“Destabilize the country” means a different thing from the RW perspective than it does from the LW perspective. The “communists” represented a threat to the “bourgeois hierarchy” which, in the American context, meant “we want you to behave responsibly”. It was a “danger” to the feudocapitalist peerage, which we are taught is fundamental to the proper functioning of our society (a questionable Objectivist ethos, IMO).
The right wing is pursuing a full-on glibertarian agenda which seeks to strip away all government cruft that constrains the industrial/financial peerage while retaining the elements that protect them and their wealth acquisition, which amounts to destabilization from the opposite vector (making conditions worse from the bottom up).
The Left was never really a significant threat to democracy inasmuch as they never had substantial access to the workings of the system. The Right is a real threat to democracy because they have established access to the system and democracy is becoming a nuisance to them, so they are trying to tweak it to make it return the desired results. I am not sure what the real Left, upon gaining the same level of control, would be doing about the system, but it seems less likely that they would be as focused on manipulating democracy so extremely because the Left, from what I have seen, trends more genuinely egalitarian than does the Right.
The guy who is running against Liz Cheney in the Republican primary is state Senator Anthony Bouchard. When Bouchard was 18, he impregnated a 14 year old girl, then married her when she was 15. They divorced three years later. I have to wonder if she got too old for him. Some time later, after remarrying, she committed suicide.
I think that an 18 year old and a 14 year old is statutory rape in any state.
