A bill before the Florida legislature would allow parents to sue a school if they serve their child a vegetarian meal without the parents’ prior permission.
because, freedom
or something something something
A state senator in West Virginia - the same West Virginia that the Supreme Court ruled against in West Virginia v. Barnette that students cannot be compelled to recite the Pledge of Allegiance - has introduced a bill that would require high school seniors to swear an oath to the Constitution as a requirement to graduate.
If passed, Senate Bill 495 would require high school seniors to pledge an oath to the Constitution as a condition of graduation.
Incidentally, the bill’s sponsor was at the Capitol on 1/6/2021 and described the rioters as “peaceful American loving, constitution loving, God-loving Americans”.
CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — As the flags in West Virginia fly at half-staff following the riot at the nation’s Capitol and the death of a police officer as a result, one West Virginia repub…
In the anti-vax thread I asked -
Is it too early to start investing in the stocks of Iron Lung makers?
That was August of 2017. I am now sorry I did not make any investments.

From Wikipedia:
The use of iron lungs is largely obsolete in modern medicine, as more modern breathing therapies have been developed,[5] and due to the eradication of polio in most of the world.[6] However, in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic revived some interest in the device as a cheap, readily-producible substitute for positive-pressure ventilators, which were feared to be outnumbered by patients potentially needing temporary artificially assisted respiration.[7][8][9][10]
There’s a description of how they work(ed), something I always wondered.
Wyoming Republican Senator gets special mention for one of the most convoluted statements I have heard recently
I think it was an interesting approach to have a novel approach to have a national Republican committee take a position like that. So, this not a support or oppose, this is just an observation that I thought that was novel and unique.
My writing teachers would keelhaul her for using “approach to have” two times in rapid succession like that, but even without that clumsy repetition, this statement wins points for excessive obscurity. Which is the point. She was effectively making a contentless comment on the RNC’s censure of Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger.
Chris Hayes of MSNBC called it one of the “all-time great cowardly politician” quotes.
"I have seen more than a few in my day, and that is up there," MSNBC's Chris Hayes said of Sen. Cynthia Lummis' comment on the censure of anti-Trump Republicans.
Not entirely sure where this belongs, but … somewhere:
https://www.cnn.com/2022/02/08/politics/joyce-beatty-hal-rogers-poke-mask-dispute/index.html
Democratic Rep. Joyce Beatty of Ohio said Tuesday that Republican Rep. Hal Rogers of Kentucky poked her in the back and told her “kiss my ass” after she asked him to wear a mask before boarding the US Capitol’s subway system.
Rogers has since apologized, but …
I’m guessing that the Capitol subway is Federal, and that the ‘public transport’ mask mandate would apply.
But I’m so GD cynical that I wouldn’t preclude Rogers and Beatty staging the whole thing to gin up campaign $upport.
I’ve always wondered why professional wrestling hasn’t sued Congress for copyright infringement.
Well as to whether the statement of Lummis was cowardly, all I can say is that it was a unique quote that used words that I had not seen used in that order before, and so without saying that I agree or disagree as to its cowardice, I found that it represented a different alternative approach to the question she was asked.
Bless her heart, she means well.

I’m guessing it is under the control of Congress - so Chuck and Nancy at some level presumably set the rules (so there probably is a mask mandate).
Nice try, but your statement made way too much sense. I’m sorry, but I’m afraid you don’t qualify to be a Republican Congressman.
No, I take that back. I’m not sorry.

Very Good.
It would have been better if you could have used “approach to have” at least once in it (in all fairness, you did have “approach to” in it), but very good, nonetheless.

Sob. That was beautiful.

I wouldn’t want to see any of them in a onesie, though.
Candidate for the Texas House says transgender children make her uncomfortable, and it’s unfair that their classmates can’t make fun of them.
"I am not comfortable with the transgenders, the kids that they brought in my classroom," Shelley Luther was recorded saying at a candidate forum.
