Par for the course.
The Malaysian fascist who has never set foot in the US but spends all his free time pandering to idiots who would probably hate him if they knew that is being weird again.
Is the caption “Ian Cheong dreaming he’s AOC. Again.”?
Tim Scott Suggests Slavery Wasn’t as Bad as Welfare for Black Americans
During the debate Scott argued that welfare assistance was harder than slavery for Black Americans.
“Black families survived slavery!” he exclaimed. “We survived poll taxes and literacy tests.”
“We survived discrimination being woven into the laws of our country,” he added, in a line that for a moment sounded like he might actually be acknowledging systemic racism.
“What was hard to survive was Johnson’s Great Society, where they decided to put money—where they decided to take the Black father out of the household to get a check in the mail.”
One of the commenters on that article referred to Scott as Clayton Bigsby in the flesh.
Nah. Clayton Bigsby had the advantage of not knowing he was black.
Scott is more of an Uncle Ruckus.
“Black families survived slavery!”
Well, some of them did. And not always as families.
Agree completely on both points.
Well, yeah, but at least they learnt useful skills. /s
“Surviving” is a useful skill, to be sure. Those that didn’t learn it weren’t able to pass those skills on.
Who is this they Tim? Attaching onerous conditions to charity is holy writ to both your ideology and political party.
I would love to know what in the hell he is talking about. How can he say this with a straight face?
Because he really truly believes it, that’s how. It’s an article of faith in his tribe.
It seems pretty clear to me. Per official Reactionary Wacko Traitor canon:
All the Great Society welfare programs directly caused the breakup of the black nuclear family.
Because once Momma could get money to live on without putting up with baby Daddy, she promptly tossed his worthless ass out on the street so she could qualify for that sweet, sweet generous check from Uncle Sam. Well actually from hard working American white people via Uncle Sam.
And because these programs did not pay for baby Daddies to just sit round, and they are useless as laborers, they immediately all became criminals. Everything bad about current US (black) society is a direct result of “welfare”.
It’s pure racist garbage of course. But they lurves them some racist garbage, the purer the better.
If you’re a Federal worker, a government shutdown is one of the sacrifices you occasionally have to make in an otherwise gravy job. So says Roger Marshall, junior Senator from my red state of Kansas.
“I think when you take a job with the federal government, you realize that there’s pros and cons and this is one of the cons of it, that every five or 10 years, there’s a government shutdown,” Marshall said. “They have incredible pay, they have easy hours, only a fourth of them are actually back working in the office right now. So we all have to, you know, sacrifice.”
Yeah, his federal job is so onerous and don’t you admire the sacrifice he’s making regarding his federal pay?
It goes back to Reagan’s bullshit “Welfare Queen” trope in 1976, and probably before that. Tim Scott was 11 years old then, and has been steeping in this garbage ever since.
I just emailed his office and told him that he should not accept a paycheck during the shutdown. I also told him that he should go to Fort Riley and personally tell the troops there that missing a paycheck is what they signed up for.
I’m not expecting a response.
There is a possibly apocryphal story that back in the bootlegging gangster days when military payroll was paid in cash greenbacks every week, some gangster guys got the bright idea of hijacking the military pay armored car. On base. A USMC base.
To say they were shown the error of their ways was an understatement. Each was buried in a small pail; there wasn’t much more identfiable as ever having been human, much less part of a particular human.
Senator Marshall may enjoy a little historical re-enactment. So-called “conservatives” supposedly prefer the old ways of the old days.
I just sent Andy Ogles the same sort of note. I’m not holding my breath.
“…but you did sign up for getting shot at!” >pulls out AR-15<
You know it would get him votes.
It’s all of a piece with “When my family was on welfare, the government didn’t do a thing to help us!”.
