I quit yesterday.
Of the 4 offers I had, boy did I pick the wrong one! Seemed like the best “on paper”, with the best benefits, holiday, sick and vacation time, closest to home and the most money to boot!
What a stinker! Dismal place with dismal people. But the kicker was the software. Now, I know I could do each and every thing they needed me to do. I have AP/AR, purchasing/recieving, credit/collections- and a host of other skills for office administration- but what they need is a key-punching monkey!
The MRP system they were “using” was obsolete the year I was a freshman in college (1984).
It took 800+ keystrokes to do the simplist of operations. It was a real resume blot type of position. Anyway, it hurts my head to even think about the crap this job was. Even worse, was the 4 other guys who had worked there for years, didn’t know a single thing about the “software” and were no help at all, and with no training on a system that was last updated in 1989 ( the business went under in 1989), I was thrown into it with a “this is YOUR job now, you figure it out” and they all went out back and smoked. And smoked. And smoked some more. God, these guys reeked.
Actually, the smoking was enough to make me quit anyway.
So, I salvaged one of the other job offers and I start a week from monday. I really blew it and should have taken the one I thought was best to start with, but that choice was gone and am stuck with “third choice”.
Gotta be better than the one I took. If not, I’ll quit again.
If it weren’t for that trust fund income, I’d be REALLY screwed
