NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 4)

Don’t forget they arranged several decades ago to have a foreign born half-white/half-black man get smuggled into the country as an infant so they could set him up to win the Presidency years later but left enough clues for internet randos to figure it out

The randos are just that good – ask them.

It’s a system. They sent out talking points in advance, and right-wing posters and podcasters duly spouted them (about how Schmitt “owned” Smith, etc.)

As that “Charlie Kirk Show” clip (upthread) shows, the reality—what actually happened—mattered not a whit. The talking heads just went on about how Schmitt had triumphed and should be given flowers.

Their system (of blatant lying) does work for their base. But sadly for them, their base is shrinking. If 20% of Americans genuinely believe that Schmitt executed a successful Gotcha on Smith, it’s largely irrelevant, because those people are going to vote for the MAGA candidates no matter what.

eta: maybe this isn’t the thread with that Charlie Kirk Show clip; here’s another way to get to it:

North Carolina campaign commercial: “vote for me, my mother shot someone!”

Schmitt wanted to be the next famous Republican politician and wanted everyone to know his name. And he succeeded, but in the way Dan Quayle did.

Interesting ad.

She’s running for NC-11, the far western part of the state, basically a sea of red with a small dot of blue for Asheville. Formerly the district of Madison Cawthorn (who won it by over 10 points) and Mark Meadows (over 20).

And yet the word “Republican” doesn’t make an appearance, visual or auditory, in the commercial.

Before the 2026 NC redistricting, the district was R+8 per the Cook Partisan Voter Index. Afterwards, they rated it as R+5. If Balkcom loses by a percentage point or two, she has only Donald Trump to thank.

The joke I just saw:

Imagine being the dumbest Senator in a state where the other one is Josh Hawley.

Meh, probably a couple contenders for that belt. Tuberville / Britt (Alabama) come to mind.

That is a hilarious SNL skit!

Wait, it’s real?

Tennessee senator Marsha Blackburn is suing Jack Smith accusing him of mocking President Donald Trump’s complexion in a codename chosen for his investigation.

Actually, it’s really about her phone records but that wouldn’t get as much attention for someone running for governor. She is definitely still kissing Trump’s ass hard. Of course, she can afford to do that in Tennessee.

GOP senator’s lawsuit accuses Jack Smith of mocking ‘Trump’s complexion’ - Raw Story

Ms Blackburn might be well advised to get some flunky to google the colour known as “Arctic Frost”.

There are numerous results, but I chose just one to illustrate the entire lack of orange in the range of similar colours.

(I thought the website “Kids Pattern” might simplify things, the hex code #B0C3D4 is distinctly ice-blue)

ETA: my gloating is somewhat sabotaged because the SD theme I use renders the link’s text… in orange. Curses!

Yes, when I think of Arctic Frost I definitely assume it’s going to be “dark orange”.

God, these people are fucking stupid.

As the saying goes, don’t eat the orange frost!

The problem is that they are the type to name an investigation to insult the target, so they assume that everyone else does the same thing. (And BTW, the article from Raw Story pointed out that the name Arctic Frost was chose by the FBI before Jack Smith was appointed.)

Sure, that’s also true, but really they seem to think their intended audience is abysmally stupid. And I hate to admit it, but they’re not wrong.

Worse, they are busy at work to keep it that way. Paraphrasing Dean Wormer: racist, Republican, and stupid (perhaps triply redundant there) is no way to go through life.

Lavrenti Beria was one of the evilest monsters coughed up by the 20th century, and that’s saying a lot. This is now their role model?

My question is how Senator Blackburn is claiming standing in her lawsuit.

Let’s say, for the sake of argument, that Jack Smith’s choosing Arctic Frost as a codename was an intentional insult to Donald Trump and harmed his reputation. What is Blackburn’s argument that it harmed her?

And, while I guessing it’s also safe to assume many of these investigations/lawsuits are done knowing they won’t go anywhere, but it gets them (and the subject of their investigation) into the media for a few weeks.

Also, much like proving that Smith was in Seattle doesn’t mean he was with Willis, even if Smith had come up with the name Artic Frost, it doesn’t mean he did it for the purpose of making fun of Trump’s complexion. Seems like a Streisand Effect moment for them. I’m guessing the overwhelming majority of people had never heard of Arctic Orange but now we all have and we all get to make fun of them for it.

Does this investigation actually use the word ‘complexion’? I ask because there’s a difference between someone’s complexion and the color they choose to make their face appear by applying makeup to it.

And, now that I’m thinking about it, I wonder what Schmitt planned to do if Smith said that yes, he was in Seattle at a Hawks game that night. I’m guessing there was no plan.
