NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 3)

I love this phrase.

“They want you to wear an Eye Diaper, because then the only thing you can see is the Sun! You won’t see all those dastardly migrants running around committing crimes and trafficking children!”

Biden told you not to stare at the sun, so dammit, we’re going to stare right at the sun to own the libs!

“It’s a liberal Sun, but a MAGA moon! The eclipse is proof we’re gonna win!”

I think someone already made that movie.

Say it’s only a MAGA moon
Sailing over a sea of liberal tears
But it wouldn’t be fake news
If you just voted for me

MAGA moon, you saw me standing alone
Without a hate in my heart
Without a gun of my own
MAGA moon, you knew just what I was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for
Someone I really could go to war for

This is hilarious.

It also shows the power of motivated reasoning: you can hear the Fox News hosts tell you time and time again that there won’t be another total eclipse covering a lot of the USA for two more decades—but at the same time you can think ‘solar power really IS unreliable given that it might go out for three minutes twenty years from now.’

On the other hand, right-wing stupidity truly IS an infinitely-renewable resource.

This pretty much sums it up:

A Hovde campaign spokesman on Tuesday said the candidate’s comments did not imply that elderly people should not vote.

I wonder what this was supposed to imply.

"Well, if you’re in a nursing home, you only have five, six months life expectancy. Almost nobody in a nursing home is in a point to vote…

Maybe that’s the life expectancy in red-state nursing homes.

Republicans HATE when people vote!

I imagine he never knew his paremts, having hatched from some kind of reptilian egg and having to fend for himself thereafter.

So he has little empathy for those of us who do actually care about our parents (and grandparents).

I think it might have something to do with “his promises to cut Social Security and raise the retirement age”.

I’ve said it before: They don’t want to win elections. They want to come to power specifically undemocratically, because they don’t think it counts as power unless it’s forcing things people don’t want on them.

Yeah, Colbert had the same line. Great minds. You know who doesn’t have great minds? Fox News.

If the current trend continues much longer Orwell will join the ranks of the Biblical Prophets*.

He paused, and for a moment assumed again his air of a schoolmaster questioning a promising pupil: ‘How does one man assert his power over another, Winston?’

Winston thought. ‘By making him suffer,’ he said.

‘Exactly. By making him suffer. Obedience is not enough. Unless he is suffering, how can you be sure that he is obeying your will and not his own? Power is in inflicting pain and humiliation. Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in new shapes of your own choosing.’

* Yes, I know that predicting the future wasn’t really the Prophets’ role. I just renewed my poetic license and was itching to use it.

That’s Plank #3 of the 2024 Republican Platform.

A bill under consideration in the Florida Reichstag would mean you can be charged with assaulting a police officer if he has a panic attack near you.

Is there a way to expose a first responder to fentanyl with reasonable care?

In a world where the police were sane? Sure. “Hey, officer, I found this baggie of powder in my buddy’s locker, and I’m worried it might be drugs. Could you have it tested?”

In our world, I’m not sure it’s possible to have any interaction at all with the police with reasonable care.
