New federal holiday in the MMP

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

They pass out the Sqwincher popsicicles at work when its really hot

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 103 and N.O.S. for the day. We shall procure provisions this mornin’ and have made the executive decision to have N.O,L. at the hog trogh Golden Corral. Other than that we shall be inside in the a/c honin’ our sloth and nappage skills. I think inside uselessness is what is called for today.

JtC us folks in rural areas take our entertainment where we can. Even though they are idiots, I hope they were not too badly hurt. I think a sign that says, Warning: JtC lives in this 'hood would compel the idiots to slow down to avoid THE WRATH OF THE CANE!

Nettie glad to know DH has some ways of stayin’ reasonably cool and hydrated. It’s still awful to have to be out in that heat, however.

Nellie perhaps you need some Cthulhu tracts to hand out to those who would proselytize. You could also say, very sweetly, “Satan is my co-pilot” and then begin to cackle.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy, Then, alas, alack, and bother of bothers, I suppose I must purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ out and amongst the great unwashed. Life can be so hard!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

At least he’s not a roofer. Which reminds me of a news report when we were living in FL. The Jacksonville area was getting record heat, and local news folks were going around interviewing local folks. One guy was a roofer, telling how it was worse them because they were closer to the sun.

Yeah, 93 million miles, less 30 feet? That makes a difference…

I woke stupid early to pee, but managed to fall back to sleep. For whatever reason, I was dreaming that Wil Wheaton was my neighbor and I was vacuuming over at his house while he moved the furniture for me. (No, I don’t randomly vacuum for my neighbors.) Even stupider, I was using one of those cheapie stick vacuums, and even in the dream, it was a piece of crap! I woke just before 6, very confused about that dream.

It’s starting around 65°, heading to 85° with a chance of rain in the evening. More rain and 73° for tomorrow. No specific plans for today, other than letting Roxy play in the basement this afternoon. I should push the vacuum around, but I can’t really do it when Tobester is here, and FCD is sleeping right now, so maybe this evening? The cat hair is getting out of control.

Speaking of cats, I don’t think Taz will be with us much longer. He’s acting fine, but he’s getting so thin, and he is an old man - we’re pretty sure he’s about 16. I just hope when the time comes, he goes to sleep and doesn’t wake. We’ve had to take 2 cats to be put down, and it’s hard.

But that’s for another day. We shall see what today brings. Happy Wednesday!!

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 57 degrees and cloudy, I guess because it’s still dark. The expected high is about 69 and skies will remain cloudy to partly cloudy all day.

They are still calling for temps in the 80s by Saturday which is downright cool for some of you folks.

Triple B, I’m so sorry about your health woes. I hope things get back on track soon.

shoe, I’m glad you have something to look forward to.

Work was annoying and annoying things happened. My MPA made a mistake because she wasn’t paying attention and it caused some stuff to be shipped to our state office instead of the area office on the other side of the state. When she told me about it, I told her she could take the van and take a day to get the stuff to the proper office. Normally, I would go with her and help her out. But, I’ve been doing a lot to help her clear her errors, and this time, I’m going to let her handle it on her own. As it turns out, it’s a whole pallet of banker’s boxes that were NOT flat-packed, but are in big boxes. She and her husband have opted to take their motorhome over there on Friday and turn it into a weekend after she delivers the boxes. I probably would have caved and come down to the state office to help her break down the boxes and then drive them over, if she hadn’t found that solution.

There were other things that happened that have made me seriously start looking around. It doesn’t have anything to do with my state office, but it does have to do with some reorganization in my division (I work for national leadership), a complete lack of communication about those changes, and just a general overall bad feeling about how that’s going to impact me. I have pretty good instincts, so I’m trusting them. It’s too bad because for all the annoyances I deal with, I generally like where I work. I don’t like myself and my peers being treated like red-headed stepchildren though, so it’s time to consider my options. I really love the mission of my organization, so it just sucks that some parts of national leadership think they can just jack us around. It’s very frustrating and political and I HATE politics.

FCM, I’m sorry to hear that Taz is getting on. I remember when you got him and I can’t believe how time flies.

I should finish my coffee. I have another long day ahead of me that includes HR, contracting and an abundance of meetings and other things to do.

I hope you all have a great day!

wow had an unexpected thunder and lightning storm for about 2 hours tonight around 1:30 am the light and sound show still going and looks like the rain can start whenever…

Hard hats in the summer are like an oven for your head. The high vis vests and the safety boots are also hot. I don’t miss any of it for a minute.

