Meghan McCain’s husband, the publisher of the Federalist:
“President Donald Trump would have gotten every single American, interpreter, and piece of equipment out of Afghanistan. The man understood optics. The media’s kid glove treatment of Biden enabled this disaster.”
I wonder how his wife feels about his praising the guy who made nasty comments about her sainted father.
Fuck that guy and his ‘optics’. We’re talking about fighting an enemy for 20 years, 2,000 Americans dead, 20,000 wounded, and once we leave, the Taliban took over Afghanistan in a week, and this worthless sack of crap is complaining about optics.
Lot of money at Books A Million. No information about royalities that should go to charities. Sounds like typical grift and sales to gain a best seller nod.
Ron DeSantis’s press secretary has been suspended by Twitter for a whole twelve hours for suggesting her followers go after an AP reporter, and AP itself, after the reporter reported about De Santis’s connections to the major financier of regeneron, which DeSantis is pushing.
Twelve whole hours, for posting “drag them” and “Light. Them. Up” about journalists who reported truthfully about DeSantis.
What a triumph for DeSantis! He gets away with urging violence on reporters via a compliant minion (and having compliant minions is crucial for the reputation of any prospective Bully-Dear Leader).
This will advance his Presidential prospects enormously.
(And what profoundly disgusting laxity on the part of Twitter decision-makers we see in this case.)
They do. Because there has been NO penalty for it.
Yes, FoxNews sometimes has to scramble because too many sponsors balk at supporting their prime-time Terrorism is Fun! hours. But somehow the profits seem to continue rolling in sufficiently to keep the game going.
I still wonder if it’s possible to bring pressure to bear from the cable companies themselves. IF (if, if, if) enough customers say ‘no I will not pay for FoxNews, it is not news, it is ‘entertainment’ and I don’t think it should be part of the standard package’—if if if enough said that, and used the leverage of cutting the cord, then maybe something would change.
But of course the likelihood is that Tucker and Ron and all the other little stochastic terrorists will go on urging their followers to violent action. Because, after all, it costs them nothing and it’s profitable. (And they are sociopaths.)
Complete headline: Florida Gives Schools 48 Hours To Do Away With Their Mask Mandates — Or Lose Funding
MIAMI — Florida officials are threatening to withhold funds equal to the salaries of school board members if school districts in two counties don’t immediately do away with strict mask mandates as the state continues to battle through high hospitalization rates.
I guess it’s pointless to ask: “What the fuck is wrong with these people??”
Yeah, I thought so.
Note: Some of this is playing to the bleachers. IOW political theater.
Because of the size of the school districts’ budgets, the cuts are more symbolic than harmful. According to the Legislature’s Office of Economic and Demographic Research, school board members in Alachua County make $40,000 per year and in Broward County, $46,000. Alachua has about 30,000 students and a $258 million general fund budget. Broward County has about 270,000 students and a $2.7 billion general fund budget.
So even if the funding is cut, it won’t have all that much practical impact. Makes a good story, though.
The Speaker of the Wisconsin state House is traveling with Individual 1 today to his rally in Alabama (one wonders where they picked him up, did he go to Florida to travel with the Other Guy or did their plane fly to Milwaukee to pick him up?), The purpose of the meeting is for the Speaker, Robin Vos, to get tips from Individual 1 to run a vote audit. Because he has had so many successful audits.
