It wasn’t working at all, and it was starting to make HIM look bad, not her. Like he was too feeble minded to say her name right and/or couldn’t come up with a better moniker.
Cut losses and start over. If his team (not him - he’s too dumb) can manufacture something, maybe we’ll see him try that out in the near future.
Meh. Some people say evangelicals shouldn’t call themselves “Christians” because blah, blah, blah technicality.
No True Scotsman is rarely a good line of reasoning. At some point, a sub-group can become sufficiently large and influential that it is perfectly valid practice to accept their self-identification as representative of a broader group.
The MAGA takeover of conservatism happened years ago. The conservative-conservatives rolled over and/or picked up their toys and went home for the most part. The few who are speaking up are not in positions of any real power, either having left or been kicked out.

Makes me wonder if it’s actual delusion from living in an alternative-reality bubble or if it’s just SOP from the Cohn/Trump playbook: deflect, deny, never admit fault, accuse the accuser.
The other conservatives DID go along with the MAGA takeover. Sure, there’s a remaining vocal minority decrying the current situation but they are decidedly a minority and have even less power.
The rest are either fine with it or have decided to stay quiet. Well, that’s on them. They decided MAGA as the conservative standard bearer was no dealbreaker. I’m sure if things change, they’ll be among the first to stick a knife in the corpse, just like the opportunists they’ve shown themselves to be, but in the meantime, they get to wear the label they’ve chosen for themselves.
I’m not buying it. There are more of us (with respect for the language) than there are of those craven assholes. I know that calls to action on the SDMB are not allowed, so I’ll take my stand elsewhere. Y’all are welcome to join me, if you want.
(I’m still going to call that crap out on the board periodically. Just don’t call me a one-trick pony. Do we still use “one-trick pony” here?)
But something to think about - if you were to take a poll of all the self-described conservatives in the US, do you think they would, as a whole, put the current MAGA trend in the “conservative” column or the “radical” column?
Note this is a good way for other distinctions people like to make (“Are Mormons Christians?” “Are Evangelicals actually Christians?” “Are Liberals Real Americans?”)
If that’s the case, why is the remaining minority making the decisions? I’ve often said that while I understand republicans will vote republican, I wish they would pick better republicans to vote for. If there’s more of you than them, you should be able to find better candidates.
