NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 2)

Fun Fact: George Santos invented Gatorade while researching Gatoraid.

Some of the responses to Santos’ tweet are gold;

It’s not apparent; it’s happening. On a RWNJ message board that I follow, Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) failed because of “wokeness.”

Seems that SVB’s website mentioned that it supported “diversity, equity, and inclusion” (DEI) policies. From that simple statement, the RWNJs there concluded that SVB was too “woke” to appeal to Real Americans™, who, as we all know, are the majority of Americans. (End sarcasm.) So, they sold their stock in SVB, and withdrew their deposits, and SVB failed.

They use the same logic on such things as Disney. Disney didn’t like Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill, so DeSantis revoked Disney’s quasi-government in the Reedy Creek area, and now Disney’s stock price is falling because Real American™ investors won’t support a “woke” company. Besides, what’s with all these non-white Disney princesses: Moana, Pocahontas, Jasmine–the list goes on.

Frankly, I think these people have little to no knowledge of the stock market, or how it works; or indeed, how the banking or entertainment industries work. All they know is that they’ve been told that “Falling stock prices are a Bad Thing, and signal that a company is in trouble.” Well, I don’t think Disney is in any trouble.

As the RWNJs so often repeat, “Go Woke, Go Broke.” But really, companies’ stock prices can fall for many reasons, not just DEI policies, or whether they disagree with the policies of their jurisdiction’s government.

Meanwhile, here’s what happens when you ask them what “woke” actually means;

Great find, @Smapti . Yep, she might as well be one of those RWNJs on that message board. They have equal difficulty defining the term, just as she did. If her “ums” and “ahs” could be accurately depicted on a message board, they’d be doing just that.

I think I, a liberal, could come up with a more coherent and reasonable-sounding-to-the-relatively-uninformed definition of “woke.” In fact, I’m surprised that some enterprising conservative hasn’t come up with one and just fed that to everyone as the line to parrot when asked this really basic question. It’s pathetic.

I couldn’t last the entire 52 seconds of her nonsense. She did get one thing right: “This is one of those moment’s that will go viral”. Yep, the hateful sod’s stupidity in full display on stage deserves to go viral.

Definitions are… um… by definition, WOKE. The word is getting plenty of airtime with no definition.

Virtually any company of any size now mentions DEI on their website. (It’s often no more meaningful than the “equal opportunity employer” statements of a generation ago.) So if a DEI statement causes banks to fail the entire economy will soon be a smoking crater.

This option requires them to figure out who was in charge in 2018. Maybe it was aliens. Or ghosts. Or something not orange, at any rate.

Well, geez, you don’t expect them to explain the actual meaning (which is “I don’t have the nerve to say ‘uppity’”), now do you?

It looks like the Gnome of Tallahassee’s strategy for the nomination will be blathering about woke, pc, drag queens, grooming, woke, woke, pc, and woke. And the right wing slobs will eat it up, no doubt.

Still, I’m hoping for all out war between the two Florida camps. Fun for the whole family.

Rooting for injuries.

The beauty of “woke” is that, like Nixon’s “silent majority,” it doesn’t have to be defined. In fact, it works better if it isn’t defined, other than that it’s “bad.” That way the recipients can conflate it with their particular bugaboos — BLM, trans, abortion rights, gun seizures, what have you — and then the use of a single word pushes the “froth” button for multiple populations.

It also makes attempts to define the word futile: the target audience already know what it means, though they probably can’t articulate the definition because it’s implanted below the conscious level.

Here’s a youtube commentary from a dude I respect. He talks about this interview, and another she did on Faux. His take is that the WOKE! BS is a grift with the only real gripe being having to have the unfortunate, occasional awkward conversation when one misgenders another. 14 minutes long if anyone has a little time to kill.

Speaking of DEI, Florida Republicans have introduced a bill to ban programs that promote diversity, equity and inclusion in colleges and universities across the state.

House Bill 999, or the Public Postsecondary Educational Institutions, bans colleges from financially supporting “any programs or campus activities that espouse diversity, equity, or inclusion or Critical Race Theory rhetoric.”

The language has led to concerns that Black fraternities and sororities will be barred from Florida campuses under the proposed legislation.

Meanwhile, a majority of Americans consider being called “woke” a compliment.

Sure, the woke ones. There ya go! Proof!

Because we all know that big bankers are the epitome of left-wingers, right?

From one of the top Republican state senators in Minnesota: he doesn’t know anyone who is hungry.
