‘If you feel useless today, Just remember that somebody is working as a lifeguard at the Olympics.’
Howdy Y’all! We had a brief sojourn to the cee-mint pond. It’s just too hawt to stay out long. We did N.O,L. at the not too shabby Chinese hog trough buffet and accomplished nappage. We know how to do retirement we does! Hope everyone has had a good day.
Sometimes, at a previous job, we’d do out to Blue Hair Buffet Hometown Buffet for lunch. One of my cow-orkers would say, ‘Buffet? *Ugh* Steaming troughs of food!’ (She went anyway.)
Done with grands till next week… unless they come to the marina to swim on Sat.
Rain is done, big ball of fire in sky. I took my car to the shop - with luck, I’ll get it back tomorrow.
Speaking of tomorrow, much boat work ahead. Still chasing wires. Good times…
I made a grilled cheese sammich for supper. Chillage shall now ensue.
I got some ground deadcow out of the freezer and put it in a pot to thaw. Thawed faster than I thought, and it’s not even 15:30 yet. Anyway I browned it with salt and ground pepper, added minced garlic, and then put in about half a pound of frozen broccoli. It’s sitting on the stove on ‘low’. That will be my dinner. The Spousal Unit will probably have yoghurt and popcorn.
Goo wants dinner, but she’s going to have to wait half an hour. Abbey is asleep next to me on the couch.
Just gave the cats their supper. Had to get Buddy out from under the bed to get him to his. Either it’s just a lot cooler under there, or he really disapproved of the landscaping guys being around today. Human dinner TBD.
oopsie, Mom didn’t sit elections either for about the last 20 years of her life. Growing up, the folks always discussed politics with us kids. In our living / dining room, there were pictures of the last supper, Mother Mary, the sacred heart of Jesus and JFK.
All of the above plus FDR at Mom’s parents’.
sari, I’m sorry that your mom’s playing games with y’all.
I’m sorry about your friend nellie. Hope that the itch gets gone soon.
Once your new doggy gets adjusted (and maybe even named), we’ll need pics sunny.
I LOL’d at the Arlo & Janis strip silenus.
doggio, Nelson’s favorite Willie song is Whiskey River.
As a kid, when we’d go to the county seat on Friday evenings to shop, there was usually a pit stop at the county courthouse basement, where I first encountered Chic tracts. Growing up RC, they seemed weird and scary to me.
TGIT! It was 101F when I got off irk today, but a cold front is supposed to come through Sunday and cool things down to the eighties for a couple of days. Tomorrow, I need to take the car in for an oil change and Saturday, I’ll go up to SIL’s to help celebrate her 69th birthday.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
I have a list of stuff I need to remember to bring to the convention. The convention in Tucson which just happens to be where GG’s breeder is. I’ve added carrier and pee pad to the list.
It was soooooo cute, they were so excited and pouncing up and down and pointing and laughing. ![]()
You were preaching to the choir my dear and I agreed with every word.
Hubs has surprised me though. I put a test kit where he could find it and he just used it without having to be reminded 97 times. After he tested positive, he told me that he was fed up with catching this shit every 6 months and asked me to look up when he should get his next booster.
I have made the well informed decision that his booster is going to happen as soon as he’s able to stay awake long enough to get dressed. Then he will go on the same schedule as me.
I’ve contacted GG’s breeder and he says that while he probably will have kittens available the end of July, he would be thrilled to take another deposit from me. I asked him if we could get a smart kitten this time and he gave me contact info for a breeder in Flagstaff, LOL!
Today was surplus produce day and I was briefly in possession of the only collard greens I’ve ever seen in the wild. I’ve never tasted them, so I tore of a piece off a leaf for a taste. Must be an acquired taste.
