NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 1)

Maybe that’s the point.

A new revolution is in progress, and it is Rittenhouse’s side that will be sent packing back across the ocean.

I’ve been saying that we seem to have reached the blood-in-the-streets phase already. Quite a bit sooner than I thought we would, even.

Just a quick bit on history. The “first shot” of the revolution, at the Villiage Green in Lexington, is still a matter of dispute if a nervous militiaman or a British regular fired it. It is historical fact that both sides opened fire then, the British routing the irregulars.

A couple hours later, at Concord, it was the Colonists who fired at the British squad holding 'the rude bridge" that Emerson wrote about.

Press on.

No one can dispute Lexington’s claim to the first shots, and sadly, the first colonial casualties of the Revolutionary War. However the “shot heard round the world” is not a reference to the first shot.

British Captain Laurie, in charge of the 115 men in the three companies, gave the command to move into “street firing” formation to allow for uninterrupted firing, as one row would fire, then melt to the flanks of the one behind, which would then fire, and do the same behind the third row, and so on until the field was taken or given up.

On came the militia, muskets held mostly at the trail in their left hands, the stocks barely above the ground. After descending the hill, the men’s route had consumed the curvature of the topography, reaching a causeway, and then headed east along the Concord River toward the North Bridge. Captain Laurie was still scrambling to get the three companies into the right formation, since, being from various units, the men had not worked with each other prior to being put together for this advance into the Massachusetts countryside.

And then, a musket discharge reverberated. Captain Laurie snapped his head around and noticed one of his men had fired. The now-famous “shot heard around the the world” had been discharged.

This is more “evil” than stupid, but we don’t actually have an Evil Republican Idea of the Day thread:

Congressman Thomas Massie says Kyle Rittenhouse showed “incredible restraint” when he didn’t empty his entire magazine into the crowd.
Thomas Massie, Kentucky GOP Rep., Lauds ‘Incredible Restraint’ of Accused Double Murderer Kyle Rittenhouse?

It’s like the joke.

“Hey, I managed to prevent a mass murder today!”

“Really, how’d you do that?”

“Self restraint.”

Texas Assistant Attorney General loses his job after his months of racist, homophobic, violence-encouraging social media posts becomes public.

Wasn’t last week’s story that he was there to help the authorities and defend our political system against people who were rising up against it?

Yes, exactly.

He is being compared to the British soldier who fired the first shot to help to maintain the tyranny of King George. He was there, just as Rittenhouse was, to help the authorities against those who opposed it.

His lawyer is pointing out that a new revolution against tyranny has begun, and his client is on the side of the tyrants.

They either don’t know history, or are hoping that it goes differently this time.

Semantically, yes. Patriots are the loyalists. The colonies were still crown subjects, so actual patriotism would have meant support for the king. The colonists who fought to throw off the crown would have been renegades, rebels, bearers of treason, anything but patriots.

When Ben Franklin said at the signing of the Declaration of Independence, “We must all hang together, or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately,” he wasn’t speaking figuratively about the latter option.

Yeah, he can probably find a better gig in the Trump administration anyway.

Two Boogalo Bois arrested for trying to join forces with Hamas.

Multiple boats sinking or in distress on Lake Travis outside Austin during the pro-Individual 1 boat rally.

Ha-ha!

When you carry water for Trump…
Hopefully symbolic of Trump’s campaign.
No, you fools! You shoot guns in the air!

“Boojahideen”?

I came to post this, and see that Rick Kitchen has already done so. Oh well, it’s worth seeing twice.
“AUSTIN, Texas – Authorities in Texas confirmed to ABC News they are responding to “multiple distress calls” and “a few boats have sunk” where a “boat parade” in support of President Donald Trump was being held Saturday afternoon.”
I’ll withhold the link, because it’s up above a few posts.
Trump boaters: “Oopsie!”

Unknown to the organizers, Biden supporters hid extra water just below the surface.
