Are they really bad at explaining things or are they slowly priming the nation for a full-on attack on democratic foundations? Maybe I’m paranoid but I’m seeing slowly increasing numbers of sentiments from conservatives that democracy doesn’t work because the “wrong” people are becoming a majority. Therefore, to save the country, democracy will have to be shelved for a while.
While some of us have naively been arguing for better representation in the country’s election systems, Republicans have now swung around to “it’s not unrepresentative enough!”
Biden wins by a solid though not overwhelming margin. Trump naturally takes this with all the grace and dignity – no, I can’t even finish that sentence. He bitches, whines, pisses and moans about Biden stealing the election, wasting everyones’ time. The Chinese could invade the continental U.S. but he wouldn’t even notice. He tries to launch an investigation but Barr, seeing the writing on the wall, barely go through the motions.
Biden wins in a blowout of Reagan-Mondale proportions. Trump resigns on November 4, leaving Pence as the lame duck president. “They want me gone? Fuck it, I’m gone. Mike, you can give the keys to Joe. I need to find a country with five-star hotels and no extradition treaty.”
I’ve said that all along. It makes me wonder why he’s still here. I assumed that as soon as it’s clear he’s going to lose, he’d make a taxpayer-funded trip to Dubrovnik or Moscow and just not get back on the return flight.
The covid diagnosis would give him the perfect excuse to drop out of the race… c’mon, Don!
That will never happen. He’ll pardon himself and everybody around him, then his lawyers will appeal every single state charge against him until he dies. He’ll throw his family under the bus, of course. But he’ll never quit or run. Too much ego.
I don’t even mean election related things that could happen in the lame duck. We are going to have a president for several months who is entirely disinterested in being president, and potentially vengeful upon the country that rejected him. He is going to sow chaos for the sake of chaos.
I predict that if Trump loses in a Biden blowout, he will alternate between complaining that the vote was rigged and bemoaning that he was betrayed by everyone…just like at the end of the Downfall film.
Now he has some check on his insanity in the form of an election. Then he will have no check on his insanity and a reason to burn everything to the ground.
And, of course, it could be significantly worse if the Senate goes Democrat. The Republicans will have all the more incentive to let him harm the country in the lame duck period if it undermines the incoming administration.
