NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 3)

From your link:

He remains in the custody of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office as he awaits his next court appearance due to an unrelated pending felony case against him

How is it he gets to be an election worker if he’s already facing felony charges?

Well, you can run for president. It’s only fair…

Newsmax chyron: “PLEASE DON’T SUE US SMARTMATIC”

For the debate, Biden’s going to be “jacked up” on his drug of choice! (Link goes to Yahoo; bolding is mine.)

“Any patient or elderly individual or someone that has dementia, they can find some moments of clarity, right? They can find moments throughout the day that they have energy. I think Trump’s team should not underestimate Joe Biden and his team’s ability to, you know, whether they’re gonna jack him up on Mountain Dew or whatever it is,” he said.

An 81-year-old who drinks Mountain Dew has no fear of death.

I respect that in Biden and am now even more committed to voting for him.

I see a product tie-in? “Dark Brandon” flavor Dew? Perhaps strawberry flavored? Let’s workshop it.

Oh, please. It’s today’s republicans we’re talking about. They’d go for boysenberry instead.

While nothing would delight me more than having the Repubs stranglehold on this state loosened, I’m afraid that sort of thing isn’t considered outrageous in the state that brough you Mike Pence.

… and was the home of the early 20th century resurgence of the Klu Klux Klan.

He’s the result of a breeding program to make a human who is so white he doesn’t have to wear a sheet.

The town of Newburn Alabama will hold its first actual election in 2025. The town council has been appointing the mayor and other members of the local government for the last six decades. In 2020, Patrick Braxton filed to run for mayor and was the only candidate, so he was elected by default – but the town council locked him out of City Hall while they continued with their tradition of appointing their own people.
Braxton filed a lawsuit and won, giving the town of 133 people proper franchise. It is not necessary to mention the part that you have already guessed, about ethnicities in Newburn.

How are the town council chosen?

Hunger Games.

They’re appointed by the mayor - who, up until now, had been a guy who inherited the job from his dad in 2008.

One wouldn’t think feudalism would still be alive and well in the US in the 2020s, but here we are.

I feel like we should send in a team of anthropologists to study this town. Like a remote tribe in the amazon.

I wouldn’t have been surprised if some watery bint had thrown a bunch of scimitars at them from Whitsitt Creek.

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

By which you mean white people.

My Google-fu is failing me because I’m having a spotty internet connection. How is this even possible in the 21st Century? Is there a town charter that allows this to happen without elections?

Yeah, yeah, I get it’s Alabama but for fucks sake how have they and how do they continue to get away with such bullshit?
