There’s a joke there somewhere, but it’s too early for me to find it.

Say, nice hand basket. Where’re we headed?
Those are the ones I really can’t figure out. The GQP wants you DEAD, people! They aren’t joking!
Maybe they think being the last ones killed in the genocidal purge is “winning”? Like Batlar in classic BSG.
Looking at their website, I suspect that there aren’t too many homosexuals actually involved in that group.
Cthulhu. The folks that worship him are hoping they’ll be eaten last.
He’s the caviar in Roe v Wade.
First. They want to spare themselves the madness that Cthulhu’s coming would bring.
You’re right. It’s been a while.
Seriously, regarding Black and Gay, and Female(?), Republicans - it is a bit patronizing to think that membership in one of those classes conveys some sort of cognitive superpower that makes them immune to the GOP messaging. Everyone is susceptible to cognitive dissonance. People be people.
I am reminded of the Illuminati rule that an Illuminati with no puppets after the third turn is eliminated from the game – except that if Cthulhu destroys its last puppet and thereby reaches its goal of eight destroyed groups, instead of being eliminated they win.
Well, there are 3,000 counties in the US, the vast majority of which have county boards or mayors or the like, not to mention other miscellaneous offices like Sheriff. Then given that there are probably multiple Republicans running for these offices so conservatively there are probably at least 4,000-8,000 Republicans running for local office so that the 40 Black candidates are almost surely less than 1% of the total.
A friend of mine had a gay friend in NC, who regularly voted for Strom Thurmond, who was, shall we say, no friend to the LGBTQ+ community. When asked why on earth he’d do that, his response was that gay was not all he was and he was voting on other issues.
I don’t get it, but it’s as good a reason as any, I suppose. I’ve tried not to be a single issue voter myself, but at this point I’m at “I’m never voting for a Republican again”, even if they’re the only ones on the ballot.
That would have been voter fraud.
Now if your friend was from South Carolina, on the other hand…
Or were they voting for Jesse Helms? Two peas from the same pod.
You know, it might have been Jesse Helms, at that. Strom sounded wrong, but they were both reactionary bigots.

I said as much to Martha McSally in my final message to her a couple days before she was voted out of office. Never got a reply, not too surprising – she was busy packing.
Q: Is this the right thread to comment on the 18-wheeler terrorist attack going on in Ottawa right now? Because it seems like a lot of the same 01/06 Insurrectionists are behind both attacks.
I was under the possibly mistaken impression that most of the members of the trucker convoy were right-wing Canadians inspired by 1/6? Or are a large proportion of them Americans?
That last bit could be very interesting regarding Trump. I guess the question is how “unlawfully” is defined. Unfortunately may be one of those things like “classified” where its whatever the president says it is.
ETA: Yeah, unfortunately it looks like I was right
From this link on the presidential records act (PRA):
Instead, the president is responsible for interpreting whether the PRA applies to specific records, which implicates public and congressional access to those records. And unlike the FRA, the PRA grants the president exclusive responsibility for custody of, control of and access to presidential records during his or her presidency. The National Archives has a more active role under the FRA in developing document preservation policies alongside federal agencies.
…
The PRA, in comparison, provides even fewer safeguards against the destruction of records. The law leaves it to the president to “take all such steps as may be necessary” to ensure that presidential records are maintained and preserved. It also grants the president discretion to dispose of records that “no longer have administrative, historical, informational, or evidentiary value.” While a president must ask the advice of the archivist before destroying records, he or she is free to disregard that advice.
Something must be making them immune to it, considering that GOP messaging largely consists of: If you’re not a Straight White Christian Male, you ain’t shit.
