I’ve imparted so much gloom and frustration here lately that I thought I’d share something nice. I keep in touch with quite a few of my former students. Two of them got married (to each other) and are expecting a baby soon. I sent them a little baby gift and got a sweet thank you card today. They said as a teacher, I’d touched their lives and shaped their world view more than I could know. The point of this isn’t that I got a compliment; it’s that we probably have a greater influence on people than we realize, something to remember on those grizzly, drizzly days when the world seems bent on imploding. We still matter.
Dice, I LOVE that chocolate! It’s so cool to think of you all the way over there enjoying something I enjoy.
flyboy, I used to tell my shedding dogs, “Concentrate harder on suuuuucking in that fur!” They blithely ignored me. Not that you’d be tempted to say such a thing to the likely culprit since you’re so fond of her.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! You made a funny!!! Um, not, not even close. We’re still wringing out the electrical systems - haven’t even started with the fresh water or the blowers or the terlit that won’t flush or the teak that needs to be stripped, sanded, and revarnished. It’s a 37-y/o boat, so stuff keeps popping up. Maybe by next year the lion’s share of repairs will be done.
But we’re home, and it was a pretty good day of work followed by a dip in the pool. Roxy made a couple of friends and Tobias tried to drink his share of the pool. We’re beat - I foresee early bedtime, but at the moment, I’ve got a load of towels in the washer to be hung out overnight, followed by a load of unders to be tossed in the dryer, then folded tonight. So no rest yet.
Meanwhile, my stove timer is about to go off - back to the kitchen!!
Howdy Y’all! I was not over to the church house very long today. A couple of folks got a jump start on mowin’ yestiddy, so there was not that much left to do. I got back to da cave around ten-thrity but could have been earlier except I hung around to run my mouth for about half an hour whilst over at the church house. The rest of the day has been spent in sloth and nappage, except for the makin’ and eatin’ of the dawgs for sup. Fartfest is now under way. None of the promised rain has showed up.
Oopsie have fun with family tonight. Glad your tummy is better.
Nellie glad you got the a/c up and runnin’.
Nettie glad you have such able nap helpers.
I’m sorry about the accident Doggio. Sad and scary both.
BooFae I’m glad Hell Week is ending.
Nut I think this latest COVID variant is a bit more resistant to the vaccines, bless its heart. I hope you beat it. When do you move up North for your program?
Yesterday had many challenges, which I will get to in a moment, but this was devastating. I knew it was coming, and it was still devastating.
Hugs to you shoe. I’m glad you are eating. It sounds like you need to get some more meat on your bones.
This sounds a bit like Calvin Ball. I’d love to see a game.
Sorry to hear about GirlChild Bumba.
flyboy the time I had something similar happen to mine, I called Dyson tech support and they talked me through it. Their machines are very easy to take apart and service it turns out, and their support agents are easy to work with.
Is there a bar we could meet at, because I feel like a women’s night is in order - before we’re not allowed out in public anymore.
I am soooo jealous.
Yesterday started with a call from my husband saying that he had fallen while he was out running and could I come get the dog, because the ambulance was taking him to hospital.
So my daughter and I rushed over to meet the fire department and got the dog, took dog home, and rushed to ED. Long story shorter, hubby tripped over dog while jogging, pushed himself to get up too fast because he watched some video by a navy seal, saw blood and fainted, fainted again. Someone called an ambulance. I am NOT certain of the sequence of events, but the Navy Seal bit and fainting several times because BLOOD that’s all true. I’ve mentioned that he was studying for the MCAT when we started dating I think.
He’s beat up, but fine.
Late afternoon to all. I have taken swampy’s slothing to heart, outside of watching a little TV and a 2-hour nap, my major activity has been dressing up (for me, putting on my good dress shoes is considered dressing up) and going to Cracker Barrel for a early dinner. And that’s about all the activity you’re going to get out of me today.
nellie, I only suggested duct tape because I am an absolute klutz when it comes to fixing anything and duct tape is the only thing I know how to use. Glad you’re smarter than I am.
