Never mind Spiderman, Batman, Daredevil, The X-Men, etc. etc...

Mrs. Tranq wants a Wonder Woman movie NOW!!!

Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger is a neat concept, but the name itself may be a problem.

Somehow I don’t see Green Lantern & the Silver Surfer as workable movie concepts…

So do I!

And Gen 13! Please do Gen 13!

I’m of the opinion that most comic books characters are best potrayed in animated form rather then motion picture. Has anyone seen Batman: Mask of the Phantasm? It was head and shoulders above any of the Batman movies. And the animated characters actually look something like they comic book characters.

Marc

Wonder Woman, eh? Pam Greer would ROCK as Wonder Woman!

Hey! How about a Superman movie?

What?

They did?

How many?

Oh.

Actually, there were a few forms of the Ghost Rider even in the original run. At the first, and I have only one or two issues to base this on, it appears that the transformation into GR was a controllable choice. Blaze could transform at will. It was somewhere around issue #69 or so that they retold the origin, playing up the “demon” angle and naming him Zarathos, and making the transformations involuntary. Thereafter, Blaze lived a constant struggle to keep the demon locked up inside himself; Zarathos would escape when Blaze’s resolve flagged, when his life was in danger and Blaze had to let him out or die, or when he was so pissed that he actually wanted someone to get hurt. Blaze was, with this retelling of the origin, a stunt cyclist with a traveling carnival, although I don’t know precisely when this started. Anyway, GR’s motorcycle was made of flame, and he could project fire from his hands. His key ability was to burn a person with “cold fire” that would burn their soul but leave their body unmarked.

Anyway, it’s entirely possible that I’m not batting a thousand with the story either, so feel free to correct me. I’m feeling an urge to dig out my old issues.

I wanna see a Doctor Strange movie. Imagine what CGI could do for the Dark Dimension of the Dread Dormammu…

Careful what you wish for, Dijon. It was only a few short years ago that I thought, “Man, imagine what CGI could do for magic. I wish they’d make a Dungeons and Dragons movie!”

According to USA Today, Sandra Bullock is planning a Wonder Woman movie.

So how about my favorite obscure Marvel hero, Captain Ultra?

Dr Strange did have a pilot episode for a tv series. This was in the 70’s or 80’s IIRC. It stank.

Last I heard the Gen 13 animated movie was almost finished. I don’t remember whether they were aiming for theatrical release or going straight to video.

Great film!

Me, I’m still waiting for Martin Scorsese to do the definitive Ambush Bug movie. DeNiro was born for the role.

But until then, I could see either Teen Titans or Gen13 as good movie prospects. Both would feature a group of young actors and actresses in spandex, so they’d draw the teenage crowd. Green Lantern would be a good basis for a CGI spectacular. But unfortunately, one you get past the green glowing effects, the GL story itself isn’t that dramatic.

I’ve read the script for the proposed Watchmen movie. A few interesting ideas but, overall, it was better off unmade.

I’d like to see a Nexus movie. Superheros in a science fiction setting. Good characters, dramatic background, nice potential for action, plentiful SFX opportunities. A winning combination.

Dr. Strange had a 2 hour movie in the 1970’s on CBS. It wasn’t great. Not as bad as the live-action Spider-Man of the 1970’s with Nicholas Hammond.

Wonder Woman. I am besiged with questions about the movie because of my website.

There is no movie. The last time serious discussion went on was 1996. No one has written a full script, there have only been treatments and proposals.

The Sandra Bullock thing is to keep the concept alive in the public mind. I think she’d be a horrid Wonder Woman. Now… Pam Grier… I’d rather see a black woman like her in the role than some wimpy white woman with a following.

The reason I’ve been told on why a Wonder Woman movie has not been done yet is because the Lynda Carter version is so entrenched in the conciousness of America that they don’t think it would do well.

Kelly Hu from the Scorpion King as Wonder Woman would be cool.

The more I’m thinking about it, the more I like the idea of a black Wonder Woman. The whole island of Amazons could be women of all races, and Wonder Woman could come out into the big, bad world, and not even have a clue about racism or that race is even an issue.

I suippose it is possible but I don’t find it very likely. Batman certainly had to live down his television persona by the time Keaton took up the role. In fact in interviews before the movie came out they made it a point to distance themselves from the West television show.

I find it more likely that they’re afriad a Wonder Woman movie will be a flop. While everyone knows who Wonder Woman is she’s not as popular as Superman or Batman. And I wouldn’t doubt that they’re nervous about a leading superheroine not drawing in the box office numbers. Remember Supergirl? Uh, of course the movie Supergirl wasn’t particularly good so maybe we don’t want to remember it.

Marc

  • I’m not knocking Wonder Woman. I just think she happens to be one of the most well known superheros that nobody knows anything about.
PS: How’s your WW message board going?

Not well. Many have browsed as guests, but only two have registered and posted.

re: the movie

Unlike the 60’s Batman(which hurt comic books more than it ever helped), the 70’s Wonder Woman series is fondly remembered, and the ABC version set in 1942 is very well regarded.

Batman had an image to live down.

Wonder Woman has an image to live up to.

YMMV.

If anyone’s curious about Wonder Woman, or wants to check out the message board, http://www.wonderwoman-online.com is the place to go.

Lord knows I would love to have dopers on there. You guys would give the place the tone I want to have.

I browsed it a bit but didn’t register on account of me not being a huge WW fan. You seem to like talking about other comics so why not consider a general comic book forum? It might have a broader appeal. Of course you might not want the pain in the ass that the broader appeal might bring.

You make a pretty good point. To this day when I think Wonder Woman I picture Lynda Carter in my tiny little brain. When I think of Batman I picture the one from the Animated Series.

And I myself prefer the version set during WWII. Wonder Woman fighting NAZIs is just so right. I feel the same way about Captain America.

Hastur’s got a great Wonder Woman site. I stumbled across it months before I knew it was his. Great pictures of Golden Age Wonder Woman all the way through Lynda Carter and everything you want to know about Wonder Woman and more.

Do they make any good Wonder Woman toys? I have the DC Direct version of the Golden Age WW complete with shield, sword, and to much blush. I’d like to buy one of my neices a WW doll or action figure that they can play with.

I’ll be an *uber-comic geek and vote for a Strikeforce: Morituri movie, with Peter Gillis at the helm. Anyone who hasn’t read the first 20 issues of the comic book series is missing out on some seriously deep sht.

And while I’ve love to see a Usagi Yojimbo movie, I have to say that I don’t think there’s a chance in hell that Hollywood could do one and not completely screw up the concept. It’d probably work as an anime series, though.

I’d love to see an Elementals movie, from the late 80s comic of the same name.

Hell, I’d love to get ahold of some of the issues from the original story arc, before Image took Comico over and screwed up the series.
Plot summary: Lazurus didn’t really want to be ressurected. He REALLY didn’t want to be made immortal. Royally pissed off, he spends a century or so learning all the dark magic he can, as well as researching as many true demon names he can get. He then spends about 9 centuries casting his own little Armageddon spell, The Shadow Spear. With the spell nearing completion, the four elemental aspects of the Godhead cause four people to be ressurected and granted elemental powers. Their mission, defeat Lazurus (He goes by a different name, but I can’t remember what it is), and prevent the Spear from being released.
