New Florida Senate bill would eliminate state Democratic Party

A newly filed bill would eliminate any Florida political party that has previously platformed in favor of slavery or indentured servitude, so… Yeah.

It’s actually been named the Ultimate Cancel Act.

From article:

A good segment (do I need to say who?) aren’t, dont plan to, and actually wouldn’t bat too much of an eye (other than rejoicing) if this UCA silliness somehow got enacted.

“For years now, leftist activists have been trying to “cancel” people and companies for things they have said or done in the past. This includes the removal of statues and memorials, and the renaming of buildings. Using this standard, it would be hypocritical not to cancel the Democrat Party itself for the same reason,” explained Sen. Ingoglia.

If anyone wants to see what a temper tantrum looks like when thrown by a grown man, this is it.

Are they going to make it impossible to form new political parties too? Maybe they’ll require a bunch of signatures to get on the ballot the next time, but that shouldn’t be an issue unless they also change the laws to basically outlaw new political parties.

Who cares?

This sort of thing is purely performative and I don’t see how it could have any real effects. Which makes it essentially the same as the whole “Democrat Party” thing. Which is to say, juvenile, pointless and intended to rile up morons.

Any consumers of this sort of idiocy is already voting for Republicans, and anyone else shouldn’t care except to sigh and think, “Ah, thanks - yet another reason not to vote for these fools.”

Golly… so many words come to mind.

Unconstitutional? Open Rebellion? New “White Sands” testing grounds?

Impoundment w/o due process of any/all Traitor State assets?

Imprisonment and permanent loss of citizenship for all elected GOP Florida officials?

A Presidentially Appointed governor, Congressperson ( one ), and Senator ( one ) for 20+ years?

Expulsion from Congress of all Traitor politicians under the 14th Amendment, Section 3?

Under this court? I’m not taking that bet.

One would have to guess that they simply missed this,
Thirteenth Amendment, Section 1: Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
Unless they are not in fact supporters of the Constitution?

I care.

Sure, this may be too crazy but the “what is crazy” envelope has been pushed further than I ever thought possible over the past ~30+ years. We have already seen the road the Supreme Court is willing to go down with the crazy in decisions like Citizens United (and more). Conservatives keep throwing shit at the wall and seeing what will stick.

A strategy of SUPER crazy so you (general “you”) think the merely crazy is ok seems to be working.

Before the 13th Amendment, the Republican Party of the mid-19th century harbored the abolitionists and the Democrats were their opposition.

Of course, you can find instances of Republicans advocating for slavery much more recent than that.

Yes, plenty of time to amend the Amendment of the involuntary servitude language they, now, seem to care so much about.

Since Republicans are so fixated on race and whiteness, maybe we could go the extra yard and ban from politics anyone of a race that ever was in favor of slavery.

I think the point is, with this qualifier:

everyone who’s ever said they “support the Constitution” has “advocated for slavery or indentured servitude” under at least some conditions.

So it really is the Ultimate Cancel Act. You’ll just have to reboot your entire society, I guess.

Hi kiddies, can you say Ex Post Facto?

Performative stunt bills are being introduced by the thousands every year. They’re cause for concern but seldom make it into law.

The “who the fuck cares what Florida does” idea doesn’t wash with me, when the governor of Florida is a front-runner for the Republican nomination to the presidential election, and there is a possibility that he’ll be the next POTUS.

If Ron DeSantis is nodding along, saying, “Good idea fellas.” Imagine what kind of shit he might try to pull in the White House.

Now, if this is just one nutjob in the Florida Senate, proposing some stupid unsupported shit like Marjorie Taylor Greene in the big House proposing that the US ban chocolate ice cream for being racist or whatever her antisemitic paranoid lima bean of a mind comes up with next, then okay, point and laugh. But if this is at all given support by the likes of Ronnie the Immigrant Dumper, then yeah, I have concerns.

I guess it escaped their notice that the people honored by those statues and buildings were mostly Democrats. The same morons believe the modern Republican Party is still the party of Lincoln.

So, keep throwing shit at the wall and some will stick.

Over time that adds up.

The wall is getting hard to clean.

Hey, do you have any idea of how hard it is to out-crazy your fellow wingnuts these days? You need to work on your insanity eight days a week and endure a hard day’s night. Sisyphus didn’t have it so hard. Getting so crazy that it makes the Dope is like an amateur sending in jokes to a late-night show. Only one in a million get through. Our hats should go off to Blaise Ingoglia aka @GovGoneWild. If it weren’t for people like him, we might somehow forget what the Republican Party has turned into and just ignore next year’s election entirely.