Bigfoot been visiting?
Oopsie, hope the appetite keeps coming back.
OK, need to think about doing something…nah, readin’ and internettin’ will be enough for the rest of the day, Sunday maybe I’ll be more active.
All y’all take care.
Got back from my walk down the beach. 2.56 miles. Showered, moved the Prius and the RAV to the street, moved the Jeep & kayaks to the lawn, got the MGB out, and took off its top.
No yakkin’ today. SWMBO didn’t wanna. We’ll take a spin in the MG, and pick up some Thai food on the way home.
seanette, when I had cats, those were their preferred sleeping positions when I was in the bed.
nellie, as teachers, you DID have more influence than you will likely ever know (thanks Sister Aloysius, third grade and Mr. Chubb, HS geometry).
I hope that your hubby isn’t too sore in the morning sunny.
SIL and I made a leisurely drive down Riverside Dr. , Nashville to Shelby Park and back, and by that time, nephew Dugan had prepared picadillo, rice, black beans and cilantro/lime slaw for us with birthday cake and Cuban coffee for dessert. A good time was had by all.
Now, I’m surfing with a little reddish dog in my arms.
There were lots o’ kids around today. The neighbors 2 houses up have grands over, the next door neighbors have a bunch over. One thing I must note is that 10 year old boys yelling is way less annoying than 10 year old girls shrieking.
But, let them have their fun. I got ribs on the grill, so shout all you want.
We went to get Thai take-out, and they had dine in! First time since the pandemic started. So we dines in. Then we drove down the wharf area. They closed off the pier years ago, and people can’t drive out and park on it anymore. We parked and looked at Boundary Bay and White Rock, and watched a harbour seal playing around in the water.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 73 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 92 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization. I shall handle the Chalice today. After that we shall return to da cave for a N.O,L. of leftovers from the big meal I cooked on Firday. Sloth, nappage, possible quality cee-mint pond time, and general overall uselessness shall comprise the rest of the day.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.
Happy Sunday Y’all!
Morning, mumpers! It’s 17c/63f outside and sunny. Weather app is channelling swampy because it says “It’s a great day for naps. Followed by naps”. I would agree with that, but I have stuff to do. However, if I get said stuff done now, I can have naps (or at least sofa slothage) later.
Nut I hope you don’t have plague, and manage to get up to ScottieDogLand for a visit. I have a couple of job applications on the go for Strathclyde and St Andrews but don’t expect anything to come of it.
I’m very glad that Hell Week is over, now we get to do the fun stuff on Monday and release all the results to students, then work out why various other results won’t release properly, and await the deluge of complaints from students who didn’t get what they thought they deserved.
On the plus side, I have an award ceremony thing to attend on Monday to collect a Sir StickyFoot for a management course I completed last year. There will be prosecco and afternoon tea, and shock, horror I will be wearing a frock!
Wow, BooFae! Must be a fancy-schmancy tea to don a frock for the occasion.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasting and will take Nelson to the dog park after KP and a shower. Not much on the slate today other than the usual Sunday chores. Red beans for red beans and rice are in the crock now, so I’ll chop veggies when I do KP.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
4 y/o girls have ear-piercing shrieks also, and she’s teaching her brother to be equally shrill. At least outside it’s not quite as painful as in the living room!
They complain to you rather than their instructors? Seriously? Do they think you have that kind of power and influence over the professors? Or do you…? Is that an aura of power I sense around you??

I think a combination of physical labor during the day and staying up later at night is making me sleep in - woke at 6:30 today!! Nice change from the usual 4:30-5 wakeage of the past. In my first 30 minutes up, I tended to the critters, emptied and refilled the dishwasher, and cleaned the critter fountain. I have since had some PB&J toast and now I’m caffeinating.
It was weird to look out the back window and see laundry hanging on the lines - it would have been weirder if it hadn’t been ours!
