Are you two making joinder? If so, get a room.
‘Forever’ was an option on the plate Rand?
So much for the ‘liberty’ in ‘libertarian’!
I’m not quite tracking what it is that Rand Paul is fantasizing about. I mean, I get it’s general ‘George Soros is funding all dissent in the USA and there’s no dissent without his funding it’ and similar right-wing delusions.
But I’m not getting the “they’ve all got fresh new clothes” bit. Is Paul’s fantasy about people being given plane tickets by the Demon Soros and then, what, participating in a ceremony of bloody dismemberment of good libertarians upon landing, and thus needing Fresh Clothes?
Or what?
I guess I never saw anyone cite ‘fresh clothes’ as being evidence of criminal intent. But then I don’t live inside the skull of Rand Paul–no doubt a strange and wondrous place.
More like strange and horrifying.
yeah I was being an itsy bitsy sarcastic.
He really is a piece of work, though.
The “fresh, new clothes” were probably the only payment they were given.
We have it on ‘‘good’ ‘authority’’ that all Black Bloc Anarchists can be identified by their official uniforms and color coordinated gas masks.
Clearly “fresh new clothes” is code for this.
Clearly, “fresh, new clothes” is a dog whistle.
Rand Paul is a dog pan flute.
Dog 76 trombones.
Damn, Soros is cheap!

One imagines he expects the peasant-folk to be shambling about in tattered sackcloth, burlap sacks, and pickle barrels on suspenders, with nothing but torn strips of cloth wrapped around their ulcers, disgusting feet, as they groan “Please, milord, spare a ha’penny?”

Heh. I think you’ve hit on the explanation!
“Please, milord, spare a hairpiece?”
The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) has canceled future in-person briefings on election security issues to the congressional intelligence committees and will only provide written updates, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) announced in a statement on Saturday.
Why it matters: The National Counterintelligence and Security Center said in early August that the Russian government is actively “using a range of measures” to “denigrate former Vice President Biden” before the November election.
- The center’s director, William Evanina, added that Kremlin-linked actors are trying to support President Trump’s candidacy on social media and Russian television, while others are spreading false claims about corruption to undermine Biden and the Democratic Party.
…What they’re saying: 'This is a shocking abdication of [ODNI’s] lawful responsibility to keep the Congress currently informed, and a betrayal of the public’s right to know how foreign powers are trying to subvert our democracy," Pelosi and Schiff said.
- “This intelligence belongs to the American people, not the agencies which are its custodian. And the American people have both the right and the need to know that another nation, Russia, is trying to help decide who their president should be.”
…The White House has not responded to a request for comment.
You don’t say.

This is actually a feature of most modern boards. The client-side software interprets the rich text from your clipboard and converts it so that the formatting will be preserved. For instance, if you go copy stuff out of a spreadsheet and just raw-paste it into a post, it will automatically be converted into a table-tagged format.

This is actually a feature of most modern boards.-
What do you mean by “boards”? Web sites? Web pages? Or discussions boards like this one?
'Cause, as you know, I quote LOTS of articles from web sites. I put the headline and then usually quote enough of the article that people know what it’s about. Axios is the only site that I can copy/paste an article and the formatting (bold, indents, bullet points) is the same as our Discourse board. This was not the case on the old board. I had to supply the formatting. To make it match.
NYTimes, WaPo, Atlantic, Huff Post, Wonkette-- not.
Fighting my own ignorance.
Here is an example: i was copying a table off another website and pasting it into a spreadsheet. It was a somewhat laborious task which called for a bit of adjustment. Here is a section of cells copied from the spreadsheet and simply pasted directly into this post with no formatting added by me:
1 | Jeff Bezos | $199.3 | 56 | Amazon | United States |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
2 | Bill Gates | $117.3 | 65 | Microsoft | United States |
3 | Bernard Arnault & family | $113.9 | 71 | LVMH | France |
4 | Mark Zuckerberg | $107.8 | 36 | United States | |
5 | Elon Musk | $97.8 | 49 | Tesla, SpaceX | United States |
6 | Warren Buffet | $82.4 | 90 | Berkshire Hathaway | United States |
7 | Mukesh Ambani | $81.1 | 63 | petrochemicals, oil & gas | India |
You see how the Discourse software converted it to a table (the top line is bold because it is being treated as a header)? vBulletin would not have been able to do that.
If I copy a fragment of text from arstechnica,
it drew quick attention from researchers, who have been examining data from the first confirmed case of a SARS-CoV-2 reinfection, reported earlier this week.
note how just pasting it in as-is carries a link over – the old board did not do that.
As to why some site just do plain text, they may be specifically coded to only allow plain text copies.
That is really cool.

Dang. I miss her.
Yeah. She put in hard and smart work that made a lot of people happy (on this board, certainly, and no doubt elsewhere as well).
