NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 1)

Scrooge was right BEFORE visited by the Ghosts, says Wall Street Journal editorial

This apparently really is for real. I can’t read the paywalled article, though
And Daily Kos shouldn’t have used an image of Uncle Scrooge to illustrate it – Uncle Scrooge actually occasionally did philanthropic works.

I think the editors of the WSJ have not actually read the original Dickens:

“Are there no prisons?” asked Scrooge.

“Plenty of prisons,” said the gentleman, laying down the pen again.

“And the Union workhouses?” demanded Scrooge. “Are they still in operation?”

“They are. Still,” returned the gentleman, “I wish I could say they were not.”

“The Treadmill and the Poor Law are in full vigour, then?” said Scrooge.

“Both very busy, sir.”

“Oh! I was afraid, from what you said at first, that something had occurred to stop them in their useful course,” said Scrooge. “I’m very glad to hear it.”

“Under the impression that they scarcely furnish Christian cheer of mind or body to the multitude,” returned the gentleman, “a few of us are endeavouring to raise a fund to buy the Poor some meat and drink, and means of warmth. We choose this time, because it is a time, of all others, when Want is keenly felt, and Abundance rejoices. What shall I put you down for?”

“Nothing!” Scrooge replied.

“You wish to be anonymous?”

“I wish to be left alone,” said Scrooge. “Since you ask me what I wish, gentlemen, that is my answer. I don’t make merry myself at Christmas and I can’t afford to make idle people merry. I help to support the establishments I have mentioned: they cost enough: and those who are badly off must go there.”

“Many can’t go there; and many would rather die.”

“If they would rather die,” said Scrooge, “they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.”

The Republican Wall Street Journal edition has that section removed.

It’s not like the GOP haven’t been advocating policies and ideas that have resulted in a reduction in the “surplus population” lately.

The most ridiculous thing is that Scrooge wasn’t even in a business that created jobs. He was a moneylender; he was almost like the 19th century version of a payday loan shop.

The only job he created was Bob Cratchett’s, and he paid Bob pauper’s wages.

What, Depends won’t hack it?

Dan

Yeah, every so often the plutocrats try to pull the damage control car whenever they feel butthurt at their greed being taken to task. I’ve seen this same kind of rankling by their ilk on Christmas and also labor day mostly. Christmas for the obvious reason stated here, and on labor day, where if he were around today, would be churlish at the thought of honoring Bob Cratchit on labor day.

They’re like the indignant kid knowing of mother’s day/father’s day and asking why there isn’t any “kid’s day” and irritated when told “every day is kid’s day”. Every day is “capital day”.

Fuck Phil Gramm sideways with a teddybear cholla.

?

Just so I don’t have to google Mr. Gramm and a cholla…

Oh, some pics of sideways fuçking would be handy, too.

A move like that would take big, big cojones. Mr. Pence’s cojones are in mother’s purse, in a contact lense case. He will be unable to deliver the goods.

Well put.

Pence is a coward. And he’s screwed. He can’t do anything on January 6 other than blubber ineffectually. And Trump will throw him under the bus.

If he was at all smart, he’ll stay in bed on Jan 6, hiding under the covers.

FoxNews has made one of their predictable “mistakes,” putting a photo of a black man (an employee) next to its stories on the white Nashville bomber.

This tweet is from several hours back, but I just input the name of the bomber (Anthony Quinn Warner) into Google search and sure enough, the fourth highest image result is FoxNew’s black employee!!

Funny how these Fox News “errors” always trash the reputations of Democrats or people of color…

More wonderfully bad Trump art

This isn’t, despite the headline, “the most disturbing artwork you will see”, but it is notably bad and outrageous

I think the “MAGA” hat in place of the “INRI” scroll is the best touch.

The American Antichrist. As I said in another thread…

‘Chris Hayes noted that the most attractive aspect of Christianity is the existence of Hell. And, honestly, I consider Trump’s followers… especially the ‘Christian’ followers… to be nothing more than apostates who have damned their souls to Hell.’

I’ve been referring to him as such since 2016 and there has been nothing since which caused me to think this analogy failed.

From the comments.

What else would you expect from a pair of MAGAts?

Be hilarious to see that one hanging next to the one Ben Carson has of him and Jesus chilling.

Hey Don, thanks for filling in for me while I hang with Ben!

Crazy Louie Gohmert and Crazy Kelli Ward are suing Mike Pence to force him to declare Individual 1 the winner on January 6.

By that theory, someone should have sued Al Gore in December 2000 to force him to choose Democratic electors so that Al Gore won the election.

Prognostications about the next “two weeks” Jan 6th event in DC.

DumpsterFire has asked the “usual suspects” to show up; proud boys, american nazies, white supremacists, but specifically told Eric to stay away.

  1. The millions of supporters will sway the congress critters to overturn the election and award DunpsterFire a Noble prize, Time Man of the Year, and yet another Michigan Man of the Year.

or

  1. The supporters will assault the Halls of Congress, “forcing” DumpsterFire to declare a National Emergency, Marital (sp) law, and requiring him to take the reins of power indefinitely.

I’m hoping for a massive blizzard with whiteout conditions for that time period stranding the supporters in the wilds of Virginia and Maryland and preventing their arrival in DC. “Uh Steve, two inches of flurries is sufficient to cause the collapse of civilization in DC most times.”
