NBC's 1980 BRAVE NEW WORLD movie- GREAT but...

never actually broadcast on NBC…

Back when I saw the botched skeletal 2 hr. (including commercials) outline of Huxley’s BNW, I wondered what happened to “the mini-series” spectacular I’d been promised. This was a “streamlined soulless” parody of the heartfelt dystopian classic I’d read over & over in my high school years.

Thanks to video google uk, I finally saw the full 3 hr version- Praise Ford! It’s flawed, yes, but so much better than the crippled thing foisted off on us by NBC’s damned executives.

I’m won’t link it as I’m not sure if it would violate the rules, but I do recommend it for anyone who loved the book.

Btw- damn, Bud Cort was skinny then!

Meh. I saw that when it aired and, having read the book, I was disappointed (and not because it was too short or left anything out).

Did you see the 1980 (maybe 1981) NBC broadcast? Or did you catch an actual broadcast of the 3 hr (probably 4 with commercials) version (which I’ve heard may have been shown at one time on SciFi Channel)?

Maybe the 3 hr version wasn’t really great, but it is a damn sight better than the originally-broadcast one.

Incidentally, there was also a much-distorted version done in the last decade, also for NBC, one of the few high points of it being Leonard Nimoy as Mustapha Mond.

Btw, would a link break any rules?
