I just thought it would be a good fit there. You can’t keep up with all the threads!
I didn’t take it as a critique at all. I was lamenting that I haven’t developed a method for keeping up with posts. I look at “new” and “latest” posts, but stuff that I’d like to have known about still gets past me. I don’t remember how I used to do it on the old board. The old board is now a vague, distant memory… like what I did last week…

What a fucking horrible mother.
She probably has raised them with the awareness that police are more likely to pull them over, confront them, challenge them, dismiss them as liars, and shoot first ask questions later. I’ve read articles by white mothers of Black sons (and daughters, too) that the Black kids have to constantly monitor their own behavior so as not to draw the attention of police. And if they are caught in a confrontation with cops, no matter how benign the situation, to be mild-mannered, acquiescent, subservient even… or risk getting hauled off to jail or worse.
I read an article recently (I don’t remember where) about a Black teenaged girl who had been warned by her mother about such things, but she didn’t believe mom. Til she went shopping with a white teenager who helped herself to some items without paying for them. As they left the store, they were stopped and the police called. The police assumed the Black girl was the shoplifter and didn’t say one word to the white girl. It ended when a store employee ran up and said she had seen the white girl steal the stuff. The Black girl was shaken to her core and realized that this was the world she lived in and was going to be living in. She would not be given the benefit of the doubt.
And that is the reality of the situation that a child needs to be aware of.

That’s an acceptable awareness.
That she got in front of the nation and said that the police actions were justified due to her son’s skin color is not. That’s horrendous.
Given that she would call him out on national TV like this, I cannot imagine that she doesn’t also treat him differently than her white sons as well. I don’t think that she was willing to give her own son the benefit of the doubt.

ETA: A whole lotta other stupid she said too. Is she the same one who said females shouldn’t be allowed to vote, but the male head of the family should vote for the whole family? Was that her?

Up and coming young Republican candidate Madison Cawthorn made a speech at the convention where he said, “George Washington was 21 when he received his first military commission. Abe Lincoln — 22 when he first ran for office. And my personal favorite, James Madison was just 25 years old when he signed the Declaration of Independence.”.
Wahshington was 20. Lincoln was 23. Madison didn’t sign the Declaration of Independence.
Cawthorn also had to remove a photo from his social media of his visit to the Hitler headquarters at the Eagle’s Nest, which he said had been on his bucket list.

Note that there is a lot of bullshit behind this Madison Cawthorn dude. Like his campaign website says he was “nominated to the U.S. Naval Academy by Rep. Mark Meadows in 2014”, except he was rejected for admission to the school. And there’s more; see this piece from Jezebel about him.
