NBC's Community is Doomed - Moved to Fridays Following the Execreble Whitney

WTF does “Execreble” mean? To me it looks like the word should mean “full of shit.”

It’s actually execrable and it means really horrible, bad, wretched. It originates in a Latin word meaning something like “deserving to be put under a curse.”

Comedy Central has picked up the show for syndication. This should helps its ratings, even on Fridays.

Dan Harmon just confirmed on his blog that he is officially off the show.

And Chuck was also on Friday nights. So I think you’re right that NBC is targeting nerds. CBS seems to be targeting old people with shows like Blue Bloods. And ABC used to have a block of family-oriented comedies.

Well that’s the real death knell.

I’ll still watch to see what the show’s become after Harmon’s departure. But just out of curiosity and support of the, (mostly), fantastic cast.

Anyone else going to tune in next year?

I will probably watch for the cast for a while, but shows like this that have such a unique voice tend to go horribly horribly wrong when the voice gets taken away. Harmon was Community’s voice. The people that they are bringing in to replace him have an ok track record, but no matter who it is it won’t be the same show.

I still have high hopes for the next season.
What makes Community good is also what alienates a casual audience, and taking Harmon away is what’s going to open up the audience appeal hopefully. It won’t be the same show I love, but the characters will get to live, and they will never be able to truly revert back to season 1 simplicity.

NBC postpones season 4 premiere of Community (and Whitney)

Community season 4 won’t be premiering on Oct. 19. A return date for the show has not been announced.

Not sure what to make of this. Sounds like NBC may be waiting to see when they might have a hole in their schedule that they need to fill. Some commenters are looking at possible positive outcomes–like a more desirable timeslot on a different night–but it’s kind of hard to see a bright side to having no definite premiere date.

I’m fairly certain that Animal Practice will be cancelled shortly, so maybe there’s hope for a Thursday timeslot opening?

That’s a Wednesday night show. On Thursdays NBC currently has 30 Rock, Up All Night, The Office, and Parks & Rec.

We got HuluPlus about two months ago and I finally saw Community for the first time. We blasted through all three seasons in about 3 weeks and were sad when we ran out of episodes. It’s hard to remember if I’ve ever laughed at a sitcom as much as this one.

What the hell, people? I need more Community*!

*with Dan Harmon!

They still advertise the show on Facebook a lot.

I love Community. Hope it survives this ominous news. Don’t understand why Whitney lasted past two episodes. yuck.

I bet they’re trying to figure out how to showcase recurring character Officer Cackowski of campus security (played by Craig Cackowski) to best advantage.

Oh, by the way, I totally used to do improv with him. :stuck_out_tongue:

My guess is that Whitney spends a lot of time bent over the network executives’ desks. Either that, or she has some truely excellent blackmail material on them.

'Cause it sure as hell ain’t good acting or writing that got that show renewed.

It’s so cute how you think good acting or writing are what network executives look at when deciding whether to renew a show or not.

I think it was made clear that it was oral sex. Lots and lots and lots of oral sex.

That wasn’t clear to me at all.

I inferred that she was taking it from behind.
