Had a dream that I went to a resort in Mexico owned by Trump and I was on the shuttle bus with him. Welcome to my nightmare. Today is sunny with a nice breeze so the windows are open. Going out to dinner tonight, I may even have a cocktail.
You could have maybe done what this guy did here in MSP. A storm took off the top of his 150-year-old oak tree, so he hired a chainsaw artist to come up with an idea. Here’s the result:
The tree was termite-ridden all the way to the roots. The chopping I did last week, about a third of the wood was usable as in no termite damage, and got put into the shed. I chopped up the termite-y wood and put it by the road until a neighbour started loading it into his car. He said he’d take the remaining five logs and split them himself. In any case, the tree was no good for a sculpture.
I know it’s Sunday. Dunno where my brain was on my last post.
The new fuse block is wired except for the radio on the fly bridge. It’s getting better… Back to work!
I’ve had a couple of one-gallon, glass, apple juice jugs sitting outside for a few years. I’d cleaned them and put on their caps, so I assume the insides are not full of green like the outsides are. I’m thinking of cleaning one of them up (and washing the inside with a bleach solution just to be sure) and making sun tea.
Dinner + hanging out at my place with my dad and bro went surprisingly well (often we’re only good for about an hour before we start getting on each others’ nerves), and the restaurant had a “lo cal plate” of plain baked chicken and a bowl of fruit that was perfect for me. I was a little nervous about the chicken – my first real food since Wednesday – but I didn’t eat much and it wound up being fine. This might be the day to attempt something other than fruit for lunch… ![]()
I started the laundry earlier, but otherwise I have zero plans to do anything productive. Last weekend was kind of busy, it was a long/challenging week, and yesterday wasn’t completely my own, so I’m quite happy with the prospect of staying home and accomplishing very little today. And even though the end of June has snuck up on me, it’s nice to be heading into this week with the knowledge that next Monday is a holiday.
I think I’ve mentioned my upcoming family reunion: late July, northern NJ, Dad’s side of the family. The restaurant isn’t far from where my cousins on my mom’s side live, so I’ve decided to make it a mini-vacation, drive up three days before, and stay in a B&B near them. Yesterday I sent those cousins a group FB message, letting them know that I’ll be in town in about a month and would love to see whoever’s available while I’m there. I got some positive reactions, and now the trip is starting to feel “real.” I’m looking forward to seeing everyone (on both sides) – despite the NJ Turnpike, the possibility of very hot/humid weather, and having to kennel my doggy.
Sorry about your wife’s friend, Chefguy. ![]()
Not that long ago, a dozen of them might not have made it out of my car… ![]()
Sorry about the Cerby drama, but I’m glad he seems to have found a good fit at Niece1’s place. And although I wish he hadn’t bitten anyone, I’m also glad he didn’t bite your mother!
My army of ninja Sri Lankan spiders with hob-nailed boots amd pointy sticks will herd them up and march them to the appropriate person!
They do think I can work miracles for them, we are in charge of applying (and removing) penalty deductions for late submissions of work so they start trying that line to bump up their marks fora better degree result, and the continuing students want the best possible marks.
I, however, will be swanning around in a frock having prosecco and fancy tiny sadnwiches at the shiny new campus hotel.
Good morning everyone.
It’s currently 58 degrees with an expected high of 91. GULP. That’s hot for these here parts.
I slept in too much and am irritated with myself. I initially woke up a 4:30 all in a panic thinking I’d overslept and would be late (for me) to the office. I was going to email the boss and tell her I’d work from the office tomorrow (Tuesday) instead. Then, just as I got to the bathroom, I realized it was Sunday. I ended up going back to sleep where I had strange dreams that I can longer remember. I remember waking up often from these dreams thinking how strange and disturbing they were, but now I don’t remember why.
I was down at Lowes and then Home Depot by 9:00 am yesterday. I spent far too much money and didn’t get everything I wanted. I was going to have Lowes deliver 15 bags of Miracle Gro Organic raised bed dirt, but they wanted to charge me an additional 80 dollars to do that. That’s almost as much as the dirt. I looked into getting a yard delivered, it’ll cost me over 100 bucks, whereas if I picked it up, it would cost 25.00 bucks. I really, really miss having a pick-up truck, damn it.
Just got done setting up the sprinkler in my backyard. I figure I’ll get the lawn watered and get down some weed and feed. I have a clover patch that has just taken over one part of my yard and it’s now trying to creep to the other side. Ironically, the clover infestation occurred where I put down grass seed.
I whacked the hell out of my wisteria. It had become quite the jungle. I didn’t really want to do that, but I couldn’t find an arbor yesterday. It was making it impossible to get to my yard waste bin and for the meter reader to get to the meter if he had to. I was surprised that I hadn’t received an email already. It’s all mostly electronic now, but you never know.
I’m debating going to get a pedicure. I am in dire need because I’d really like to wear sandals in public and a girl needs pretty toes. At least this girl does. I am not really a girly-girl, but for some reason, this is my line in the sand. My nails must be painted if they will be in public. Not that anyone gives a rats you-know-what; but I do.
Since I started typing this, the temp has climbed up to 66 degrees.
I hope you have a terrific day. Hugs to those who need or want them.
Afternoon all, assorted hugs, trouts, boos, please apply as required.
I ran away from the university yesterday- they were having their big summer pissup ‘ball’, which I believe ran until 4 in the bleedin’ am. I am far too old for that sort of thing, and it was loud, so I spent the night with a friend who has a flat in town.
