He (trump) didn’t need political help getting elected. He wanted a nobody who wouldn’t be a threat to upstage him. He picked well.
My bet is that Vance’s loud “I’ll never run for pres” was him just reflexively avoiding an opportunity to upstage his boss. Good little toady that he is.
Then his handlers, whose careers depend on Vance’s continued political relevance, caught wind and reversed the streams. For their benefit, not his.
