Just another Florida Man, albeit one in Congress.
Or any other Democrat, said Bill Barr. Even more incredibly, so would Mike Pence!
I’m as puzzled by this as you are, Cal. They could take a somewhat diplomatic way out by simply saying “I will do everything I can to ensure the Republican Party nominates a suitable candidate,” or “I may just sit that one out,” and leave it at that.
I understand how steeped these people are in strict conservative dogma, but saying out loud that you will vote for a guy who sicked a mob on you, with the intention of murdering you in broad daylight, is beyond any rational explanation.
Biden might do something a thousand times worse, raise taxes!
I guess what we need is a deepfake video we can leak that shows the American-hating fuckstick filing paperwork to run as a Democrat in ‘24.
They don’t believe the reality right in front of their faces, so why would they believe this?
After it was reported at the 1/6 commission yesterday about how a Ron Johnson staffer was trying to pressure Wisconsin to send fake electors, reporters tried to corner him as he was leaving the Senate. He told them he couldn’t talk, he was on the phone. A reporter replied, “No, you aren’t, I can see your screen.”
More on this from The Atlantic:
We knew there are more of them, but it’s still disturbing.
…
“If he is the nominee, if he was up against Biden, I’d vote for him again,” Bowers told The Associated Press. “Simply because what he did the first time, before COVID, was so good for the county. In my view it was great.”
…
I’m assuming that should be “country” not “county,” but WHAT EXACTLY did trumpy do for the country?
When did everyone learn he has MPD? I hadn’t heard that.
Tax cuts and elevated hatred against The Other.
CTE is a terrible thing:
…Walker was going after Stacey Abrams, the Democratic candidate for governor, for recently saying, “I am tired of hearing about [Georgia] being the best state in the country to do business when we are the worst state in the country to live.”…
…If you don’t believe in the country, leave and go somewhere else," he said. “If it’s the worst state, why are you here? Why don’t you leave – go to another? There’s, what, 51 more other states that you can go to?”…
He said that he has multiple personalities, but that’s ok, because so does the Holy Trinity.
Former Republican candidate for Governor of Florida charged for wire fraud.
Yeah, Gillum was a Democrat. He’s the one who lost to DeSantis (and was later found in shambles following a gay meth binge; his post political life has not been pretty)
Oops. Sorry, Democrat.
This difference, though, is that the party won’t let him within a mile of any sort of future power or influence. Same with Anthony Weiner, or even Elliott Spitzer and Al Franken.
The Republicans don’t just absolve their most loathsome members, they anoint them.
Yes, that seems likely.
Also: some of these Republicans officials may be like the average Republican voter in restricting their news diet to right-wing sources only. And many of those sources may be telling them that all Democrats are actually Communists*. Others may be telling them that all Democrats are actually supernatural entities: demons.
Someone like Barr, I would assume, knows better: he’s GOP for the tax cuts (and, of course, for the power).
Someone like Bowers may be a true believer in the gospel of Democratic demon-hood, however.
*Communist being a fairly meaning-free snarl word for most Republicans, of course; it’s just An Awful Thing To Be so far as they know. It’s what Bad People are.
I was dashing out the door when I posted that reply, and as I was driving to town I realized I had overlooked to include the most important factor of all:
Trump allows them to push their extreme fundamentalist religious views into the mainstream – where they all believe they should be for everyone. If you look at the common denominator of people like Bowers, Barr, Pence, McConnell, Mike Lee, Steve Scalise and so many more, all of them cling to a fervent view of Christianity being a necessary guidepost for every American.
The fact that they adhere little to the actual tenets of Christianity is no big deal to them. It’s not what you are; it’s what you say you are.
Yup, bad people like Putin.
Not just Christianity. You get Jews like Josh Mandel all in.