Still testing plague negative, but I’m almost at the frustration point with this Scotland trip that I’m almost half hoping I do get sick so I don’t have to bother… I’m sure it’ll be interesting, but with all the last minute changes, my nice stay in Edinburgh is now downgraded to a bed in a dorm room, 'cos there’s bugger all else in a reasonable price range at short notice, and I still need to arrange the first and last section of the trip.
I heard my first mosquito of the season outside a little bit ago.
Deadpig strips are undergoing thermal excitation. Krusteaz and keto pancake batters are batted. Cackleberries are coming to ambient temperature.
Sari I hope hospice has made your mom comfortable. From everything I have heard, they are wonderful people. I’m glad Cerby has found a place to go that isn’t your place. You don’t need a dog that bites and runs. Nope.
I believe I used this exact phrase with Beamette. What a world we are giving her.
BooFae go you! Enjoy the little sandwiches. ![]()
Today I slept in until almost 9. I don’t know what happened. Adrenaline caught up with me I guess. Zorro (the new pup) let me scratch his head without looking like I might just eat him.
I think he will settle in. I’m encouraging my son to be liberal with the bribes.
Hubby is hobbling around. He insisted on walking to the mailbox last night and now he is very sorry. He won’t take Advil or Tylenol. He won’t use ice packs. Sunny mad. Sunny smash/ look for a kitten.
We’ve settled into our Summer pattern. Days over 100, with a chance of arson. Small fires every day. I hope they catch the bastards.
Mrs. L.A. discovered a leak behind the tub. Fortunately, there had been work back there before and the drywall in the laundry room wasn’t patched and painted; just screwed back up. I left a message to the 24/7 plumber we’ve used before, asking if we can get someone out sometime next week. Since the faucet is ancient and disgusting (and one of the valves is stripped and the other one is crooked), I’ve ordered a new faucet from Home Despot. I’ll go get it today.
Happy Sunday! I took my babushka cart and walked to the store early to avoid the heat. It still seemed hot to me. I’m glad to be home.
I’m trying to figure out what to say to my daughter when she calls. I’m terrified and heartbroken for her. I want to say more, but I know we’re not supposed to talk politics here. I fear harder times lie ahead.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! You made a funny!!! Um, not, not even close.
See how ignorant I am? I hope there’s at least a lot of satisfaction in getting the work done.
In my first 30 minutes up, I tended to the critters, emptied and refilled the dishwasher, and cleaned the critter fountain.
In my first 30 minutes up, I spend 28 minutes blearily staring at my reflection and trying to figure out if I’m alive. Then I brush my teeth.
Glad the widow maker fell during the night so nobody got hurt. That is one beautiful, tall tree!
sari, I hope your mom eats some donuts and enjoys them. And I hope your visit with her is a pleasant one.
cookie, I’m so sorry about your wife’s friend. He sounds like a great guy. And I love the pencil sculpture.
nut, I forgot to say earlier that I hope you recover soon. Sounds like a right nasty bug.
BooFae, The last day of any semester always meant much weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth. And that was the teachers!
OK, kidding. It doesn’t seem to matter how many times over the term you tried to tell students they needed to turn stuff in or study harder, the reality never hit some of them until the last minute. I’m sorry you have to deal with all that, but may I say I envy the faculty where you work?
shoe, don’t fret about being too needy with Gentleman Caller. I think you satisfy his needs in a way that’s more than worth a few tears on his shoulders.
WetOne, sounds like one of those mornings when waking to reality is a big relief.
Hi all. I’ve read all, but hate typing on my tablet so this will be short. I’m on my tablet because hubs left arm suddenly became hot, red and badly swollen. Currently I’m sitting in my car under a tree at the back of the ER parking lot while he’s getting IV antibiotics.
The hospital staff don’t want me with him because he’s still testing positive for COVID so I can’t ask all the questions I usually would.
At least we are in Prescott and not the Valley.
Hope that all goes well for him. Sounds awful. Did he have an animal bite or scratch on that arm? Happened to me once from the tiniest, cutest little kitten. A rescue kitten I was looking at to consider adopting. Didn’t seem like a big deal until 10 days later big brouhaha in the ER.
Of course I turned out to be allergic to the first antibiotic given, barfed for days and had to start all over again. Finally got a kitten from a home cattery 300 miles away. Wasn’t willing to risk more rescue unknowns that I had to be rescued from. The next two kittens were from a rescue group, but from one that knew what they were doing.
Of course any cat bite or scratch can lead to red, swollen get your sorry butt to a doctor, even GG.
Did hubs have to get a fresh tetanus too? All those opportunity to faint dead away.
Playing with the grand babies today. Lots of joy but physically demanding. It seems to amuse the h-e-double toothpicks out of my grand daughter to brush, comb and “style’ my hair. Her favorite has been “Sloth Grandma”-a curtain of hair combed forward covering my face. I look like an Addams Family character.

That was extraordinarily kind of you. It’s exactly what he was trying to tell me as well.
Thank you.

It’s COVID, so I hope they’re checking for thrombosis. Yes, I can be bossy. It’s my turn today. ![]()
We’re back from getting boosted, then we tried the new dumpling place and 'twas nummy. We’ll definitely be going back. Zorro has figured out that people bring him treats and perks right up when people appear. We’ll win him over in no time. knocks on wood
I cleaned. I poured lava and boiling acid onbathed Gordie. Then I put all his sleepng towels in the wash. Poor boy is traumatized for life now. I took a nap. I have Trisha Yearwood beef stew going in the slow cooker.
Sorry about the Mom and Cerby drama, sari. But glad hospice came by.
I am far too old for that sort of thing,
You’re never too old.
Hope hubs heals up quick, JtC.
It’s exactly what he was trying to tell me as well.

That’s the underfoot dog who tripped your DH, do I remember correctly?
No. Zorro is the little rescue pup that someone left in front of the vet in a shopping cart covered in his own waste. Husband tripping dog is Yoshi, the canine equivalent of GG.
