I guess I should clarify that although the term doublespeak does not actually appear in the novel, it is generally agreed that it is a direct descendant of “newspeak” and “doublethink.”
Florida decided to take federal covid funds and individually cut checks for teachers, instead of giving the money to school districts to hand out locally. Some of the checks are bouncing.
