NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 1)

Profits [unknown what %] go to a charity called Shadow Warriors Project. Great, supporting veterans. Perhaps - Hmm, not exactly warriors according to their website:

“Shadow Warriors Project is a foundation dedicated to the support of private military security contractors, conducting paramilitary security operations in some of the world’s most dangerous areas.”

Oh, won’t someone think of the mercenaries!

Arizona is reviewing possible alternatives to lethal injection, one of which is the chamber. They are looking at using HCN, which you might know by its eversopopular trade name Zyklon B.

Fuck the children. The higher priority is giving Biden a hard time.

https://www.expressnews.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Texas-governor-bars-facilities-from-housing-16219796.php

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott moved Tuesday to prohibit state-licensed childcare facilities from housing migrants who are living in the country illegally, a step that could leave the federal government scrambling to find shelter for thousands of unaccompanied young people.

In an order criticizing the Biden administration, the Republican governor directed state regulators to begin revoking licenses for the facilities later this summer, saying he refuses to help solve a border crisis that he didn’t create.

Right. It’s just a “border crisis.” There are no actual flesh-and-blood human beings involved. Oh, wait. Foreign kids aren’t human beings.

However, if they were fetuses, they would have all the protection in the world. Dumb kids-- they went and got born-ded. Now they don’t matter.

Hope Frye, a California immigration lawyer who has served as a monitor for the Flores agreement — a 1997 court settlement regarding the detention of immigrant children — said what Abbott intends to do is take 4,000 children from licensed shelters and potentially force the federal government to put them in unlicensed emergency shelters such as the Freeman Coliseum, Lackland and at Fort Bliss in El Paso.

“In my opinion, what the governor is doing is basically condoning child abuse,” said Frye, who also is a partner in nonprofits ReUnite and Project Lifeline, aimed at helping immigrant children. “He’s basically fostering the thing he said was so terrible. What he’s doing doesn’t make any sense. It’s just political posturing.”

My bold.

The important thing is that it makes Biden look weak, ineffectual, and just bad. That’s all that matters. Child abuse? I don’t think so-- these aren’t children like our (white) children. They’re illegal, FFS!

Until recently, Republicans had been directing their criticism at crowded conditions in Border Patrol facilities.

The administration has been standing up new shelters run by HHS and sending many of the children to the state-licensed facilities Abbott is now targeting. As of Tuesday, there were 546 children in Border Patrol facilities, down from 5,381 at the beginning of April.

Hell, let’s just turn them out into the street and then outlaw homelessness – win-win! That will smear egg all over Sleepy Joe’s face!

While harming Biden is certainly a priority, it’s not a trade-off of priorities, as they want to harm these children as well.

Good point. Not to mention piss off the libruls. Gotta hand it to Greg for gettin’ 'er done!

Because if it isn’t just like Auschwitz, it doesn’t count?

I agree with everything you say here, but it is only part of the “fuck the already born children” attitude in Texas government. Child Protective Services (CPS), which has been in front of U.S. District Judge Janis Jack for quite some time now for it’s poor handling of the foster care system, is greatly underfunded. And, our valiant legislators somehow neglected to fix the system in the session that just ended. They did, however, find time to allow anyone to openly carry a gun just because they want to, and they spent a lot of time trying to limit voting rights. They even found time to argue about whether trans children should be allowed to participate in sports, but somehow the pro-child party was unable to squeeze in any time to protect the most vulnerable children. Can’t imagine how that managed to slip their minds.

And if we have something like Auschwitz, it’s far too late, and we should have done something quite a while ago, back when people were saying that there was nothing wrong because we don’t have an Auschwitz yet.

I think this zycon B thing is a bit of a red herring. Until they fell out of use, all of the gas chambers used in the US used HCN. So Arizona isn’t being particularly more Nazi than 1993 California.

ETA: just of the record I’m anti death penalty and think that the HCN gas method seems particularly barbaric, but not just because it happens to be what the Nazi’s used.

You are 100% correct.

And they didn’t fix the energy grid problem either, so we can expect long hours of quiet, frozen, internet-free darkness come this winter. 'Cause they only meet every other year, don’tcha know.

Speaking of that, Bergen-Belsen Barbie decided it would be a good idea to sell “not vaccinated” shirt patches/stickers in the form of a yellow mogen david (six-point star).

That went well.

Seems to be piggybacking off a name close to the Wounded Warrior Project:

which is legit and has a good rep among the political right, but doesn’t have as high a ranking in Charity Navigator as Disabled American Veterans.

On Charity Navigator, the address for this “Shadow Warriors Project” is a Postal Annex store in Monument, CO, and the full title of the charity is “SWP Inc dba Shadow Warriors Project”. No ranking, as it’s only filed one Form 990 electronically.

On SWP INC - Colorado Company, the same address is given, with “Mark Geist” listed as the corporate agent.

On the whole, not the type of charity I’d deal with.

Well, since it’s popular with conservatives Runyon’s Law says to consider it as some sort of grift until proven otherwise.
e.g. Conservative Majority Fund, We Build the Wall, and Stop the Steal.

DeSantis just vetoed funding for mental health care for the survivors of the Pulse nightclub shooting and for shelters for homeless youth.

The every other year thing is both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, it’s two more years before they might fix the energy grid. On the other hand, the less time they spend in session, the less things they mess up. Also, it gives time for the outrage du jour to die down. Two years ago, Dan Patrick’s bathroom bill was the only thing standing between civilized Texas and anarchy(*). Fortunately, Speaker Joe Straus took the bill out behind the Capitol building and humanely and compassionately euthanized it. This year, didn’t hear a word about bathrooms. Hopefully, two years from now we won’t hear anything about trans-athletes because the GOP base will have moved on to a new flavor of raw meat(**).

(*) This sentence has been seasoned with sarcasm and contempt. Bon apetit.
(**) Now in QAnon flavor with crunchy bits of conspiracy theory. Mmm-mmm. That’s good eatin’.

Lauren Boebert is being dragged for criticizing Biden for the cybersecurity attack on the meat packing plants. Does she want the federal government to take over cybersecurity from all private companies, even private companies whose headquarters is in Brazil?

Rudy Giuliani is doing My Pillow ads during his hour-long YouTube video on UFOs.
