Oklahoma state senator is proposing a bill that would require any journalist in a media organization that includes opinions in its work to submit to the following:
Complete a criminal background check.
Receive a license from the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, which regulates public utilities in the state.
Complete a propaganda-free safety training course of no less than eight (8) hours as prescribed by the State Department of Education, which shall be developed in coordination with PragerU,” which is a right-wing advocacy group known for distorting U.S. history and promoting climate change denial.
Have liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.
Submit to drug testing every quarter.
The name of this bill? Common Sense Freedom of Press Control Act. Got to control that freedom.
That is every fucking media outlet. Even those that do not have an explicit op-ed area and frame their copy in the most neutral way imaginable still express a viewpoint in their selection of content (“this is what you need to hear/read”).
And, of course, this will do nothing about out-of-state sources. Trying to tamp down the internets is a losing battle, and trying to control non-resident reporters will have limited success.
Common Sense Establishment of Religion Act
Common Sense Control of Peaceable Assembly Act
Common Sense Quartering of Soldiers without Consent Act
Common Sense Search & Seizure Act
Out-of-state news sources keep people angry at The Libs , so they’re good at distracting people.
This act, on the other hand, will reduce the number and scope of investigation of those reporters who hang around the state Capitol building and ask nosy questions, like why did this senator’s idiot nephew win the contract for paving the Muskogee bypass when his bid was double the next highest bid, and where did that senator get the money for his just-built new addition to his riverfront house on the Arkansas?
I mean, we gotta give the new golden age of political corruption some help!
And now he’s told us he thinks Truman knew all about the atomic bomb project before Roosevelt died. If this clown makes it back into the Oval Office, I’ll hate to see what the New History books videos in schools indoctrination camps will be.
It’s incredible the pass that Trump gets on these things.
I mean, I get that Trump does so much wrong that a lot gets buried; there’s only so much outrage and shock to go around.
But just last week I cancelled my subscription* to the Economist because they ran a story saying both candidates are showing signs of dementia, but that Biden is worse. Even though the only example they could give of Biden’s dementia, was him forgetting the name of one of his advisors, in an event more than two years ago.
Meanwhile Trump’s demonstrated verbal and memory confusion at least a dozen times in recent weeks, to a level that would be the primary attack on Biden if he had said any one of them.
* It might seem petty to cancel a subscription over one story, but this was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I’ve taken exception to several of their recent articles, and it continually annoys me that there is no right of reply.
I have a feeling maga may get a surprise if they get their “president for life.” Most dictatorships aren’t big on random armed civilians. I would bet that guns for everyone, even hunting, will disappear not to far into his reign. ymmv
Eh. The Nazis loosened gun laws for those that weren’t Jews or members of other targeted demographics. It plays into the whole militaristic vibe they and their supporters love.
In order to provide for the emergency management of the city, and further in order to provide for and protect the safety, security and general welfare of the city and its inhabitants, every head of household residing in the city limits is required to maintain a firearm, together with ammunition therefore.
Trump was blathering on about the plaintiff in his defamation suit owning a gun and citing it as why America is ‘going to hell’.
Well, they found out today that she got rid of a lot of evidence, as you probablynoticed, she got rid of massive amounts of evidence. And in addition to that she hada rifle or a gun because she said she bought gun bullets or rifle bullets, and it wasthe opposite I guess, of her gun. And was it licensed? No, it wasn’t licensed, so Iguess she’s got a difficult problem, that’s going to be her problem, but she has agun or a rifle. She didn’t really explain which, she might have both because shesaid she bought rifle bullets so—and it’s totally unlicensed, so I assume that’s aproblem. But the judge was protecting her, he didn’t want to go there, ‘we don’twant to go there, we don’t want to hear’—if that were me, it would be a differentstory. But, with her, the judge is totally protective of them. And frankly, anybodyin that court would see it, it’s, frankly it’s a disgrace. That’s probably one of thereasons our country is going to hell.
I know it won’t happen, but I’m hoping his base hears that and realizes he’s advocating against the second amendment.
I cancelled my subscription years ago because I subscribed looking for in-depth analysis, and they never seemed to publish an online article more than twelve paragraphs long. But it looks like I made the right decision.
