New federal holiday in the MMP

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 50 degrees with an expected high of 71. Tomorrow’s high is 77 and Saturday we’re supposed to see 87 degrees. Things cool down again right after the weekend though.

I had another day filled with problems and “emergencies”, but I managed to get them all solved. Once again, I was fixing other people’s problems. Man, vacation just can’t get here soon enough. At some point today or tomorrow, I need to write up my third-quarter accomplishments. God, I hate writing that crap up. On top of that, I have some training that I need to get done today or tomorrow. I have several meetings on the agenda, plus some calls concerning moving contracts.

Before mail-in ballots became the only way to vote, I used to go to the polling stations to do so. When the kids were little, I took them with me because I felt it was important they see the process in action. I kind of miss it, but on the other hand, mail-in ballots are definitely more convenient. I usually drop them at the ballot drop box instead of mailing them.

I’m sorry about your friend’s passing, nellie.

Take care of yourself, sari. Your feelings are certainly justified.

Well, time to finish that coffee and get the kitchen tidied up before I start working.

Now my arm hurts. I guess it’s working.

Waiting for the call from the nurse ahead of my telemedicine appointment with the itch doctor ( :musical_note: ting, tang, walla-walla-bing-bang). I didn’t sleep too well, but it’s a gorgeous morning so far, so that’s nice. Our long spring is about over. It’ll be 90º on Sunday, so we’ll be joining the rest of the country in Sweatsville, which is not nearly as fun as Margaritaville.

My friend was only a few years older than I and in excellent shape. It was bacterial meningitis. I lost a student to that once: boy was in class despite a “sinus headache” on Wednesday, hospitalized Thursday, died on Saturday. It’s a swift and cruel disease.

Oopsie, I salute you for being an election worker. You’re a good person. My mom did this, too, and my sister still does it. I planned to do so after retirement, but I moved to a state with mail-in only. Now that I’m seeing a little better, maybe I can help, but I really wanted to be with voters. I miss voting in person. It was a thrill to see my fellow Americans voting. Yes, I’m that cheesy.

JtC, I love the neighbor’s new dog. Have you seen the neighbors lately? He looks…not hungry.

Oopsie Good for you for stepping up for election work.

Bumba sorry about the house sale. Real estate sucks. I’m sure it will all work out, but it’s always a slog.

I’m sorry to hear about your daughter’s godfather Nellie. My condolences.

sari sending :people_hugging:

 (I hope he can help.)

99F today. We had thunderstorms yesterday, and that may be the pattern for a while. I’ve nothing against the moisture, but the lightning is bad.

New dog is still unnamed. He sleeps on my son’s bed, but is still pretty twitchy. He’ll take a treat from me if I leave it next to him and turn my back. He will also let me scratch his head if I don’t look at him. My big dogs think he’s the Best! Thing! Ever! and really, really, really, really, really want to meet him, and he very much doesn’t. We’ll work up to that.

Happy Thursday everyone.

Finally convinced the front office that 78 degrees in the apartment is not appropriate when the AC thermostat is turned all the way down and the fan is on high. If we didn’t have fans, the place would be an oven. So the maintenance dude checked and sure enough the roof unit needs a freon charge. A technician is up there now.

Putting together a rather complicated etagere in the living room today. This one to be exact.

I got a kick out of Arlo & Janis this morning. You people are the only ones I know who will get/appreciate it.

And yet my feet must be killed with extreme prejudice. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

That goes without saying.

I started my employment with the County as a temporary worker in the elections department. After the election, the County didn’t want to lose me so transferred me to Records Management with the agreement that I would work all elections while I was employed with them. I worked three biggies (Presidential) and countless little ones.

Presidential elections always reminded me of prepping for a large, expensive wedding for a bridezilla, or like a herd of flag colored cats that we had to get to stand in line at a certain time and date.

I’m sorry you lost a friend, nellie.

Dino is a permanent resident, he moved in over the weekend. It’s a head taller than I am and neighbor had to use concrete and rebar to keep it upright. I entertained myself on Monday by parking myself on the front porch so I could watch the kids in the school bus as it drove by.

I think hubs has COVID again. He’s acting just like he did both other times. He’s vaxxed but kept finding reasons to not get boosted until I forgot to keep on him about it. Dang it.

I don’t get it….

You don’t have cats, do you?

We once had a mouse problem and the way I figured it out was the mouse dookies in the cat fud bowl.