I didn’t know my BFF had COVID, so I picked up her box as well. Once I learned she was home with the plague, she lost her box because I didn’t want to expose myself to her as well as hubs. I’ve talked to the neighbors on the other side of the fence but we’ve never seen each other. I heard the kids outside making traditional mud pies so I drove my BFF’s box to their house, introduced myself and offered her the bounty. She was thrilled and I’m guessing she will be in line for her own box next week.
I also saw that someone I knew was having a yard sale so of course I went over to paw through her personal possessions. Yard sales are even more fun than open houses for nosy people like me.
She was selling a piece of petrified turtle poop for a buck and of course I had to have it so she showed me that she actually had two for sale. My Secret Santa better have a good sense of humor because I’m getting excited at the idea of sending poop through the mail for the first time in my life. The older one gets, the harder it is to find safe things to do for the first time.
Our produce included 4 cantaloupes. We like cantaloupe but not that much so we are going to see what we think about cantaloupe and strawberry gelato. This is one of the many reasons I wait half an hour in line for one of the mystery boxes. They make me think about how to use and preserve large to me amounts of fruit and veggies without any pre-planning.
Just wondering if you have looked into making yoghurt any more. My diner buyer asked me about adding it to my list of things she can order which tells me that she’s having problems getting it. After the group discussion, I tried making in our IP and it came out pretty yummy.
As a fellow RC I found them very disturbing as well, but because I was so young (I don’t think I was wearing bras yet) I was also very confused. I was the oldest of four and was born to be bossy. I didn’t think that it would be good for little kids (humpf) to see them so I took all I could find, but they were also words printed on paper, like books, so were too official to just throw away. It was best to just hide them in the back of a drawer where they couldn’t hurt anyone.
I understand now that my folks did good with me and I was instinctively reacting to protect my tribe from evil.
However, Cthulhu Chic tracs are a thing of beauty if you are a cultist. If you aren’t, they are still entertaining.
JtC, collards are best eaten cooked with a bit of pig and liberally sprinkled with pepper vinegar. Especially good as a side for a pot of beans (color of your choice) and a skillet of cornbread.
WRONG!
They need to be cooked with a lot of pig! Otherwise you were dead on.
No, I’ve had no time. Even on my two vacation days and this week’s holiday, I spent my time working.
Sounds good! What kind of deadpig? I always boil with the smoked deadpig tibia/fibula-to-metatarsal interface. If you do a sauté thing, I’d like to hear about it.
ETA:
Someone posted a picture of a cat named Jaxie in the Council of Cattos FB group. ‘Jacksie’? If I were British… *snerk* ![]()
I’m delighted to report that just as I was heading to the balcony with a book, a hummingbird discovered the fuchsia.
I was literally one second too late for a photo. I love hummingbirds and am thrilled whenever one drops in for a sip.
So Buddy spent most of the day under the bed, except when supper was served. I was sitting on the couch with the laptop doing a grocery order and here he comes very determinedly getting between the screen and my face. Did manage to get the order done, am now a cat bed.
Both my cats are at least occasionally prone to licking me. Allie has a MUCH scratchier tongue than Buddy does.
lol, so there’s a change in status eh?
we needed the rain from yesterday but we didn’t need the humidity today …
All of us have accepted the current reality that the household is now two humans, one bird, and two cats. ![]()
The humans are outnumbered.
well smaller than the 13 i grew up with
We had lots of pets when I was growing up, too. At one point seven assorted dogs (not sure how many cats at that point), at another twenty-one cats, fourteen of which were three litters of kittens born around the same time (probably at least four dogs at that point).
That’s how I ended up with 13 11 kittens in 2 litters (in 4 months )and the 2 parents …Felix and momma cat … when momma cat had what we thought was cancer and passed on a felix mourned himself to death …
Our first cat in our married life was Felix. Brown tabby, probably part Maine Coon based on appearance. Smartest cat I’ve ever had. We lost him to old age in 2011, at 18-19 years old. We couldn’t be sure of his exact age, since he was a shelter adoptee who’d been captured as a stray.
So this happened across the street from me tonight:
