NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 1)

Virtually every media analysis of the proceedings came away with the impression the six conservative justices were strongly leaning toward upholding the Mississippi law that effectively bans abortion. But for some reason, that lockstep concurrence with anti-choice dogma wasn’t enough for Fox News host Laura Ingraham and her ideological twin, Sen. Ted Cruz. They were both incensed about something that was unclear. Perhaps it was the Court’s failure to issue an immediate edict sending all women who have considered abortion to Gitmo for reeducation. You decide…

Ingraham: If we have six Republican appointees on this court, after all the money that has been raised, the Federalist Society, all these big fat cat dinners - I’m sorry, I’m pissed about this - If this court with six justices cannot do the right thing here, the constitutional thing, then I think it’s time to do what Robert Bork said we should do. Which is to circumscribe the jurisdiction of this court and if they wanna blow it up, then that’s the way to change things finally. Because this can’t stand. This is insane.
Cruz: I would do that in a heartbeat. As you know the Constitution gives Congress the authority to restrict the jurisdiction of the court. I think we should do that.

Damn straight! The Republicans paid for those justices! :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Two peas nutcases in a pod.

What pisses me off is that the conservative justices still insist on whiny that the liberals are unfairly politicizing the court.

And do they not realize that the shortest path to a ruling they don’t like might be achieved by loudly screaming “You have to vote my way, I paid you off!

I always reminds of that scene in The Producers (the good one, not the horrendous musical remake) where Zero Mostel slips the New York Times theatre critic a bribe in order to offend him and ensure a bad review.

It’s going to be interesting to see the effect of this “You dance with who brung ya” shit is going to have on Barrett, Gorsuch and Kavanaugh. Roberts definitely does not go for it.

The state of Missouri did a study that shows that places with mask mandates have fewer covid cases than places with no mask mandates. And they hid the results.

“Facts? We don’t need no stinking facts!”

Yes, Roberts has signaled time and again that he doesn’t want his court to be known as the Republican SCOTUS.

But I wouldn’t count on that that to stay his hand—the desire to put the ladies in their proper place (as government-controlled reproductive appliances) may simply be too strong.

DeSantis can NOT be too fascist for today’s Republican voters.

I mean, he can put his brownshirts into brown shirts and send them around door to door to beat up non-whites and gays and other ‘undesirables’ indiscriminately—and the New York Times and other media desperate for a 2024 horse-race will post editorials about how strong a man he is, and how perhaps that’s what the nation really, truly needs.

I

Excuse me??? The New York Times?

Oh, yes. The NYT gets called “liberal” by right-wingers, but it has a long history of defending Trumpism (Maggie Haberman, anyone? Access!!!)

Here’s a recent example of someone calling out the NYT for its efforts on behalf of, in this case, police power:

(The Twitter thread has details.)

And the specific charge of NYT white-washing DeSantis has been noted, too. Here’s a notorious NYT piece of praise of DeSantis’ competence and probable leadership of the 2024 GOP-hopefuls pack:

Hard-hitting Ron! Taking care of those critics and displaying competence all over the place!

(There are other examples of NYT fawning over Governor Death.)

Ammon Bundy is trying to get a court to agree that his court ordered community service for his trespassing conviction can be taken care of by his campaigning for governor.

And, of course, this infamous headline, right before the 2016 election:

You have to admire the chutzpah.

And another example, from staff Trump-fluffer Bret Stephens whining about how unfair it is to blame the Mango Messiah for mismanaging the COVID epidemic:

“This is supposed to be happy occasion! Let’s not bicker and argue over who killed who…”

Or maybe that should go in the “Catchphrases” thread…

Plus, I gotta love that summary text.

“Finger pointing is pointless, divisive and dumb.”

Dude - you served with pride someone who is pointless, divisive and dumb.

One of the cancers on the body politic speaks:

  1. Every single year more than 600,000 people in the US die from cancer.
The country has never once shut down.
Not a single school has closed.
And every year, over 600,000 people, of all ages and all races will continue to die from cancer.

40000 men and women every day
Another 40000 coming every day
She could be like they are
Come on MT
Don’t fear the reaper

Having experienced both, I prefer cancer to MT.

I hear that both are treatable with heavy doses of radiation.

Georgia Republican voters, way to go. Give yourselves a big round of applause.

Oddly enough, that’s slightly less stupid than the meme about “If we’re providing free vaccinations because Covid’s so deadly, why aren’t we providing free heart surgery and chemotherapy?” (As if the vast majority of people who spread that aren’t against UHC.)

Does she not know you can’t catch cancer from someone else?

She’s lucky to know her own fucking name.
