I wonder if this will be the new repeal-and-replace, like they’ve been trying to do with Obamacare. The effort to repeal starts now; the plans for what to replace it with are promised for later, but never actually arrive.
True enough, but it wouldn’t work (in church or the GOP) if some people didn’t already believe it to the core.
(Funny thing is, I actually believe that the US is, if not the Greatest Country the World Has Ever Seen, at least in the top 20. But that doesn’t make me turn a blind eye to its current flaws and past horrors; it makes me want to do everything I can to address them.)
One of the big reasons they didn’t get their red wave was from the Supreme Court striking down Roe. Now they’re doubling down on the abortion thing? Really?
I am just guessing but I suspect they are just playing to their base. They know there is almost no chance what they propose will become law so they won’t piss off the people who care and they can tell their base they tried but the evil libs keep thwarting them. Send a check to them (random republican) to own the libs!
They are in a bad catch-22. They have to do things to energize their base, but everything that energizes the base repulses the rest of the population. If they try to reach out to the rest of the population, their base will viciously turn on them. They are stuck pandering to the extreme MAGAs even though it’s electoral poison for everyone else. They made their own bed though, so no sympathy at all here.
The Supreme Court succeeded. They’re supposed to try and fail, which will rile up their base, but not actually piss off the moderates who think “well they won’t ACTUALLY ban abortion.”
…except the people who care about access to abortion now know for certain that, if the GOP wins the Senate and Presidency in 2024, and retains the House, anti-abortion is definitely on their agenda.