Then I looked out the front window and saw this:
I think it came from here:
about 30 feet up. It’s weird because there was no wind to speak of overnight. I guess it just gave up the ghost. Thankfully, it was far from anything that could be damaged, tho I may have a couple of divots in the lawn. But that’s a chore for later. I’m not going to move fallen timber in my robe and slippers!
Pretty sure we’ll be heading back to the marina after FCD wakes. It’s going to be a hot one today - the a/c on the boat has been working like a champ! No telling what our electric bill from the marina will be, but I’ll worry about that later.
And after we get home, I’ll bring in the towels, etc, from the lines before evening chillage. I have the Tobester for a little while in the morning while SIL goes on an appointment. I know he schedules them for Moanday since that’s one of his days off, but it’s also one of my days off. At least he asks in advance so I can plan accordingly.
But that’s tomorrow. Onward into today!!
Happy Moanday!!
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. The usual cleaning shall commence after coffee.
I usually nap after chores. It’s the best thing when an episode of Feline Paralysis hits.
it’s the army of pointy stick wielding Sri Lankan spiders.
Woke up to the news that a very good friend of my wife’s died in his sleep last night. She’s known him for decades. He was one of those people who, if he wondered about something or some place, would just go there and see what all the fuss was about. He drove a rental car to Prudhoe Bay back when that road was not open to tourists. He would probably have climbed Everest just to see what’s up there, if the notion took him. This comes on top of her sister’s husband dying. We’ve lost a lot of folks between us over the past five years.
Morning all. No rain showed up yesterday but a 40-60% of falling water today and tomorrow, so we’ll see. Try to get to the gym today and maybe a few other things, but sloth is more than likely.
Cookie, sorry for the news. Like her friend, I have a little Rikki-Tiki-Tavi (go and find out) in me, so I can understand. Aging is not fun because we lose a lot on the way.
FCM, kinda glad I don’t have any trees on my property.
boo fae, agree with FCM, just point them at the professors and say have at it.
OK, onward into Sunday. All y’all have a good one.
No kidding.
Okay, I gotta get into a better headspace so I can get a new job.
I miss my crew, but I gotta move forward.
At least Gentleman Caller visited. I was crying over the Roe v Wade thing (I’d just been on the phone w a friend who has a young daughter, and she is - and I quote - “terrified for her”) and stuff from my own past (I will spare you details) and he listened very compassionately.
I feel bad being so needy at him lately. But it’s been one thing after another with me and I’m barely keeping it together. Sleeping a ridiculous amount.
Meh. Imma go back to bed. At least I have Coolio since it’s been unreasonably humid here lately.
Happy Sunday!
No park, we are going to the arm pit today.
My mother is not doing well, whenever I talk to her, she is slurring her words and forgetting thoughts mid-sentence. She sleeps a lot, and doesn’t want to eat or drink anything. Although she told me to bring 2 dozen donuts with me this time. A dozen Boston Cream and mix up the rest with cake type.
I was already planning to do that. Boston Creams go fast in her house. I’ll figure out the other types when I get there and see what they have.
I won’t be getting Cerby. He had a flip out, bit everybody who was in the house except my mother, slipped out the front door, chased a car up the street and got hit. Niece1 and my sister rushed him to the emergency vet, he is fine except for some bruises. Niece1 took him home with her and her ancient Pitbull is good with him, so she is keeping him. The part of the fence where he can get out is overgrown right now, so he hasn’t found that spot and doesn’t seem interested in escaping their yard. That gives them a little time to fix it.
Hospice came and did their thing. Everybody seems to be happy with it.
I’m late getting out of here, waiting for my son to get ready. I should have gotten him up sooner but I thought he took a shower this morning already.
I read, remember some, but gotta run.
I woke up after six! Yay!
Now I need coffee.
We got a lot of firewood from a breaking tree last year. (I mentioned
I cut up the rest of it last week.)
Sorry to hear that.
