Bad idea, there. That would lead to Republican leaders refusing to certify anything where the Democrats got a majority. What you need is a rule that all elections must be certified, and if they’re not, and don’t have the compelling evidence for fraud or whatever, then the state nonetheless considers them certified. And if there is fraud, then there needs to be a new election.
i am given to understand from the reporting that if they certified the results various recourses would kick in; recounts, court disputes, etc. by not certifying they have no recourse.
Otero county? In the Jornada del Muerto basin, where the desert sands are dusted with the fallout from the Trinity bomb test? Color me unsurprised.
Was it the New Mexico county’s Board of Supervisors who ordered that Dominion voting machines be used? Is there no way they can issue any directives to the Board of Elections?
So now Herschel Walker has four kids, not just the one who says he isn’t gay just because he likes sex with men.
Barry Loudermilk said that he did not give a tour of the Capitol on 1/5. When video came out actually showing him giving a tour on 1/5, he said they were just “constituents”, without explaining why he denied it. The video shows one of the members of the tour taking photographs. That guy attacked the Capitol the next day. Loudermilk says he was taking photos of a statue.
Odd how his district has a large border with the one of Perjury Traitor Greede.
A new contender for “Dumbest Member of Congress”:
“In case you forgot the sham #January6thcommitteehearings are purely for TV ratings, Pelosi let The Communist News Network build a full TV set where Abraham Lincoln’s desk once stood,” the Florida Republican tweeted.
Steube included a photo of Jake Tapper hosting a discussion on CNN with a backdrop that appeared to be from inside the U.S. Capitol’s Statuary Hall, where Lincoln’s desk is indeed believed to have been.
Steube deleted his fiery CNN takedown about 30 minutes after tweeting it, as someone clearly let him know that the background was a green screen…
Loudermilk is a lying sack of shit who helped insurrectionists gain information about how to attack and potentially kill elected members of congress. Loudermilk aided and abetted criminals.
There has been such a firehose-level of news in recent days that this story hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves.
Loudermilk quite clearly lied–repeatedly–over the time since the first accusations arose (January 2021, from the Congresswoman who saw tours being conducted on Jan 5 2021 by Loudermilk and others). Congress has repeatedly signaled its indifference to repeated lying by Republican members, so it’s doubtful Loudermilk’s blatant dishonesty will be addressed at all.
Possibly worse: the Monday (6-13-2022) letter by the chief of the Capital Police, Tom Manger, stating that there was Nothing Suspicious about the tour Loudermilk gave on 1-5-21—the one where the guy who later participated in 1-6-21 took photos of security checkpoints, stairways, etc.
Some have speculated that Manger is looking forward to Kevin McCarthy being in charge of the House after the upcoming November elections, and made this cover-for-Loudermilk claim as a way of currying favor.
But whatever his motivation is, it’s very concerning that the CHIEF of the force charged with keeping Congress safe–including during the 1/6 hearings!–is so willing to lie his ass off to protect Republicans.
I learned just how far one can scroll down the headline ravery at the murdoch site in a futile search for something about today’s 1/6 hearings before one becomes too newseated to continue and must close the page or flee to the bathroom.
(answer: the bottom of the first screenful is still visible)
I was surprised that Fox actually aired the committee today.
Montana is under disaster declaration, but the Governor is out of the country.
Not hiking the Appalachian Trail?
Geez, Montana has actual mountains.
They’d just use the standard fallback: “He works in mysterious ways. It is not our place to question Him.”
Let’s not forget that, at the time, there were no tours of the Capitol Building allowed, at all, due to covid restrictions.
The thing that really annoys me is that they don’t apply this to everything. How come they never think, “Biden got 81 million votes and won the election? Must be God’s will!”
And also, tours are not normally hours long and do not visit a majority of the places Loudermilk (wth kind of name is that, anyway? is his dairy a noisy place?) took them. They aren’t for instance, supposed to show outsiders where the connecting tunnels are.
I suppose things have probably changed in the last 30 years, but when I visited back in the early 90’s, visitors were allowed to use the connecting tunnels to travel from the Capitol to the office buildings where the Reps and Senators had their offices. Even got to ride on the train.
I suppose that stuff is probably more off limits to the public now, though, unfortunately.
