Interesting that now they want kids to be taught over the internet. Just a few years ago, everyone lost their god damn mind when that was happening during covid lockdowns.
I’m honestly surprised Trump hasn’t declared that school is no longer mandatory. He could talk about the massively reduced financial burden, millions of teens finally able to enter the workforce, get rid of all the empty schools*, make it the parent’s choice if their kids go to school or not (like vaccines) etc. I assume something like that would be a state level decision, but that’s never stopped him before.
*I have no idea if it’s true, but I heard one of the reasons Trump is trying to get out of leases or sell properties that are un/underused is so that if and when all these gutted departments start getting restaffed, there’s nowhere for them to go, which will cause even more delays.

Just sneaking in a final word on the Watters/soup thing - nice bluster coming from someone who was whining on-air recently about how funding cuts to where his sister works will make his mom upset at Trump and start hounding Jesse with texts and make some upcoming weekend a pain for the whole family.
I don’t know why anyone would take advice from a man who cheated on his pregnant wife with a coworker 14 years younger than him, and began dating this woman when he let the air out of her tires so she would ask for a ride.

I have heard of a concept where we change the current mode of lecture at school followed by reviewing at home.
The new idea would be lecture at home via video as performed by a person backed by a lot of resources to ensure a high quality of lecture material. Then material review, workbooks, etc are done in the classroom where the local teacher can focus on correction and engaging directly with the students to ensure the material is understood.
I don’t think it’s as aggressively stupid as many other conservative ideas, at least not on the surface. Deep down I imagine the implementation would be to cut teacher workforce in half because “someone else is doing the important work”.

That can’t be right. Haven’t Republicans been saying for years that the Department of Education should be abolished because it was wrong to have one, central authority determining the curriculum for students all over the country, and that it should be discussed and decided at the local level? I’m curious how they intend to teach millions of students at a time in a way that meets the needs and wants of individual communities.
