I’m not sure. While she obviously isn’t trying to signal that she has committed adultery. The letter is used these days as a shorthand for general ostracism, and she is getting a lot of flack from her party for having voted with the Dems to get rid of McCarthy. So while comparing herself to Hester Prynne is over-dramatic bullshit, it’s not off base literature-wise.
I haven’t read it, but if Spark Notes is correct the parallel she wants to draw seems reasonable:

I can not even imagine having this kind of attack happen in my neighborhood. The reports are just horrifying. It’s hard for me to wrap my mind around what these terrible people did. What people are capable of just takes my breath away.
