Oh yeah. That too. That’s why it was executives (plural).
You’re right. It can only have been that she used her vagina to get her show renewed and the fact that its ratings for the season finale were almost twice as high as Community’s was a complete non-factor in their decision.
since when do ratings always = quality? Two and a Half Men gets pretty good ratings and I would argue it’s pretty low quality stuff.
Besides, the Community fans obviously hate the Whitney show, are in a panic and feel the need to snark.
the pervasive sexism was a llittle obnoxious, but Whitney’s creator herself seemed sexist and obnoxious to me.
I never said they do. I strongly suspect that Ow! My Balls! would get much higher ratings than any of us would like to admit to. But let’s not kid ourselves that network execs are looking at anything but what they think is going to pad their bottom line.
I don’t doubt that to be the case. But there are some shows that are allowed to find their place (Cheers as a famous example) when bottom line said they should have been cancelled. Parks & Rec probably would have been cancelled its first season had their not been for the relationship they had with the Office producers. The Cleveland Show for another, though Seth MacFarlane owns the network by now.
Nevertheless, you’re correct. I’m looking on Wiki and I see that Community had a bigger premiere in 2009 with 7.89 million viewers and lost almost half of them by year’s end. Whitney had 6.84 million viewers to start and went down to 4.04 million. Bottom line is that Whitney averaged 1 million more than Community throughout this year.
And as a side note, why the hell is Wikipedia a better source for the ratings information I want than Ratings By the Numbers? I swear to God, they purposely make their website as convoluted as possible to ensure you have to click through 5 pages before not finding the information you’re looking for.
Maybe I was a bit harsh. We’re still plagued with crappy reality shows, so apparently quality isn’t a major consideration. Or even an afterthought.
Twice as high? She must have been sore the next morning!
It seems like I read that Whitney Cummings was actually called out by another fairly well-known female comic/actress (maybe that nasty slag Chelsea Handler?) on a talk show they were both appearing on, and flat-out accused of sleeping her way to her own sit-com.
I might be mistaken, but it was one of those comments that was at the same time both half joking/half serious, and apparently Whitney seemed to take offense, and didn’t just laugh it off. It is supposedly a well-known fact in Hollywood that she put out to advance her career.
I fully believe the “casting couch” is still a very real part of the industry.
Could you maybe cram a few more waffle words in there? If she had sex with people for the express purpose of getting her own show, either she’s dumb or they are and she’s no more of a slag than whoever chose to fuck her.
Besides, there’s nothing wrong with sex and everything wrong with assuming the only way a woman could be successful is by prostituting herself.
Diddums I hwurt your widdle feelings?
Supposedly NBC could be delaying Community to better promote it. I’m doubtful but hope so. http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-watching/community-whitney-premieres-delayed-by-nbc
My feelings are fine. I’m merely tired of misogynistic posts. Supposedly, people come here for intelligent commentary on the arts so let’s do so and leave the smirking salacious gossip to, I dunno, TWOP or something.
And kudos to Ender and Diceman who recognized and returned to the aforementioned fact-based discussion.
I doubt it was Chelsea Handler considering she became a big deal while dating the CEO of Comcast and the E! Network. That’s not gossip, it’s fact. I’m sure it’s just coincidence that her big “Chelsea Handler Show” was on E!
I believe it’s called Chelsea Lately, presumably short for “who’s screwing Chelsea lately?”

It’s always October 19th in my heart!
Damn you! I wanted to post that.
You’ve made my heart feel like it’s already October 20th and I’ve somehow missed the premiere.
Don’t worry it will be October 19th in a few months. In the meantime you can catch Annie’s Boobs on the hit NBC show Animal Practice. It’s pretty much the same show.
Just read where Chevy Chase (beloved movie star and ex-comedian) was angry and frustrated during a recent taping of Community, which led to a verbal tirade against the show’s writers, an outburst that included the word “Nigger” several times, in presence of his two African American co-stars, Donald Glover and Yvette Nicole Brown.
(Apparently he didn’t actually call either of them niggers, which he repeatedly pointed out in his apology, so we know he is a good guy afterall)
On a more positive note…
Alison Brie and Gillian Jacobs in a “pin up special” photoshoot!
Spoilered for NSFW youtube video:
That is the best October 19th ever!
