A few thoughts. First, Swift is going to clap back, and clap back hard. Second, speaking of smart business, she will likely sue him in order to protect her name, image, and brand. And third (and I really hope she does this) there is a good chance she might drop a new single later this week that she’s writing and recording right this minute.
She’s a legitimate billionaire (I.e. richer than Trump) and the most commercially successful entertainer in history. If Leroy’s Tavern in New Cousinhump, WV takes Speak Now out of the jukebox, she’ll be fine.
She’s a real person; I saw an article with her name and some quote about how she’s bravely standing up for the bajillions of silent MAGA Swifties, etc. The fact that she gets a couple of photos and the rest are AI suggests just how deep the MAGA Swiftie movement runs.
A quick google of Swifties for Trump found this Newsweek aricle on the founder.
She comes from a right wing activist family and seems to be a long time fan of Swift. There is much claiming of enthusiatic support for the group as you would expect. I have no problem, however, believing that there are plenty of Swift fans that skew right wing. Cognitive dissonance is plentiful everywhere.
There is mention in the article of survey of Trump supporters believing Swift would vote for Trump.
The AI image depicting Swift as part of the movement is way out of line. But I would not assume that Swifties skew left by default. I think the assumption that all these young people must be Liberal is foolish. I have met a few shockingly facsist milenials. I know squat and understand less about Swifties, but I know people enough to accept they can embrace stongly contradictory beliefs.
I don’t know anything about Swifts music. I suppose I should check it out.
When her career really took off, a lot of parents had to take their kids to the concert though. And perhaps they got hooked, and perhaps the parents are MAGAs.
There are right-wing fans that were surprised to learn Rage Against the Machine was raging against the machine. The ability of people to compartmentalize is astounding.
I imagine Swift’s fans run the entire political spectrum simply because there’s so many of them they can’t help but represent a wide range of political/racial/social/religious boundaries. I would hazard a guess that her fans, skewing younger, probably reflect that demographic so they would skew left wing but would also have not insignificant numbers of MAGAs and such.
Yes, it’s likely there are young girls and few guys that lean right but enjoy Swift’s music, which runs on themes of relationships and experiences. She’s a cultural touchstone and a voice of her generation, so she’s going to have fans who have different political views.
Well she did start her career as a country singer. But anyone who thinks she would vote Trump isn’t a fan that actually follows her. She endorsed the Democrat in Tennessee in 2018 and Biden/Harris in 2020, going so far as to say that Trump is racist and an autocrat.
