1890s, I assume.
Hey, now! I’m not that old
But he is.
Not sure where this goes, but in zany Idaho, “moderate” Republicans are hoping that Democrats can save them from the crazy wing of their party.
Narrator: There are no moderate righties in Idaho.
From your link:
Guys, if your party has become so destructive, then fix it or leave it. Don’t come crying to your more responsible neighbors to fix it for you. Or even to their dogs.
Yep. Don’t ask the sane to help you with your crazy problem. Leave the crazies and join the sane. The problem is, in Idaho, the sane Right is so small that even if they left, there would still be a crazy majority. This state is fucked. In related news:
The Idaho Death Panels are going to be busy for awhile as they ration care.
The employee-owned grocery chain I work for was founded in and is headquartered out of Boise. I’m sure the city is more left-leaning than the rest of the state, but I’ll never understand how such a progressive company came out of that netherworld.
We love your grocery stores!
I live in the area known as North Idaho (not northern Idaho). The only left-leaning portion of this entire region is Moscow. All the rest is bleeding red.
I grew up in Spirit Lake, Idaho. “Liberals” was nothing but a swear word.
I was thinking it looked like a suspect’s storage unit they’d find on Law and Order.
Is Mr. Reed a good Christian? Thou shalt have no gods before me and all that.
The other thought I had was except for maybe the campaign signs, all that stuff cost money.
I swear there’s specific instruction not to build altars at all . . . but damned if I can be bothered to check 'cause, clearly, God didn’t mean Mr. Reed’s altar to Trump.
Was Billy Graham anything like this shithead? Billy was a very reputable Christian evangelical minister, or at least that was his public persona. Was Billy as deplorable as Kid Franklin behind the scenes? Does anybody know? How did Franklin the Kid turn out like this?
I know exactly what grocery chain you refer to. It does appear to be a good place to do business. Here in California-land, I do most of my shopping there.
Thing is, Billy ministered to Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Bush the Elder too. (I can google up pictures too!) He wasn’t the overtly one-sided political partisan, nor an overt hate-monger that Frank is. Or, as I said, at least not publicly. What was he really like?
Like all of us that answer is complicated.
Graham did alot of good. But he only went so far.
There are tons of articles out there chronicling the two sides of him, but this one gives a good primer
Good find! This article approximately tells me what I already thought I knew about him. He was no Franklin Roosevelt or Martin Luther King Jr. – But Franklin Graham seems to be nothing like Billy Graham. What went wrong?
Well, the two men seem to be products of their generation.
Billy Graham struggled with racism, anti semitism, and homophobia like many of his generation. But also carried a deep seated feeling of “the white man’s burden”. That it was his duty to help these poor unfortunates out of their situation.
Franklin, on the other hand (also like many of his generation) sees things in a more nationalist view. He sees the best way to help his fellow Americans is to make America as strong as possible. If you make America great, you don’t have to help the unfortunate, they’ll be able to help themselves.
It’s really two sides of the same coin.
They both believe they are better than the rest, but have different ideas on how best to direct that “great responsibility”.
This seems to be one of the latest right-wing propaganda points going around - that harassing and threatening schools and teachers is just “expressing their concerns”, much in the same way that some people couch overt bigotry as a “difference of opinion”.