ETA It looks like I can’t have lunch with BFF because she also has COVID. She’s vaxxed but not boosted. I’m vaxxed and double boosted and just tested negative. Coincidence? I think not!

Another day, another mellow harshed by Captain Queeg. But I got my old person discount at Harris Teeter. So I got that going for me. Which is nice.

Alpaca!

That’s pretty my my little Federale right there(Not sure if Alex likes Willie or not).

My girls like Emmylou.

Itch doctor said I should stay on the high doses of antihistamines until after the next round of injections on July 5th. She’s hopeful the injections will help. Otherwise, it’s the Devil’s Drug (prednisone) for me. :scream: I solemnly swear that I will never, ever miss another injection! I wouldn’t have missed the May doses if I hadn’t been told it’d be no big deal to skip one (not by this doc).

I was uncomfortable the whole session because I’m so camera-shy. Also, my phone camera makes me look like a Smurf.

quietly, that cracked me up. I’m going to share with my daughter, who has two cats and will also appreciate it.

Oh, no! COVID seems to be wildly attracted to him. :frowning: I hope it’s not too bad a case. I’m so glad you’re vaxxed and fully boosted.

uh oh new kitty time…playmate for gg?

actually, my cats were pretty good mousers …but they were the playful type…chase them catch them smack them around like their cat toys let them go, and repeat …but they’d get so pissed when we disposed of them . after they let it go the 3rd time …

So, nellie, you told the Itch Doctor and she told you what too do… (now I can’t get that ^&^&*% song out of my head…).

I would have loved to be sitting next to you.

Cookie, glad you could get that put together. Bought something like that from Wal-Mart years ago and after 4 hours tossed it away in disgust.

SInce I didn’t get all my swimming laps in Yesterday, I’m going for the Marathon in biking today, but have to do it in 3 steps (8.7/8.7/8.8=26.2 miles), so step 1 is done and step 2 will be in a couple hours, with step 3 after dinner. Also bought a new shredder, a big heavy-duty one (with a heavy-duty price tag) from Staples, so need to get that unpacked and set up.

Onward!

It’s 101° here in Savannah with a heat index of 106. Don’t plan to do much walking here; probably grab a beer near the hotel and then Uber to the ballpark. Supposed to drop all the way down to 89 by game time.

Had a nice swim yesterday in Charleston, then pretty much a repeat of the previous night, except fewer bars because we knew which ones we wanted to visit again.

Done with the Carolinas for this trip. They were good to us.

Time to put down another deposit on a kitten (or tell hubs you have). Don’t cancel this deposit til you have proof he has gotten boosted. He wiggled out of the last one. And look what happened.

Has he tested positive? You need to know + or - just so the booster can be timed right. I’m sure the CDC website has a poster about the timing of boosters after you’ve had a bout of Covid. I just can’t remember what that interval is.

Or lock up his new beer-making equipment til he’s tested and boosted according to their best practices. And him exposing you to Covid by bringing it home ain’t fair or loving.

And I’m going to shut up now.

Breakfast, earlier, was a scrambled egg, two cut-up heat’n’serve chicken breakfast links cooked in the egg, cheddar cheese, and Tabasco on a low-carb tortilla.

Just got back from my ‘lunch’ – four laps around the park.

‘Officially’, I walked 2.70 miles in 53 minutes, 30 seconds for an average speed of 3.03 mph.

I say ‘officially’ because I use MapMyWalk, which I’ve always used since I started walking. My other tracker is Woof Trax. It says I walked 2.67 miles in 53:40 (I always start it first) for 2.99 mph. It’s probably closer on the distance, but it’s a small difference. Somehow (I’m not sure how) @TheNOAHCenter gets donations for my walks. Woof Trax says I’ve walked 65.2 miles over 32 walks.

@JaneDoe42

The CDC website was useless for finding the appropriate answer. And they why Americans don’t follow their advice. Sheesh. It’s like trying to herd teenaged cats helped up on double espresso.

I did find this in the New York Times which actually answers the question in relatively plain English. It’s gifted so let me know if it doesn’t open for you. The CDC needs to hire some NYT writers-we’d all be a lot better off.

Good luck with hubs. My beloved sister’s husband is the same way. We got him vaxxed but boosters have remained elusive. Lots of waffling and wriggling. Lysistrata may have had the best idea.