Morning all. Did my pedaling at the gym around 8pm last night so didn’t have the energy to write up more. Dentist appointment (regular cleaning and checkup) at 11:15am, so need to get presentable by then. Heading for 97F according to the Weather Wizards.

Wheelie’s travels has me exploring a July driving trip to Charleston, then up the coast to Wilmington or so, then over to Charlotte and home. Haven’t planned anything firm yet, but it’s in the back of my head.

Glad I’m not working outside like DH, Nettie; it’s pretty brutal here even just going out to shop. Hope he (and all other non-AC workers) stay well.

FCM, 16 years is a good run. Hope Taz can stick around a little longer, but if he’s suffering at any time you’ll do the right thing.

Taters, sounds like the MPA is willing to own up and fix her mistake, which is good on her, but lack of communication was always a pain to deal with. Hope it improves.

BBBoo, take care and {{{{hugs}}}}

JtC, glad no one was hurt too badly, but those guys tossing the bottles means that they didn’t want the cops to know…and thanks to you and husband-unit, they nailed them. Good on ya!

Seanette, doggio, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of Sqwincher, have to look for it.

nellie, that was a major amount of effort and I am sorry for you and the train folks that you encountered and Darwin Award winner; I watch Virtual Railfan clips and it’s amazing how many people do foolish things in front of moving trains.

Ok, need to get some sustenance and then clean up properly for have dental folks poke around in my mouth. All y’all take care.

Ugh. I could not find the lid to the coffee pot (percolator) so I had to root through the garbage. Yep, found it. Coffee is percolating away and I have sanitized my hands. Today will be in the 80s which will feel good after yesterday’s real feel of 105. I predict a slothful day with maybe a trip for pop and Gatorade.

Amazon has it, in a range of flavors. DH favors the sugar-free lemon-lime. As far as sport-drink type substances go, I think it tastes better than Gatorade. You might also try whatever industrial supply place you have available. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen it at a power tool outlet place DH likes.

Bit of a respite from the heat today, but tomorrow we’re back to the mid-90s. I think we’ll get our grocery shopping done this morning. This building has cooling, but it’s 30 years old and very inefficient. Basically it’s just a circulating system and not designed for high heat. There is an air handler in each apartment, but even with the thermostat turned all the way down and the fan all the way up, we can’t get below about 78 degrees in this heat. Additionally, the windows all have mini-blinds and no drapes to help with insulation. I’ve got a portable fan running at full speed in the living room to help move the freight.

Made it down my way around 3am. Woke me out of a sound sleep. Didn’t last as long as I’d like, but it watered the plants and knocked down the dust a bit. Of course, that means it will be humid af today. Luckily, it will also be a good 15ºF cooler today than yesterday.

Definitely. We knew with the other 2 there was no choice and it was time. Didn’t make it any easier, tho.

It’s nap time, so nice and quiet for an hour so far. If history is an indicator, it won’t last much longer. Hope I can at least have my lunch before he wakes.

I’m picturing you in your yard, swinging your cane like a golf club and, with absolute precision of course, pelting the idiots in their heads over and over with their own booze bottles.

Glad I could inspire your travel plans!
I’m really enjoying Charleston. It’s an entirely different animal from Myrtle Beach. MB is a family tourist destination; Charleston (or what I’ve seen of it so far) is definitely a locals’ town. The nearby beaches appear to be divided up into small islands, and they definitely don’t have the big hotel strip/amusement park/Boardwalk thing going on. You can take a boat out to Fort Sumter if you’re into that. I think there’s lots of history and stuff up in Wilmington too, though I’ve only been there once, many years ago.

Last night was dog night at the ballpark. Every Tuesday, apparently; the team is called the River Dogs, after all. We saw an almost-no-hitter - the visiting team’s only hit came with two outs in the ninth inning - and I got to pet a bunch of friendly doggos, so a very fun time. We bar-hopped our way back from the game, and every place has its own different vibe. The last place we ended up was a dive and a half, and I loved it.
One more night here in “The Chuck.”

Happy Hump Day!

The nice cool morning are over, and is supposed to get up to 88 today.
I’ll be staying in most of the day, only going out to pick up the dogs and take my son to irk.

My son cleaned the AC on Sunday. He opened the unit and found lots of dog and cat hair.
The only issue I am having is that in order to make it comfortable upstairs it has to be chilly downstairs. I woke up literally dripping sweat this morning. I’m going to have to adjust the thermostat when I go to bed and get up in the morning.

Annoyances abound and continue.

I’m dealing with mother shit. I am so angry with her and feel like I shouldn’t be, but she is back to her games and manipulations. I’m more angry with myself for letting my guard down. I talked with Niece1, who calmed me down a little. She said Niece2 told her that she thinks my mother is trying to pit us against each other, again. So I know it’s not just me.

She comes home from the ocean today, and I should call her, but right now I don’t want to talk to her.

Lawn guy didn’t show up yet, but he promises he will be here tomorrow. I hope so, I need the fence fixed where Echo can get out, and where I know Cerby is sure to get out. I need to follow up with my niece that he is up to date on his vaccines, so he can go to daycare too. I want to get him on a Thursday or Firday so my son is off irk and can go to the park with me. I want to get there early before other people so he doesn’t get overwhelmed walking into a pack of dogs. I think he will fit in once he gets comfortable, and hopefully he’ll burn up enough energy to be good the rest of the day.

I have a long assed list of stuff to do today. I’ll probably be lucky if I get half way through it and nothing on it is hard or time consuming. Mostly PITA stuff.

I’ve been making coffee in the percolator, and keeping it warm on the late Mr. Coffee. This morning, Mr. Coffee’s warming plate died. I’d put the coffee back into the percolator, but I don’t want it boiling away. ETA on the new Mr. Coffee is Friday afternoon. :frowning:

10xF today, where x= some number TWPTB can’t seem to compute. It will be over 100 and hopefully under 110. Yesterday we hit 103 instead of 106.

I have read all, but like Boo have been having issues and haven’t had the wherewithal to post much.

Hugs to Boo, congrats to Bumba on the move although I’m sure it’s bittersweet, Flyboy and JtC some places do have “good” paper straws so complain to those that don’t.

I’m thinking of y’all. Hugs to everyone.

Well, the universe decided to screw with us some more. Literally minutes before closing ‘the kids’’ funding source decided they needed another $25,000 and “oh, we’re raising your interest rate to 9%”. The kids are exploring alternate funding sources. We asked the flipper who was in second position how quickly they could close, but we’re waiting on the kids to see if they’ll still be able to make it work.
I want this to be over! :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Oh, and it’s currently 73f, heading for 87f. So at least we’ve got that going for us.

Wifey is still sleeping and I’m in front of her computer with a cup of half-caff trying to get caught up. We’ll see how that goes.

I was clerking in Smalls today.
The good: cooler, and a bit more intellectually stimulating.
The bad: Extra micromanagement from Captain Queeg.
Also, every time I see a blue pet company box, I get this stuck in my head:

Open the door wearing a hooded robe, then look backwards over your shoulder and yell "Azeroth, the sacrifices are here!

That sucks, Bumba. Hope somebody can figure it out.

   She probably would’ve followed me home, praying loudly. OTOH, she said God told her Mt. Rainier is gonna blow any time now, so maybe she’d just leave me to the lava.

Maybe it means vacuuming sucks, but not that much.

{{{{Sari}}}} I’m sorry your mother is being difficult. Don’t feel bad about being angry with her. She’s still alive and still causing trouble. Her poor prognosis doesn’t give her a free pass to damage others.

Also, {{{{Boo}}}}

JtC, they should make a Jane the Cane action figure. She’s Jane! She’s got a cane! She gives bad guys a pain! [Cane and criminals sold separately.]

I’m in favor of all the federal holidays, though we should officially change Columbus Day to something else. The US has no federally required vacation time, and we don’t get as many paid vacation days as most other countries, so 11 federal holidays doesn’t seem that bad. I guess I don’t understand what the big inconvenience is.

Stay cool, everyone!

Afternoon all. Dental appointment completed, I had the Doc doing the cleaning, apparently it wasn’t busy and she only had 2 assistants, so I got the personal treatment. Then drove a little out of my way to see where the new Buc-ee’s is going to be (if you don’t know about Buc-ee’s, google it; it’s a Texas-thing). Huge place that should be done about October. Then fixed myself a Ham-n-Cheeser and will shortly head over to the gym for swimmin’ and sauna, albeit it’s 98F now so not much sauna time needed…

Sari, she’s your Mom and desperately ill, but that doesn’t mean you just have to take her manipulation; deep breaths and call when you are ready. (NOTE: Nellie said it better).

Bumba, feel for the ‘kids’ in this financial climate, hope things work out for them.

Wheelie, Sumter is definitely a visiting point for me, along with some other Civil War sites. Just have to decide how many days and where to stay. And dog night at the ballpark sounds like a lot of fun.

Nettie, thanks for the info, I’ll look into it.

OK, need to don swimsuit and head on over to the gym. All y’all take care.
