Yes, good point!
Seriously, it will be horrific. Between the reverence for the Dear Leader and the self-righteousness and the (only-slightly-veiled) calls for political violence, it will be like watching a Nuremberg rally.

I would approve of the republican convention being fully open carry, with every single person fully armed. Would be… interesting.
If the NRA convention won’t do it, and they sometimes don’t, the GOP convention sure won’t.
ETA: The NRA did allow guns except at their Leadership Forum when Trump was present.
source.
Make it ten-cent beer nights too.
Free firecrackers at the door
Why does anything have to be plausibly deniable for today’s GOP? AFAICT, they deny all kinds of things, no matter how implausible their denials are.
Maybe the convention caterers can dmso acid over everything.
ETA: They’ll need gloves. (the caterers)
Does anyone remember the scene in Illuminatus! where the Discordians spike the punch at a Knights of Columbus convention with a drug that simultaneously makes you extremely creative and completely credulous, and within minutes the assembled brothers have renounced Catholicism and embraced geocentrism?
I’m not sure I want to know what something like that would do to 2024 Republicans.
Power really makes some people think they’re hot stuff, huh? And no one’s gonna think otherwise or turn ‘em in? I know Biden has 200 other things going on, but I hope he appoints another judge here soon.

You can skip the dmso: acid in sufficient quantity is itself capable of skin transit (“sufficient” being a pretty small number).
I agree that GOP professionals and spokespeople no longer censor themselves much. They know the Supreme Court, at the very least, has their backs—they can say and do just about anything without consequences.
However, they do still enjoy baiting Democratic politicians as well as (or especially) the media. So they like to keep their calls for violence JUST this side of overt. That way they not only get the fun of denying they called for violence, they get the cash rewards of complaining to their base that they are being unfairly accused of calling for violence. (Even though they ARE calling for violence.)
We’re all wondering if Trump will flirt with “unity” messages this convention, not only himself but from his minions. I expect he’s watching focus groups and flash polls covering that very topic, and will choose accordingly. 'Call for the slaughter of every Democrat, which will thrill the suckers, I mean the Base? Or pretend to be the Uniter and win over some moderate voters? Hmm…’

Nah, still doesn’t matter to them. Some of these folks would say things like “I look forward to brutally murdering all Democrats and watching their warm, red blood seep through my fingers”, and still insist that they’re not calling for violence. What they can deny bears no relationship to plausibility at all.
And, of course, the news media will obligingly print headlines saying “Senator Bloodbath denounces violence; denies claims of calling for violence”.

Sadly, you’re right about that (and about the media playing along).
All these people are aware, however, that not every voter—particularly the contested ‘moderates and independents’—will hear the clip of Senator Bloodbath saying “I look forward to brutally murdering all Democrats, and of course I denounce violence” and then to Jake Tapper saying “Senator Bloodbath denounces violence” … and buy it. So that’s at least a teensy check on some of them.
Only on those in districts that aren’t fully blood-red, of course. Still, that is a few.

C’mon, no sitting US Representative, even if they were from, let’s say, Texas, would say something so ridiculous.
Oops, when he says he wants to ethnically cleanse us white liberals, he’s talking about deporting us to… somewhere. So it’s OK, my apologies. Not violent at all. Just loading us on trains to a convenient gathering point before sending us to our final destination. Really quite benign, when you think about it.
This has been making the rounds on imgur:
And, of course, the news media will obligingly print headlines saying “Senator Bloodbath denounces violence; denies claims of calling for violence”.
High-profile Republicans have immediately blamed Donald Trump’s near-assassination on Democrats calling him a threat to democracy.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said on Sunday that “when the message goes out constantly that the election of Donald Trump would be a threat to democracy and that the republic would end, it heats up the environment.”
Other Republicans were more explicit. Shortly after the shooting at Trump’s Pennsylvania campaign rally on Saturday, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) said on social media that President Joe Biden’s rhetoric “led directly to President Trump’s attempted assassination,” while Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) said in his own social media post, “This was an assassination attempt aided and abetted by the radical Left and corporate media incessantly calling Trump a threat to democracy, fascists, or worse.”
So the Republicans are demanding that Democrats stop saying Trump is a threat to democracy?
To quote Thomas Jefferson’s lines in the musical 1776 --“King George is a tyrant whether or not we say so. We might as well say so.”
Republican rhetoric against Joe Biden, meanwhile, has been no less apocalyptic.
Not to mention thatb Trump has been saying the same thing:
In an email just last week, the Trump campaign used the exact wording Republicans are now decrying in the wake of the assassination attempt: “Biden is a threat to democracy.”

But, Trump was just joking.
Mike Johnson: Joe Biden can’t speak without a teleprompter
Also Mike Johnson: Flees the RNC stage for 40 minutes because the teleprompter went out

It is a solution with a certain finality to it.
