based companies with Canadian outlets… Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, Williams-Sonoma and Walmart all have stores in the Frozen North.
The only catch is that sometimes the US gift cards won’t work in Canada, for some strange reason. Best to ask before you buy.
If you don’t mind buying online or over the phone, additional options would be Canadian Tire or HBC (which owns The Bay and Zellers). Both companies have plenty of locations in the Vancouver area, and sell just about anything a young couple would need to set up house at reasonable prices.
Home and exhausted. We went out on the boat for a while, but it wasn’t a good sailing day. The wind was mostly light, and often dead, so after an hour or so, we took down the sails and motored back to the marina. Nephew had a ball at the helm. Once we were back in our slip, they went for a quick dip in the pool while **FCD **and I finished the boat chores. Then we went to Cheeseburger in Paradise for lunch.
I was going to mess around in my studio for a while, but I’m just too tired to bother with it. Maybe after work tomorrow. I just want to nap… zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Anyway, since we had such a late, big lunch, I don’t have to cook supper tonight. So yay for that. But I see by the clock on the mantle that it’s about time to feed the zoo. Always something…
