NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 2)

I thought the republicans are against witch hunts.

Republicans are against something that one deranged guy calls a witch hunt.
(I know you’re being sarcastic.)

If they will not accept student IDs, but will accept military IDs. then they are definitely trying to keep a certain class of people from voting.

Military IDs have no information about where you reside.

Just before Ron DeFuhrer was set to take over Disneyworld’s special district, the old board passed a series of measures delegating almost all of its authority directly to Disney until such time as the lineage of the kings of England becomes extinct, making the new board essentially powerless.

Well, actually it’s just “21 years after the youngest current descendant of King Charles”, which is still more than long enough to last until the rain finally washes the last traces of urine from Ron DeFuhrer’s gravesite.

The specific text is “the last survivor of the descendants of King Charles III”, which I read as meaning when there is no heir to the throne descended from ol’ Chuck.

Just taking a lesson from some Republican governors, is all.

IIRC, Texas had a bill (not sure if it ever made it into law) that said that student ID cards weren’t valid photo ID, but that concealed carry cards were valid photo ID, despite the CCWs not even actually bearing a photo.

It’s even better than that. It’s “in perpetuity”. The King Charles Clause only kicks in if it runs afoul of the “Rules Against Perpetuity” (and maybe it already does, I have no idea).

I also saw a tweet that said

“I cannot think of a more naked attempt to circumvent the will of the voters, the will of the legislature, and the will of the governor,” said one board member, who read aloud one of the reported agreements between Disney and the former Reedy Creek board.

Well no shit, that was the point, and I’m fairly sure the attempt was ‘naked’ because they wanted to make sure everyone saw it.

Can I assume the previous board members now occupy similar positions within Disney?

Lame Duck Walker crippled governor’s powers and then, exactly as expected, the republicans pounced on Evers (the next gov) for not doing a bunch of stuff that he no longer had the power to do. IMO, it made it all the more amusing when he found a workaround for covid lockdowns.

I’m always surprised there isn’t some type of law to stop that. Something like governors can’t pass laws that limit powers of that position unless the expire on or before their last day.
Essentially, you can limit your powers, but only yours.

Back in the very early days of Covid when Evers was having a hard time getting executive (lockdown) orders to stick, the Department of Health Services Secretary, Andrea Palm, issued her own lock down order. The right asked asked her something along the lines of “what gives you the right to unilaterally…” to which she responded with something along the lines of “YOU did, I was appointed and it’s YOUR rules that allow me to issue emergency public health orders”.

Try as I might, I really can’t find the exact quotes.

“I cannot think of a more naked attempt to circumvent the will of the voters, the will of the legislature, and the will of the governor,” said one board member

Womp womp…

Turns out this is a fairly standard way of getting around the rule against perpetuities.

Not correctly recalled.

The law did pass and CHLs (concealed handgun license), as they were called at the time, had photo requirements (passport quality and had to pass muster with whoever approved your application). As IDs go, separate from the politics, they were actually fine, since the process of getting one required a fair amount of documentation. The real issue, as usual, was/is that getting such IDs involved some hoop jumping and there are structural roadblocks in place to make the process harder for …let’s say people with certain ethnic backgrounds and/or lower incomes.

The state went a bit more whackadoodle since. The licenses are now LTCs (license to carry) as open carry became allowed. You don’t need to get a separate photo or fingerprints anymore, as you can simply opt to have the DPS use the photo and prints you already submitted (digital these days of course) for your driver’s license. They even mail you a reminder when your license expiration date is coming up.

Y’know, this would be a brilliant day to be DJT’s ghostwriter as you’d be having a ball roasting RonD for letting his mooks get teabagged by Disney’s mooks during the changeover.

(And oh, great, now MI6 is gonna have to keep an eye on Florida Man…)

Loser Donald plans to invade and occupy Mexico if reelected.

Only when people are hunting the wrong witches.

Thank you. I was wondering how Chuckie III got dragged into a pissing contest in Florida.

Yep. He’s EXACTLY like his owner, er, hero, Putin. Well, he has the same ambitions. Other than that, thankfully he’s incompetent. Yeah, right. Let’s attack one of our allies. That cannot go wrong at all.

I could’ve sworn Trump already blew the “drug cartels in mexico are terrorists = occupy mexico” dog whistle, but it appears it was Ron.

The Governor did not “pass” such a law, he merely put his signature on a measure that was passed by the legislature.
