NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 1)

Gym Jordan took to Twitter today to suggest that the Founding Fathers wouldn’t have approved of covid shutdowns.

He got promptly schooled by people pointing out that George Washington personally oversaw quarantines during the smallpox outbreaks of the 1770s.

I liked the take I saw on Facebook:

"60 million Americans are subject to a stay at home order or curfew.

11 million are right here in Ohio.

What would the Founders say?"

“What’s “Ohio”?”

I kind of like the artist’s rendering of Nancy Pelosi though.

Is Walmart about to become the next Harley Davidson, the next American brand to enrage MAGA world?

Somebody is about to lose their job.

“Didn’t you look the other way while the doctor of the wrestling team you were coaching was fondling the players? And, accordingly, ought not you to shut the fuck up?”

Some Twitter users have since called for boycotting the retail giant in response to the comment to the senator. -

Let’s hear some more about the “cancel culture” of The Far Left.

McConnell says he’s combining the $2000 checks with an election fraud commission and stripping of legal protection from social media sites.

So we all spend money on another pointless investigation, limit corporate liability but, hey, free bucks?? If you ever need to see an example of blackmailing…

Worse, the Feds have no business in overseeing or investigating any part of our election process. These are matters to be handled by individual states. The federal government ought not become involved in any way except at the behest of state authorities.

Talk about a camel’s nose under the tent.

Republicans are trying to normalize federal intervention into elections.

What about the voting rights act?

WHAT Voting Rights Act? The Supremes have pretty well gutted that.

I should have stated it more clearly. Republicans are trying to normalize congressional intervention into elections.

There is a world of difference between Congress enacting legislation that guarantees general rights to voters and grants access to courts for voters to remedy unjust voter suppression, vs. enacting legislation that gives Congress itself the right to investigate “election fraud in 2020,” as stated by Mitch McConnell (of which there was virtually none).

I hope I am not the only one who can discern the difference between these two types of legislation. If I am, then we are in deep shit indeed.

I was gonna put this in the American Coup thread but then I realized it was really more ranty than anything else:

Nebraska’s Ben Sasse speaks up:

Hey; lemme introduce you to a namesake, Senator Sasse: Benghazi. “Benghazi!”

Seriously, where the fuck has this guy been for the past 15 years that he thinks he can get away with saying that? Does he think if he says 2 true things he can say one false thing with impunity; is that it?

Republicans don’t get to moralize to me for at least 20 years now; fuck right off.

You too, Marco Rubio.

Jake Tapper of CNN is reporting that at least 140 Republican House members will vote against certifying the Electoral votes.

This does not sound stupid to me. IOW totally out of character for Graham-- he’s not only defying Mitch but suggesting something reasonable. Sure, he’s sucking up to trump, but this actually seems like a good and workable idea. Am I missing something? Will Mitch have his head on a platter for this?

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Thursday called for a stand-alone vote in the Senate on a House-passed bill for $2,000 coronavirus relief payments. In doing so, Graham broke from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who has drawn bipartisan backlash for refusing to bring the measure to a vote.

McConnell said Wednesday that there’s “no realistic path to quickly” pass the proposed legislation to boost the $600 stimulus checks outlined in the most recent COVID-19 relief package to $2,000 for every eligible American.

“I think if you had a standalone vote on the $2,000 check, it might pass,” Graham said during an appearance on “Fox & Friends” on Thursday.

He’s just doing that GOP senator thing where you say something that seems like it runs against the party line but since Mitch will never let it get to a vote you won’t ever have to actually vote against the party line.

IOW pissing in the wind. That makes sense.

The Governor of Ohio, who tries to pretend that he’s one of the good Republicans, just signed a bill requiring women to choose to have her aborted fetus buried or cremated.

So, is “jammed up Mike DeWine” not an option?
