That’s weird. I’ve only seen women named Beryl. And only English women.
When I was at a friend’s home for a party, she introduced her husband’s boss & wife as “Graham and Beryl.” I knew they were English without them having to say a word.
I would think men would be a little worried about paying child support for 18 years. Or maybe project 2025 does away with that somewhere in their 900 page plan.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard Beryl as a name, but there’s a long tradition of gemstones as women’s names: Ruby, Pearl… I know there should be a third one on this list…
The first thing I think of for “Beryl” is from the movie Bedazzled. During Stanley’s last wish, he’s at a convent for the Order of the Leaping Berelians. Beryl of Sussex was a sheperdess who was beckoned into the sky by a vision and never came down. He’s called upon to show his courage by jumping on a trampoline, while the other sisters sing for him to “leap in the name of Beryl”.
I had an Aunt Beryl. It’s a very old-fashioned woman’s name, like Florence or Etta.
My guess is that Trump confused it with Burl (as in Burl Ives). There’s also the old Jewish male name of Berl or Berel, although I doubt Trump was familiar with it.
Meanwhile, the hurricane name lists also include “Leslie”, “Patty”, “Rene”, “Teddy”, “Alex”, and retired names include “Carol”, “Frances”, and “Sandy”.
