I don’t have a link for this, because it’s a personal anecdote about local events that isn’t likely to get news coverage.
Five days a week, I take the bus to work and back. I have to take two buses - a 5-minute ride from my house to the downtown transit center, and a 35-minute ride from there to work. Earlier this month, the city revamped most of the bus routes and replaced the route I used to take to work with an express route that gets me there about 10 minutes faster, which is nice, but it means that instead of boarding that bus at the transit center I have to walk about a block and a half south into the heart of downtown, where the express route stops.
Lately, there’s been some white supremacist chud hanging out on the corner near that stop most afternoons holding a cardboard sign that reads “THE HOLOCAUST IS A LIE”. He’s a public nuisance, but he’s got freedom of speech and he’s not breaking any laws. That’s the SRI.
The remedy the community has come up with, however, is that at a group of about 5-or-6 downtown residents have banded together to watch for him showing up downtown, then follow him around and yell at him and harass him. They’ve had signs of their own with an arrow pointing at him saying things like “INCEL”, “I’M WITH UNHIREABLE”, and “LIVES WITH MOMMY”. Today one of the counter-protestors had a megaphone and was doxxing him to passers-by, reading off his full address and spelling his name, talking about his social media hate-posting, and giving details of his criminal record for petty vandalism in Arizona 10 years ago. They’ve pretty much made it their mission to give him absolutely no peace every time he comes into town (he doesn’t live IN Olympia, of course) and have clearly done their homework on the guy.
It’s amusing as hell to see how dedicated some people are to doing everything they can to make Nazis miserable.

For what it’s worth, I mentioned it to our instrumental music teacher, and he’s interested. Too late to get it in a concert this semester, of course, but maybe in the fall.
I think every school that chooses to play this song, if it gains any media attention, should dedicate their performance to the Watertown band, or at least find some way to name drop them. Make sure that every time a band plays the song, there’s a news report that ends with the line “Watertown school board members were contacted for an interview but did not respond”.
Keep the heat on them until they step down.

The White male fear of Black sexuality isn’t new,
and that bit of cultural history is making a call-back that goes back centuries.
I know it is an irrational fear, but seriously, fellow white guys? The reasons vary wildly but include insecurity, incel thoughts, nervousness, insufficient socializing with actual woman… the list goes on.
Black guys are also nervous. They also have fears. They also get embarrassed by rejection. They are not one huge single category of people who want to “steal our women”; as if “our women” was ever an acceptable term.
It is so weird. I grew up in a multicultural society (Zimbabwe), and live in a multicultural society (South Africa). I have dated both Black and White girls with different levels of success, but none correlating with skin colour.
Some section of White Americans seem so stuck into the US equivalent of apartheid. So weird.
I think that society is sufficiently complicated that, in order to understand any part of it, you have to first understand all other parts. Racism is driven by fears of black sexuality, and fear of black sexuality is driven by racism, and both are driven by socioeconomic factors (that are also driven by both of those things), and gender relations also drive into and are driven into by those things, and so on.
Just when you thought RFK couldn’t possibly do any more weird serial killer shit with animals, he takes up snake-handling.
Kennedy posted the video to his X account Monday morning with a casual caption: “Cheryl cheerleads the removal of a pair of Black Racers from Dr. Oz’s patio.”
The clip shows Kennedy picking up the two snakes — which appear to be in the middle of mating — and walking around with them as they bite him repeatedly. Hines can be heard begging her husband to let them go.
“Moccasins. Those are dangerous!” Hines shouts in the video.
“No, they’re not moccasins,” Kennedy calmly replies — correctly, as Black Racers are non-venomous — even as the snakes clamp down on him.
“Are they biting?” Oz asks.
“Yeah,” Kennedy says.
The exchange only escalates from there.
“Jesus, their mouths are huge,” Kennedy remarks as Hines dissolves into panic.
“Bobby! Bobby! Please!” she cries.
He’s off his rocker, but nobody on the right much cares because he’s against vaccines and they are against vaccines. Meanwhile, I never could have dreamed I would see something like this in my lifetime - a madman in charge of the health decisions of the United States.
As a former snake-owner (and handler), I now that having even non-venomous snakes bite you is Not A Good Idea. Snakes are known to carry Salmonella bacteria, and it’s in their digestive system. Even if you’re just handling snakes without bites it’s a good idea to wash your hands thoroughly afterwards. But having them bite you is a virtual invitation to infection.
