NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 1)

And they don’t stop!

Lauren Boebert claims Texas hasn’t had a covid death since Abbott lifted the mask requirement. Even the state’s own statistics show over 3500 people have died from it.

Qevin MqQarthy holds a press conference about the mean Democrats who want to investigate the attack on the Capitol
Reporter: "Are you absolutely certain that none of your members were in any communication with any of the people who stormed Capitol Hill?” MqQ: “goodbye.”

Tennessee has passed a law requiring businesses to post signs “warning” the public if trans people are allowed to use the bathroom.

This law, I’m willing to bet, is on a fast track to a federal lawsuit, and there’s a half-decent chance that it will be struck down as unconstitutionally compelled speech.

A few years ago, the Supreme Court basically ruled unconstitutional a California law requiring so-called crisis pregnancy centers to post notices making clear whether or not they were licensed medical facilities, and informing customers that the sate provides free or low-cost access to family planning services, including contraception and abortion.

California passed the law because most of these crisis pregnancy centers are Christian-run organizations whose main aim is to prevent pregnant women from getting abortions, and many uneducated and low-income Californians go to these centers thinking that they are regular reproductive health facilities.

The law was essentially passed with the aim of compelling these clinics to be honest about what they are, and are not, but the Supreme Court struck it down 5-4, and that was back when Ginsburg was still on the court.

If the state can’t force a clinic to post signs about whether or not it’s actually a licensed medical facility, then surely a state can’t force a business to post warning signs about who might be in the bathroom. Although, with this Supreme Court, you never know.

Andrew Guiliani, who is running for Governor of New York, claims he has been in government for 50 decades. He’s 35 years old. His former government experience was as Individual 1’s liaison to sports teams who wanted to visit the White House. His previous job was as a pro golfer.

Why yes, Tucky-Tuck. It would be just terrible if the police had a political agenda that was at odds with the people they protect and were wont to threaten elected officials of they didn’t get their way.

Good thing that never happens in this country, right?

So he was in charge of picking up the hamberders, then.

Oops, I meant 5 decades.

Well…from a certain point of view…
He was born in 86 and he’s been around his dad (who’s been in politics since way before then) his whole life. So he’s “been in” politics in the 80’s, 90’s, 00’s, 10’s and 20’s. That’s five decades…from his point of view…

Republican = scum.

Pigs.

Republicans are deformed cicadas.

Wait, no, that’s too kind.

What the fuck are they, then?

Radioactive waste?

p.s. Ravenman, where the fuck are you? You were telling me to chill out, how you knew Republicans, and how there was a way to be rational with rabid fruit bats.

Come on out, coward!

On one of my random byzantine sojourns about the internets, I landed on a video, a clip of a movie in which the actor playing Welch uttered the famous line, “have you no sense of decency, at long last, Senator, have you no sense of decency?

Yes, those were Rs he was addressing, and yes, they were on an unspeakably vile crusade championed by a drunk who had no skills, personality or measurable intellect so he fell back on outspoken assholery and baseless accusations.

The problem is that we stand on the same precipice, facing the opposite way. Republicans seek to destabilize/destroy the US to the same (or greater) extent as the pinkos sought in the mid 20th. In most ways, the R agenda is far worse than what was reviled as “communism” back in the day.

Our passion and anger could possibly drive us to HUAC-levels of enmity directed at them. And perhaps they would genuinely deserve it even more. But it is a dangerous path that we need to avoid, or to tread very cautiously its edges.

I want them punished. They need to be punished. But we absolutely must not go looking like vindictive monsters in the process.

I would really be interested in how you come to believe this, not necessarily about the Republicans, but the assertion the Left was as equal a threat to American democracy in the 1950s as the Right is in the Trump era.

If they get another chance, they’ll tear the first amendment to shreds.

The only reason “HUAC-levels of enmity” were inappropriate back in the day is that they were predicated upon dubious if not outright concocted allegations of sedition. Such reactions are perfectly proper in response to clear and unmistakable sedition such as the case currently before us.

No, you were right the first time. He was including his past lives. In Transylvania.

Ha! My bodyguards know not to mess with me lest they feel the sting of my lash!

Oops. I meant my lashes – I just bat my eyes coyly at them and they get right back in line.

ETA: Just noticed that today is my cake day. I joined in 2010. Only 11 years ago – seems much longer. In a good way. Now I want cake.

I tried that once. They all quit.

Happy Cake Day!
