“We probably could have had a swearing-in and inauguration later after we got this virus behind us a little bit,” Tuberville suggested in an interview with a local TV station. “Again, we’re talking about Washington, DC.”
“Our government wasn’t set up for one group to have all three branches of government — wasn’t set up that way,” Tuberville said, adding: “You know, the House, the Senate, and the executive.”
Apropos of Tuberville, is anybody else plagued by a sort of mental tic that insists on translating any reference to his name into “Thomas Potatopolis”?
On the other hand, she was elected as only one of many Members of the House from NYS, while Tuberville is only one of two senators from Alabama. I’d expect the senators to be a bit more on the ball.
I start with the premise that they will always be with us and are “natural”, as in they are expressing a set of innate human traits that are strong in them: the need for a strong leader to tell them what to do/how to think, the need for simple myths, the need for identifiable enemies, and the need to physically act in support of their beliefs. What we need are productive-ish outlets for them to be themselves.
Just spitballing here, but in a simplistic view previous generations had more armed conflicts (wars, invasions, etc.) as an outlet for these type of drives. Without those avenues, it could be said that these types of individuals end up focusing their aggression “inward” into society.
Yeah, but some people are not doing their job. It is pretty clear that they are not even trying. Dragging us down, even. What are we supposed to do, fire at them?
Yes, even though “Potatopolis” has a nice, sophisticated sound, as Harrison Ford so famously may have said, “you can write this stuff, but you can’t say it.” I mean, I want to run it together - potatoplis, or stretch it out too much - potato~opolis. It just doesn’t flow. It doesn’t SING!
